My car was jerking and nealy cutting out on low gears. I took it to Drive Vauxhall to find out what the problem was. The fault codes that came up with the computer diagonstics are: P0120, P0220, P1550, P0100, P0110. The garage say that I have a cracked inlet manifold. They showed me a hairline crack running along the side.

Any advice? Are the error codes consistent with a cracked inlet manifold? Do I need to address this urgently? The garage said they have cleaned the throttle body, which seems to have stopped the nearly cutting out problem for now.

The dealer garage say that if I don't fix the inlet manifold crack the car will fail its MOT (due in the next couple of weeks). They say they can weld the crack and also need to replace a couple of alternator bolts. All for £220.

How can I know if the car will fail the MOT? Is welding a good idea or should I go for a second hand inlet manifold? How much do alternator bolts cost? The quoted £66 to start with, but now say £10.21!

The car does rev up when I change gears, but not when idle.

Which is recommended, welding the inlet manifold or getting a secondhand one? How much do alternator bolts cost, £66 or £10.21?

Is there any legal check required for trailers, or can you just pull anything around (assuming you think it's safe)? Read more

Trailers have to conform to a plethorta of requirements in relation to Con and Use
Regs and over a certain weight (goods) plating and testing.

Very true and have to be braked over 750kgs.

I am looking for a nearly new BMW for my wife. Possible a
320 CI but more likely a 3 door 1 Series 118SE.

What percentage of list price should I expect to pay for one
six months old and 12 months old assuming 10K miles per
year?

(Her previous car had a "mishap" at the local garage when in for a
minor repair this week - needs a new bonnet, windscreen, and
the roof is less than perfect! Despite BMW servicing the two stage
bonnet catch had seized up and it was not properly down.......) Read more

"This is a tricky one - who would want to sell a 6/12 month old
car?"

Well, for one thing, there's all the ex-BMW UK staff cars - there must be thousands of them.

Just had the first service on our Mercedes B Class diesel auto at a cost of £260.
I was wondering how this cost compared to other makes. Read more

It's not cheap, but it's not a lot dearer than makes like Honda and Mitsubishi.

My local MB dealer advertises A services (which this would be) on most models for £199. Another thing that seems common with MB but I'd never heard of before I got one, is to take your own oil. Costco sell 4L of Mobil1 and Mobil1 TD for £23.50. My dealer charges over £15 per litre.

Bear in mind that having the car serviced by an MB dealer does revalidate the Mobilo breakdown service for 2 years - there's some value in that.

An Ohio man with a hatred of paper money slapped down $8,000 in coins at a car dealership to buy a Chevrolet pick-up - then paid the rest by cheque.

James Jones, 70, produced 16 coffee cans full of coins to buy his new Chevrolet Silverado in Cincinnati and staff spent 90 minutes counting it.

But his coin hoard only covered half of the $16,000 (£8,500) price tag.

The man's son said the most amazing thing for him was his father deciding to replace his 1981 pick-up at all.

After 27 years he probably needed a change!

Or in fact by the thin skull rule which is a matter of law.

So the thin skull rule (on which I am far from expert) would appear not to accept the premise that luck is not an appropriate metric for determining the severity of an offence. That's fine. If you don't accept a premise then any logic built on that premise is irrelevant. In my opinion intent is important and luck is irrelevant so I do accept the premise.

I am aware that I am describing what I think the law should be, not what it is. After all, away from the world of motoring, by my argument (and in my opinion) there should be no distinction between murder and attempted murder and the concept of (involuntary) manslaughter should not exist in law at all.

I received this link yesterday. I would imagine you'd need to be Russian with a black pond in the garden to fuel the £85k V10 Biturbo RS6 with 580PS and 650Nm.

Looks a nice balanced car to my eye now.
Previously, it always looked like a big car sitting on a small platform to me.

A friend of mine has a 1999 vauxhall corsa 1.5 non turbo diesel. The problem has been trying to start from cold. When he trys to start the car from cold when it has been left over nite it will not start. He has checked that there is fuel at the injectors but if he fills the pump up with diesel manualy it will start. All the glow plugs have been checked and are working fine.

Can anyone offer any info on the pump..like when it is turned off does it still hold fuel in the pump or does it return back into the tank...sorry if this seems a bit vauge but i'm getting the problem via second hand info. Read more

with this being a 15d then it will only have one rubber leakoff pipe because the injectors are linked with a metal contraption so the pipe is an easy fix, iirc the fuel filter is a spin on affair has the filter been changed/off recently, the reason for asking is that there is a heater element between the filter and the filter head when the filter gets changed the screw/nut comes undone half a turn allowing air to enter the system (the heater element has a seal around the top if its been displaced then this is likely the culprit) worth checking, the other things that allow air in are the flexible rubber pipes from the tank to the filter the main pipes are plastic but where they are needed to be flexible they use a rubber fuel hose these perish over time and will allow air to enter the system

Hi

My Astra (Hatch) has annoying "wind whistling" noise that comes from the back somewhere when you get to speeds above 40mph or so, its really annoying I cant see any obvoise gaps in the doors/rubber surrounds and all the windows are fully up, however when washing the car a slight dribble does sometimes (not all the time) come through the rear left handside door window but its fully wound up (manual not elec)

Is this common, or does anyone have any ideas or had the same problem its more annoying more than anything - if you turn up the radio you cant hear it but sometimes i like to drive without the radio on and all i hear is this whistling coming from the back.

Thanks in advance
