Our son bought a 2007 car with our help. Mileage was low and it was around £6000 . I asked if it had been in any accidents and was told that the Polish guy`s wife had knocked the bumper.
I nagged the boy to make sure it was seviced by the main dealer to keep the guarantee valid.
He takes it in and learns that it needs a gaiter and maybe a gearbox ! No problem, to get those done under the guarantee was worth the £300 he paid for the manufacturer`s service.
He waits for the garage to contact him. Yesterday he contacts them! They tell him that they think the car was a write off. He rings them today and yes it was.
When we bought the car there was no mention of it having been a write off...we wouldn`t have taken it for the manufacturer`s service ..and would certainly have haggled over the price and wanted to know waht had happened to the car during the accident.
Any ideas where we stand legally?
Left with a bill for £300
A gearbox and gaiter needed
A cat d car when he comes to sell it.

When my dealer did some "warranty" work on my old Fabia I never got a bill to prove it, it was just done... unless Citroen dealers are different?
Re the work on SS's car, sounds like they looked at the problem, wondered why there was a problem and dug a bit deeper... and found the accident damage?
We picked up a parking PCN a few weeks ago and I immediately wrote a nice long letter back to the company concerned stating numerous reasons why they should cancel the PCN. I also pointed out that I would like a reply within 10 days to ensure that, should I be unsuccesful, I can still pay the reduced charge within 14 days. So two weeks have now passed and not a hint of a reply and not even a phonecall, considering they have both work and home numbers. Now I won't mention names here but lets just say that this is not a small local firm we're talking about. So by appealing I've now lost out on the right to a reduced penalty simply because the company concerned cannot be bothered to reply. The letter was also sent by recorded delivery to the appeals address which, strangely enough, was not on the post office computer system. Par for the course or have I just been unlucky here ? DVD, as usual, is spot-on.
There have been numerous posts on this topic and a forum search should bring these up, should anyone be interested.
The essential point to grasp is the difference between a Local Authority issuing a Penalty Charge Notice, by which an alleged parking infringement has attracted a legally enforceable fine and a Parking Charge Notice, by which a private company is attempting to get you to believe the same.
My advice would be to keep all correspondence, but make no further response. The worst that can happen is that you are subject to a further claim for an unpaid parking fee (and there could be various ways of disputing this, should it come to it), but there is little, if any, precedent in private parking companies taking individuals to court over such matters.
I was called upon to change a dipped beam bulb in the in-laws 05 plate V50 2.0d at the weekend.
A first glance showed a typical modern, cramped underbonnet layout, with access to the back of the light unit requiring a triple jointed wrist, and then there being no room to remove the back cover of the headlight due to the proximity of the fusebox and a section of wiring loom with no slack whatsoever.
Then I spotted the metal pin. Jiggle it free and pull it upwards. Slide the complete headlamp unit forwards by 6", pop cover off, change bulb and refit cover with all the room in the world, slide headlamp back, slide pin back. Job done. 2 minutes.
What a fabulous piece of design. What are the other manufacturers' excuses for not doing this?
Cheers

Facelift S60 is actually not too bad. I did both headlights on ours in 25 mins.
Important to remember that you have to locate the bulb and THEN plug it in. Plug it in first and it won't fit.
That was the first 10 minutes of the 25. :-(
Hi all,
After keeping my eyes upon auto trader i see a lot of Focus's that have between 90,000 and 100,000 miles on the clock but with a full ford service history and other cars that have less miles (typically 60 to 70k) but with only a part service history in my price range...which would be the better one (as long as the FSH is genuine)? also does the 2.0l petrol have a DMF??
thanks

Not much help to you but I had a 51 plate 307 Hdi as a courtesy car yesterday, similar model to the one I had in for servicing. Really there was no way of detecting the mileage from condition except the shockers seemed a bit clunky and ineffective and although the aircon worked well, it made a bit of a racket if switched on with the engine idling. The interior trim (carpet) was a bit loose in places. That was it, with 123K recorded. I only drove it 80 miles but it pulled and ran well.

A friend recently replaced a leaking rocker gasket on his 170,000 mile Vectra 1.8.
With the cam cover removed, he was horrified to find 2 of the camshaft bolts had completely unwound, only halted by the top of the cover.
I am not one sure wether this engine has a cambelt or chain. My indie has checked up and says chain but the VW dealership says belt....anyone know for sure. VW Polo 1.2 '06 3 cylinder. Read more
Make sure you don't go anywhere near the dealer.

Hello,
I got this problem with Mazda, having wrote letters and having conversations on the telephone i am now at the situation where i am stuck in a corner.
I purchased a brand new Mazda 6 SL 2008, I've had it for around 9 months now. About a month ago i noticed my rear left hand side valve had snapped (cant remember how, so i gathered it was from a small allow damage) but then the front one has started to snap, but not fully yet.
Mazda customer services first told me that the reason for the damage was because the alloy wheels was scraped & it definetely wont be covered under warranty, so i told them what about the front valve, there are no signs of alloy damage. They still come to say this is my fault.
What i cant understand, they are saying there is no manufactuer defect on this as you can break it your self anytime?? I've gone through a lot of cars over the years and none of them have ever had this problem & the damage i've done on some alloys have been really bad. The only thing i can think of what could have caused the damage is when i pump the tyres up? but if this is the case the valves are not strong at all and basically snap like a stick.
The valves are £80 + VAT then + Labour = A lot.
I am just wondering if anyone can give me any advice on what i should do? because the tyre warning light is on & it will come to the stage where i cant drive it.
Mazda Customer service case manager was extremely rude & didnt care, i asked if i can speak to someone else in the warranty department but..... quote: "I am the manager here, so all problems come to me, so no"
Please help me out here i would appreciate it loads. & Apologies if any of this is confusing, im trying to juggle paperwork in the office & concentrate on this. :)
Thank You All :)

Cheers all. Having never ever owned a diesel the 'term' was unfamiliar to me.

i have brought a new linksys wrt610n router (it has no adsl built in). I have an old Draytek 2800G wireless router which has adsl access.
I want to use the Draytek as a modem only and then feed this via ethernet to the new linksys which il use for wireless.
Ive looked on the web and tried to use the linksys manual which is rubbish to say the least.
A quick solution would be very helpful!
thanks in advance Read more
The problem was caused by a combination of a virus (trojan-pws-daonol) and the way my antivirus handled it. >>
Er, no, others don't think so. IMO, there was no trojan. It seems to be a false positive caused by Webroot. see:

Maybe time to save yourself some dosh, get rid of Webroot and use free Avast instead.

Year of manufacture = 19
Don't think so. Post the proper year and I or one of the other moderators will edit it in for you.
