hey im new to this sort of stuff i have a passat estate 1.9tdi when i set off in the car it drives fine to 2000 revs then all of a suddern there is a wooshing noise when it hits the turbo im no machanic iv cleand the egr valve and tried to find a hole or split in a pipe for the turbo to vacume pump to the egr valve any pipe i culd see can anyone shed any light is my turbo on its way out? thank u .

Did you check all the intercooler hose joints? A very common failure is the "elbow" hose from the top of the intercooler to the inlet pipe that runs round the engine. This can go soft and collapse under boost pressure.

The other thing is the intercooler itself can develop a split / hole.

the big intercooler hoses will have oily stuff in them, that's normal.

If you've had the hoses off you might need new spring clips to hold them properly. Let us know how you get on.

hey iv had the intercooler pipes off again they seemd to be ok and the clips seem to be holding the pipes fine think it may be a while before i check the intercooler its self thats a front of car off job lol thanks alot ill just keep going by prosess of elimination

hey mate you were right it was the bottom intercooler pipe the s bend one near the turbo it was split thanks for your help with out it i would have struggled ! thanks again

Glad you sorted it, pity it was the pipe from turbo to intercooler, it's harder to get at :-/

yeah your telling me lol 75 pound plus vat as well lol for a bit of rubber but the main thing is its done
