3weeks ago my petrol light was jammed indicating i was low on petrol(i was not)i pulled in to get petrol anyway, then my car seemed to jam and a clicking noize came from underneath the stearing wheel.the car would not even turn over and apart from the clicking sound nothing was happening. i was jumped started and went forn a long drive as the mechanic said it was the battery but this did not work.I had to get a new battery fitted which seemed to solve the problem.. but it has started to do it again after 3weeks.
Can anyone suggest what the problem could be?
it is a megane coupe sports 2oo2 50 k on the clock.
thank you

You've got some pretty dumb mechanics around there; even an apprentice knows that you never replace the battery without first checking that the charging system is working.

Unfortunately - yours isn't. Get the alternator checked or replaced.

Replacing the battery was unnecessary; the new one just ran flat too.

I have been having problems with the engine running a little hot.I know the fan temp switch has gone because the previous owner has fitted a manual switch inside the car to turn on/off the fan.I have found that normal day running if i keep the car heater on and heater fan on number 2 the engine temp will stay midway on temp gauge, but as soon as i turn off car heater the engine temp will start to rise up towards 100oC where i can turn the fan on manually.Any suggestions please. In normal driving, you shouldn't need the fan at all; you have an overheating problem that needs finding.

The 02 88k mile MPV we bought last September, has now been off the road for 4 months, in need of an engine.

I have tried left, right and centre, and cannot source a replacement engine. I have contacted several people, including Mazda themselves, and got conficting information on whether the crank can even be reground at all. Some recon people say no, Mazda say yes.....and so on (several).

But I need to cure it - I am 10k out of pocket so far, and at the moment, the car is (only) worth about 700. If I spend good money to repair it, at least I'll have a car, albeit a v expensive one - but I'd lose less by fixing it than..........well, tbh, throwing a match at it..........!!

Option 1: New short engine end from Mazda. Big $$
Option 2: New crank, shells, possibly rods, too..........into existing block. $$
Option 3: ??

Given that
Problem though........what if I put option 1 in, and there's the tiniest bit of swarf in another part from the b/end failure.......and I fubar engine no 2 (I'm thinking in particular of oil galleys in turbo.........) ?

Should I fit a new oil pump anyway, or can I check the existing one? (I mean, is this the actual cause of the problem in the first place..........or has that been determined as the actual issue by now??)

Oh - forgot - can anyone tell me weight, approx, of a complete 2.0 engine ? (I want to get a stand & crane).

Any and all help/suggestions/etc - including info on parts, or a donor engine - even a fubar'd one (to practice on....), would be greatly appreciated. - I mean, I have now had to go and buy a replacement car.........so am now making 2 x car payments ! - This was not part of the plan.

Oh - fwiw - I bought an 06 Saab 1.9TiD 150bhp Vector Estate............ Read more

Funny, I am reading in Whic# that Mazda are the most reliable car on the planet, surely shum mistake, a new engine required before 250k miles? ( from a Ford owner)

Strange is it not these so called Motoring Organisations that are supposed to be looking after our interests do not bring a private prosecution against this deceiptful person /SCP for fraud, perjury etc etc.

Until such time as they do then letting them off the hook will continue.

Seeing this more & more on the motorways of late.

Cars sitting right on the rears of HGV's and HGV's sitting so close together that they cannot see much more than the rear of the vehicle in front.

Any one else noticed this increase too?

M1 yesterday afternoon I saw a convoy of slip streamers that had no less than 8 x 40 tonners doing just this. 55 to 60mph and with some of them less than a cars length in front.

All sat so close together that it would have been a right domino effect if things went wrong...

I know, professional drivers [sic] and all that but yesterday afternoon at Wolley Edge the M1 was closed for a good 5+ hours and in both directions.

I have not seen of or heard actual confirmation yet but the local radio said the police had informed them that the accident may have been caused by vehicles tailgating.

I'm afraid the poor Ford didn't have time to get into reverse. The incident occurred at the bottom of Cleeve Hill in Gloucestershire, a stretch of road that can help a 2CV fairly close to the speed of sound if the driver keeps his foot firmly in it...

I've often wondered how long the black lines were in each direction. Both drivers survived more or less unscathed, so one assumes there were black lines and the collision speed wasn't a combined 190mph...

Delving again into the Historical record ;)

Does anyone remember the low viscosity oils that were promoted in the (I think) early 70s as a fuel saving measure?

I can remember an allegedly 25,000 change interval for one synthetic at that time, but there were others, lower viscosity at the upper as well as `W` end of the scale.

Point of interest to me is the cars of the era would have had their rings and plain bearings set for a thicker oil.

Did you ever try these oils out and what was the result? Read more

Most Insurers will suspend an existing Motor Insurance Policy at a reduced premium

During the period when cover is suspended, they provide cover for loss or damage caused by fire or theft but is is usually dependant on the car being kept in a locked private garage.

I suspect it will be difficult if no impossible to obtain such cover for an ungaraged car.

Although the price of fuel is soaring at an alarming rate, why are drivers still in such a hurry? I would`ve thought by now that the speed kings would tend to drive economically and get as many MPG as practicable . Is company car man still on an infinite expense account? I still get people tailgating me because i`m not going fast enough for them but i don`t give in to them ( unless they have a blue lamp flashing ).
Better to be late in this world than early in the next is what i`ve heard said before and it makes sense to me.

Lots of interesting comments,Politicians tell us to show restraint and they blame the oil producers for high prices but , if it wasn`t for the tax, we`d have the cheapest fuel in Europe, i believe so anyway . What other product is double taxed ( duty & vat) anyway i`d like to know?
