Had an fun time renewing my insurance.

Got tints done for my daughters as the dealer said i shouldn't put sun blinds on as it would cause injury if the side airbags deployed. I declared these last year.

My renewal came through, good price but found it a bit cheaper on the suppliers site so gave them a ring to switch it.

Had the usual conversation and even though they asked if anything changed since last year i reminded them of my tints. That added £110 even though i told him my renewal included the declared tints. Was pretty shocked and couldn't understand it so i had a think.

Thought well i need the insurance and just phoned back to put it through. Spoke to a different department, had the same conversation, didn't want to chance it so again reminded them on the tints. Explained what the dealer said and they were for my daughters. They asked for the level of tint. I said i didnt know but they were defiantly NOT blacked out as you can still see in and they were under £250. They said no problem and honored the cheaper internet price.

Sure enough docs arrived and stated my rear and rear side tints up to £250.

Still i'm a bit concerned, would there be premium increases for different level of tints. Would i need to find out my level and let them know or do you think they wanted to charged me £110 because they thought i mean't i blacked it out 100% - which they aren't?

>>I doubt that privacy glass keeps a car cool anyway<<

Well, as someone who had it retro-fitted, I can tell you it does. I dont know why this is so, perhaps because it blocks alot more light in one direction than another.

Hello

I have recently purchased a 53 reg Citroen C8 and last week on the computer readout I was alarmed to read, "diesel additive minimum level".
My local Citroen Dealer in Sunderland has advised this will cost in the region of £300.
Can anyone please advise if I can have this work done elsewhere and cheaper?

Thankyou

One of the rear shockers on my son's Ford Ka seems to be leaking, and it's MOT time this month.
I presume this is a failure? and, do these have to be replaced as a rear pair or just the leaking one?

thanks

Not forgetting the occasion when they said it needed two new rear shocks.
OK then go ahead.
Right Sir all done that will be £120.
Oh no it won't they are still under warranty when you changed them three months
ago (when they were truly shot).

That exact same thing happened to my brother in law on his old mk3 Cavalier. He answered in much the same way. :-)

My C3 has an intermittent problem that is proving incredibly difficult to diagnose. I have taken it to a Citroen dealer and after two days there and a bill for over £100 they were unable to work out what was wrong.

The car has two issues which I am unsure as to whether they are related:

1. On mild to heavy acceleration the car jolts, with revs temporarily dropping for a second (almost as if the car is stalling) and then recovering. This problem was occurring quite regularly, however now it appears to be less frequent - occurring maybe as little as once a week now. It tended to occur on shorter journeys of up to about half an hour, whilst the car was warming to full running temperature.

2. On a couple of occasions I have been travelling on a dual-carriageway when the car has suddenly lost power to the extent that it slows to a halt. There is no response from the engine when the accelerator is depressed, however if I turn off the ignition leave it 30 seconds and restart the problem has disappeared.

I have not had an engine warning light come on on the dashboard at any point.

As mentioned I took it to a Citroen garage and they found some faults logged as follows:
Camshaft signal Loss of Synchronisation
Turbo pressure signal incoherence when stationary
Brake switch signal incorrect value recieved
Diesel high pressure regulation circuit maximum rail pressure exceeded

Whilst test-driving the car with the diagnostic equipment running there were no errors reported when the intermittent problem was experienced. Can anyone help, as I am loathe to let them do further 'testing' at £54 an hour!? Read more

I had a similar problem on a Berlingo 1.4 petrol 2001. Fluctuating revs and cutting out during warm-up and at idle speeds. And intermittent power choking during running, particularly mid-range on accelerating after cruising, such as through a speed limit area. It felt like a problem with fuel delivery or fuel/air mixture.

I checked the vacuum hosing and air filter, and changed the fuel filter: no difference....

How many hours most modern cars can be driven continuously before engine gets overheated?

Planning some long trips with friends. Not decided yet in which cars we'd travel but it will be interesting to know how long we can drive at a stretch [by rotating drivers of course].

Between petrol & diesel, which is more suitable for longer runs [not fuel wise]?

Hi,

Thinking about buying a Golf and just have some doubts regarding the engine. In the past I've had the 1.8 and 2.0 engines. I know the 1.4 is turbocharged but I just can't quite get my head round the fact that it's still a 1.4 engine. Hope you understand what I mean here.

Is the technology of this engine proven? and if I decide to go for this engine would you recommend it or not for any reason. I'm just a bit concerened about its longevity really.

Be very interested in people's thoughts.

TIA

Neil.

I've just been told by my local Skoda dealer that they've stopped producing the Octavia
1.4tsi - she had no idea why though. Worrying as thats what i've been looking
at.

Someone on the Briskoda forum posted a missive from Skoda a couple of weeks ago saying the 1.4TSI is still in short supply and Octavia 1.4TSIs are being rationed until September. Skoda are reviving the 1.6 MPI engine and making the 1.8TSI available on a wider range of trim levels as alternatives.

When I had the windscreen replaced on my Focus, the fitter admired the way I'd fitted self-tappers through the 'blanks'. He used a mastic gun to effect a seal.

Hi

I'm considering buying a nearly new SAAB 9-5 with the 1.9 Diesel engine. I've heard a few stories - perhaps apocryphal - about water pumps and engines being wrecked. Does anyone have any first-hand experience of this happening? I've read that the engine performs well. How about the 2.3T petrol engines?

Thanks in advance

J James

Thank you for all your replies. I think I'll give the diesel a miss. The only problem with the 2.3 T petrol is the road tax which is in the £400 band. (That's the auto - can't seem to find a reasonably priced manual)

Am going on holiday on saturday in my 5 week old Cee'd 1.4 which still hasn't got a thousand miles under it's belt. As we will be covering a lot of miles I thought it would be a good idea to pick up a bottle of oil to top it up in case it needed it as it is obviously not fully "run" in.
The handbook wasn't very helpful as to what grade/spec of oil to use, so i phoned the supplying dealer who told me it needed a 5W40 fully synthetic, however they did not exactly inspire confidence in the way they were speaking to me, so i rang another dealer who said it used 10W40 fully synthetic. This surprised me as i thought that was a bit thick for a modern VVT 16V engine, so i rang Kia customer services, they have told me to use 10W40 SEMI synthetic.
Thats 3 different answers to the same question, so i am still not really sure what to buy ! Read more

That'll do for me.

It would do for me too, good quality oil, and so close to spec it makes no difference! After it has been chopped up by the engine it will all be 2.5W-20 anyway.
