hi
i have a transit 2500 n/a diesel with the ratchet pawl adjuster on the clutch pedal
the pedal keeps going to the floor then ratchets back up then later it will go to the floor again, the teeth on the ratchet are ok but i heard that i can put the manual cable on and get rid of the ratchet system
any ideas which year the cable would be from and would i need the pedal as well and is it an easy job to swap
thanks in advance Read more
I have recently solved this problem with my car radio by getting a cable from the UK agents of it`s manufacturer. AFAIK,your radio needsto have an auxillary socket at the rear. This is normaly used to run a CD changer. If it does not have this Aux facility then it`s much more difficult.
Try going to the ICE section of the Toyota Forum for advice,or try e-bay where they have dozens of this type of connectors. My cable cost £8 and works well. Read more

A safe place to turn off the blue lights ! It's a switch on the dash for crying out loud. It doesn't need to hands or the concentration of a brain surgeon. What a great example of one law for us and one law for them.
So you and I can have many years of accident free driving but we aren't really experienced because we don't drive for the Police.

Definitely bringing South Wales Police into disrepute . . .
Why did he need to take so much care slowing down - was there a queue of motorists tailgating him at over 100mph ! ! ! !
Should have been nothing on the road doing anything near his speed so quite safe to slift off and slow dramatically.
Now with the reduced conviction is he going to be allowed to step back into his original job - should not be.
The car is now undergoing a head gasket repair, but for several months it has been losing or using oil at a rate of 3-4 litres a months, for a relatively low usage.
It used to smoke on start-up,but this clear quickly and I took it to be valve-guide oil seals.
There are no obvious leaks and the exhaust gases are clear when driving along, but for that amount of oil osage one would expect the engine to be plastered or a real smoke screen coming out of the exhaust.
I have difficulty in believing that the initial stages of head gasket failure could lead to such catastrophic oil loss without leaving an obvious trace.
When I changed the oil shortly after purchasing the car a few months ago,I noticed that the old filter was squashed down on one side,as if it had not seated properly. The new one appeared to fit well, but I have not checked it since, but have wondered if there is a pressure release which operates in the filter housing which could vent out oil when running along? Is there a crankcase breather? Is there a crankcase pressure release?
Any suggestions would be welcome. The car has only done 81k. Thanks. Read more
Hi,
I have noticed recently a strange noise when i put my foot to the floor at low revs, which I can only describe like a blowing exhaust but it does only do it at low revs and not all the time.
To try and give an example, if I am going up a slight hill at 30mph in 3rd and then my speed slows a little and the revs drop and i then put my foot to the floor to pick it up again, a loud noise (like a blowing exhaust) is made until I reach enough speed and about 2500 revs/min when the noise disappears again. With my foot to the floor above approx 2500 revs it sounds okay.
Any ideas please?
Thanks as always. Read more
hi did you solve the problem my 1.6 16v did this today and when i turned it off it now wont start
Hi All this is my first post, hope someone can help me!
Sorry about the essay but i want to give as much info as i can
I am having a bit of a nightmare with my 07 focus 1.6 TDCI, I bought it mid December 08 with 22K on the odometer, 2 weeks after i bought it i was travelling on the motorway at approx 70 mph, the fuel gauge read about 1/8th of a tank of diesel left (midway between empty and a quarter) and the engine just stops responding no lights come on the dash and i lose all power.
Called the RAC and they said that there was no diesel in the fuel filter indicating it had run out of fuel! he manully primed the fuel line and sure enough some diesel came through. He then put some more diesel in the tank and used some carb start on the air intake and got it started.
This has now happened on 5 or 6 occasions all with the fuel gauge showing different levels(but all under 1/4 of a tank) i have had it towed directly to ford(where i bought it from) a couple of times and a couple of weeks ago they replaced the fuel pump, its had a service so all the filters have been changed. Unfortunately the problem still perstists.
It happened again on friday, travelling at 70 mph guage showing enough fuel in the tank, trip computer showing 80 miles left (i know this is not totally accurate) and the same thing happened lost all power and could not start it again.
HAd it towed to ford again and it was left there until the morning where on investigation they told me that it had run out of Fuel.
Apparently when they turned on the ignition the guage was under the red line and trip computer said 0 miles they give it some diesel and bled the fuel line and it strated no problem. Ford then give me a ring saying that it stopped because i run out of fuel!!!!
I said that according to the guage there was fuel in there when i was driving it not even the red light had come on. but they were adament there was nothing wrong with the guage as they had done all the tests!!
Does anyone have any idea what could be causing this???
additionally how am i placed to demand my money back as i was sold the car with this problem from the same ford dealership.
Thanks in advance
chris

Hi folks,
The power steering has just packed up on my '91 MX-5 1.6 (UK car).
There was a bit of a whining noise coming from beneath the bonnet intermittently for around a week beforehand but that seems to have stopped now.
I haven't had a chance to have a proper look at it yet ? I'm assuming that either the pump has had it or there's a leak/lack of fluid (haven't noticed any damp spots on the drive).
It's not the end of the world ? but if anyone has experienced this before or knows of an obvious fix then I'd be keen to hear.
Many thanks.
Jack

'Families along the stretch of road in Leicester paid the council to build the driveways leading from their houses to the road nearly 30 years ago.'
'A spokesman for Leicester City Council said the driveway was counted as a public highway.'
Did they tell the residents that when they were shelling out for the drive ways ?
You need to look at the picture to see what it is they paid for . Seeing as long as no car encroached on the bit of footpath in front of their home, what are the council counting as public highway... the strip of grass that runs across the front of their houses ?. If that is the case, I'd be tempted to drive a vehicle up and down that bit of so called highway. Bet the council would have something to say about that as well. The whole exercise smacks of pure out and out money making. Read more
Phil, I congratulate you. Truly an excellent village.
It even has a railway station (that's train station for anyone below a certain age)
With East Midlands Airport not too far away.
Hi,
The dealer says that the SAAb 9-5 HOT will run on 'ordinary' unleaded but the car manual says its requires 98 RON which super unleaded. Obviously I will play safe and go with the book, but is there scope for running 95 RON?
Regards.

I'd recommen the use of the 98 octane fuel anyway particularly BP Ultimate/ shell Optimax. Better power and more economy plus you are getting the benefit of the additive package not found in the supermarket stuff

Many many thanks
