October 2008
It is a 1996 N Fiesta MK4, 66K, body work is not the best but nothing T-CUT won't fix, I am not entirely sure of its history but at this price who cars? The HP check came out fine as did the past 5 MOTs.
The engine runs fine, no miss fires, no knocks or rattles, no smoke just started it up now as its cold and misty and I didn't see any steam or anything from the exahust just the odd little bit as normal.
The tappets need doing as the top tend does sound tappety, I took the risk that that is all it needs doing. I am finding it hard to get used to the steering as at low speeds I had nearly miss judge a tight turn, not sure if its just because it I am not used to PAS, or a problem witht the steering but its only done a few miles since the past MOT.
In the past MOT it had
*New Sills
*Four new brake pads/front discs
*New brake pipes (these look brand new)
*Four new tryes
All the above was done as an advisories, but the seller told me a month later the car became surpless and they spent a while decidign what to do, they decided to sell it, so they put 6 months tax on it.
The car seems to drive very well, clutch took a bit of getting used to, this might need replacing at some point but its not slipping yet.
Its a 1.3 Encore fairly tidy and has the bonus of a CD player.
I paid £350 for it.
The great thing is if it turns out to be a shed I can get almost what I paid for it on ebay, I've lifted the carpet up a bit and floor pan looks very good, no rust round the suspension mounts etc.
Got it booked in on Saturday for tappets, oil change and he is going to check the steering.
Too early to say yet how long I will keep it for but for now its cheaper than a hire car and its cheap to insure.

A couple of weeks ago I bought one of these from a Toyota dealer. It was 6 months old and has done 4000 miles. It seemed to be in decent condition and I got it at a good price - £7500.
I tried a few Yaris's and this one seemed typical, a bit noisy and not that well finished but that's what you get.
Since I had the car, it has been back to the dealer 4 times for poor running and clutch judder, and once more to another dealer when it refused to start. Each time it has been in I have asked for the poorly fitting glove boxes to be looked at and each time I have been told that they are normal.
Today I got the V5 and found out that I am the third owner! I contacted the previous owner and he refused to speak with me other than to say his solicitor was dealing with it. I found some paperwork that related to the original owner, he was a bit more helpful but basically said the car was a shed and he had got it replaced. His wife was really unhappy with the replacement so they sold that one at three months old.
This really concerns me and I suspect that a row with the dealer is about to start. Any ideas other than going to a solicitor or trading standards?

Further to my last message I've got tired of waiting for a response from the dealer and fixed the problem myself. Just a little tweak. I wasn't a motor mechanic for 20 years for nothing. I'm not telling them how I did it though!
Hi, I have a 52 plate 307hdi 110bhp. started doing an intermittant 'misfire' a while ago. then stopped doing it for a while. Also a couple of times early morning it struggled to start. This fault also cleared itself. The misfire is now back. Various warnings on the dash. I've had top up engine coolant level. Presuming this is a faulty sensor as the level is fine. Local auto electrician hooked the car up. Cleared all faults and said lets run it for a wk or so. See what shows. The misfire continued and he was baffled so the car went to a diesel specialists. Not peugeot main dealer though. They said it had a faulty fuel rail pressure sensor which was replaced. Car ran fine for the 40 mile motorway journey home but misfire came back as soon as we got into traffic and speed dropped. Car went back to the diesel specialist who said they 'think' it might be the particulate filter. Take it to peugeot main dealer as they weren't prepared to touch it....... On the drive back from the garage car ran fine but obviously something isn't right. thanks in advance for any help. ohhh and in case screwloose is reading...... yes RHS is in the VIN number Read more
I have focus 1.8tdi 66kW 2000 turnier
At the moment the ABS light is on and brakes are numb and hard to press (it takes about 50-60 meters to stop from 100 km/h). Problem began when brakes were making rustling sound when braking (an ABS light came on sometimes but I could not attach it to specific condition). Changing all front and rear pads did not help. Then I braked as hard as I could and brakes became numb and hard to press.ABS is not working either. What seems to be the problem? Read more
Agree with kith, but........
sounds like you got more than that problem if abs light came on and has stayed on.
Strongly suggest you get a visit to a garage for a full diagnosis. It is your brakes !
Hi, Im trying to find out what the correct boost level is on a 1994 nissan terrano 2.7 turbo diesel. The vehicle has had the actuator renewed and seems sluggish. We have a boost guage set up and its only giving 3psi, what should it be from factory so we can set it up please. Read more

Hi guys,
I have a new Jetta (thats a bit jinxed but thats another story) and would like to fit some "number plate" reversing sensors. Its a plastic plate/surround that goes around the rear number plate and then you do the wiring.
The wiring shouldnt be an issue as the reversing light is on the bootlid, as is the numberplate - but I cant for the life of me work out how to remove the boot lid inner trim to gain access to the gubbins! Its a sturdy carpet covered cardboard type thing, there are no visible fixings for it though.
Any ideas?
TIA,

Its as 659FBE said, 4 screws inside the boothandle recess thing, and then a few good hard tugs.
Have fitted the sensors, they seem to work well - i've left the trim off so i can access the control unit and do any tweaks.
Thanks again for your assistance.
After many years of trouble free motoring, a rattle is evident somewhere associated with the numerous pulleys on the auxilliary Belt. It sounds as though it is in the power steering unit and is most noticeable when the engine is cold at about 2000rpm. More disturbing though, are two pieces of debris that have appeared.
At first I thought the approx 200mm x 6mm length of strip steel was debris from the road which had lodged itself behind the top pulley (Power Steeriing Unit?). A few days later - today I found lodged between the the same unit and the engine block what appears to be part of a grey, polished through wear, broken circular gasket.
There is no real obvious connection with any of the components associated with the pulleys. Performance is not affected in any way. But something tells me all is not well? Read more
To all who contributed to the solution to my problem ...... Thanks. I had the belt and pulley replaced by the local garage and all is well. The old pulley was in a dreadful state and the belt was looking pretty tired as well.
Hi guys,
I?m hoping someone can help me on this matter. The car tax charge change next year.
My car tax is for renewal this month. My question is if i take out 6 months car tax now, will i be able to tax my car for 12 months on the current charges in 6 month time.
I?m not sure when the changes would be. So am i basically better of in the long run to have 6 months tax or should i just take 12 months now?
Hope that makes sense :)

If your tax is going down then buy 6mths now then the next renewal will
be at the lower rate.
So basicaly my tax is due 1month two late :(.
If i got 6months now my tax disk would be due on the end of April 2009. I guess that means i would have to pay the new charge then :(
Does anyone know of a website that lists the internal dimensions of cars?
I have just bought a tandem bicycle and am thinking of changing my car so that I can carry it inside.
I currently have a Citreon Berlingo and carry two solo cycles inside but there is not enough length for the tandem (I have started a second post asking about replacing the front passenger seat in the Berlingo)
Any suggestions welcomed.

Does anyone know of a website that lists the internal dimensions of cars?
Manufacturers web-sites for current models. Clarkson's long-winded criticism of this type of proper information in road tests means that many motoring editors daren't list it. Which is a shame as it would be a great help to those of us who have to live in the real world.
I was wondering if anybody can help I am experiencing problems with my Astra 2L DTI. There is an intermittant fault on the vehicle as occasionally whilst accelerating the power will drop off and the revs will decrease with the accelerator unable to raise them. However if the clutch pedal is pressed and I take it out of gear, re engage the gear and then lift the clutch pedal the revs increase with the accelerator and everything is as normal.
Also when in heavy traffic and the vehicle is at idle for a prolonged period of time the revs will icrease to approx 1300 RPM and the ECU light will come on. During this time the vehicle speed is limited as I cannot increase the revs. This same fault sometimes occurs on initial start up. If the engine is turned off and then re started the fault disapears until the next time it is in a prolonged Idle.
Any help would be greatley appreciated. Read more
possible a clutch switch issue/adjustment what appears to be happening is that its going into limp home mode, you realy need to get it plugged into a code reader/scanner to see whats going on

"The other occasion was a broken clutch cable that went on a Caterham. Managed to limo it to a local motorfactors..."
Oh, I wish I could draw cartoons. Did the limo tow the Caterham or did the Caterham fit inside?
