Just to say that we have had a few issues with the HJ server this evening - sorry about that. Basically the internal ethernet locked up and needed a hard restart. The support guys unfortunately just pulled the plug on it which it doesn't really like without closing databases gracefully. So the delay has been in repairing and re-syncing to the backup servers.

Hi
Have recently had problems with my MG ZS (diesel) in that the battery had been running down due to incorrectly connected accessories, fixed by an auto electrician. Now back on the road with a new battery but I now have a duff speedo. The needle doesn't move and the odometer and trip recorder stay on the current mileage. All other instruments appear to be working fine. Any ideas? Could it be something the auto electrician has disturbed?

Hi Doc
There was a DVD player wired in behind the radio (not standard). This was the wiring that was draining the battery. I have heard that it might be something to do with the speedo wire getting caught up with other wires behind the radio.

Hi, I've 'inherited' my husband's Xantia Exclusive which has been a much-loved, very reliable car. However, recently I had a green fluid leak from the passenger side rear wheel arch area. Before I could get it to the garage, a catastrophic loss of fluid resulted in the car being recovered by the AA. The local Citroen dealer said it was just a 'faulty joint' in a pipe and repaired it. Yesterday I noticed fluid again leaking from same place. This time they said the return pipe had blown off, and it was a pressure fault , and advised that a complex set of diagnostic tests would be needed to determine which of 6 (unspecified) possible things was causing the problem.
They also said that if they find which unit is faulty and replace it, it could have a knock-on effect on the other parts which could also fail, and that the total cost of all this could be anywhere up to £6,000!! meaning in effect that I need a new car.
Is this the end for my car??
Any thoughts or advice greatly appreciated!!

tell what diff is in it?
Let me explain.
I used to race a classic Mini in autograss a few years ago,and as the old grey matter isn't what it was,you could tell what diff was in it,by taking the wheel circumferance, and measuring it against,I think, the bottom pulley v the number of revolutions they used to do.
Am I correct in my theory? Read more
Yep, in 4th gear the overall ratio was the same as the diff ratio. The transfer gear was 1:1 as was 4th gear.
Hello
My Primera is encountering a problem but only when it is up to running temperature. When I've been driving for about 10 mins the rev counter starts to jump around and if I put my foot down the performance is affected. When I have finished the journey and get out of the car there is a burning smell. Does anyone know what the problem is? Read more
Can anyone help with a cabriolet hood which opens only part way then sticks with the rear window section having moved up and the rear hood storage lid lifts about 2 inches. You can hear the hydraulic pump working and the hydraulic reservoir is up to level. There is no sign of any broken wires in the boot.
The windows drop down slightly as they should.
When driving with the hood closed the hood warning light flashes on the dashboard but not every time I drive. Read more
These can be a real pain to fix and usually very expensive. If the deck lid is not raising this could be due to a number of faults;solenoid valves on the hydralic pump ,limit switches on the lifting rams or control unit/wiring fault.A diagnostic check may help with the area at fault.hth
Can anyone advise me which Citroen this belongs to?

Well finally was able to take this along to a Citroen dealer today who looked up his computer and we are 99% certain it comes from the new Berlingo.
Not 100% as the visuals on their computer are not close enough to say exact match.
So it will go on ebay as a Berlingo trim. Quite how a wheel trim for a relatively brand new model turned up in one of our charity shops is another question altogether!
Thank you for all the input, suggestions etc.!
I have recently reached the age of 70 and I now have my first plastic licence.
My question is "How many backroomers carry their plastic licences together with the paper Counterpart driving licence"? as it is advised that the two parts should be kept together in a safe place.
I look forward to your replies.

Plastic bit in my wallet. I am 90% sure I will be able to find it (the wallet) before I go out tomorrow. Not the foggiest where the paper bit is; I'll deal with that when it's an issue.
About 9 months ago my wifes Aygo was damaged in an accident and had some paintwork done by a local insurance approved bodyshop. The workmanship was not great and it had to be returned once, but that is not the problem. Although it wasn't noticeable at the time, it is now possible to see some over-spray on the plastic support of the mirror, in the area the work was done. I wondered what the best way was of removing this, or even whether it's possible to do so.

Ins Co work is warranted for at least 2 to 3 yrs - take it back and ask for it to be fixed.
I took my Honda back 5.5 yrs after the event (2 week old car) I got the rear hatch re=sprayed foc.
That Ins Co has now changed defect support from "all the time you own the car" to 3 years
Help.
car has done 90K miles I've done approx 4k since purchase.
the engine starts, revs, then turns off after 4/5 seconds accompanied by flashing engine warning light.
I 've have the ecu read but this showed no fault. Ecu and steering transponder have been removed and tried on a similar vehicle and it runs ok.
I'm aticipating a lot of conficting advice but any ideas would be appreciated Read more
turns out that they had had this car on their computer back in 2006 when
it had 124k miles!! that life.
Unfortunately (and ironically) it can be all too easy to do a 'mileage correction' on a modern electronic odometer.
Check the MoT history at www.motinfo.gov.uk to check, should go back to 2006 now. It might be the garage made a mistake when the did the previous work; copying an old record and just updating it with your cars details usually does it.

I must say that events like this are very rare, so congrats on your hardware and software and/or hosting service.
