Impotent cyclists are excellent news. They will be prevented
from producing another generation of selfish
law breaking pavement riding idiots!

It certainly seems to make AS impotent with rage, which has brightened my day considerably given the ill-considered and vindictive twaddle quoted above.

Cyclists using busy pavements are idiots, as are most that run red lights. Occasionally either may be justified, albeit illegal. Real policing should be able to differentiate between the two.

Found this wonderful little private steam museum, Markham Grange near Doncaster, over the weekend & by sheer accident.

I say little but it has some fantastic static steam engines in it!

Of course, they will only be 'fantastic' if steam engines flick your switch that is :)

All restored to an exceptionally high standard and range from the very small to huge!

The museum is open Monday to Friday 10am to 4pm with the engines 'usually'** in steam every Wednesday and Bank Holidays; also the first Sunday in every month
(**It's as well to telephone before setting off 01302 330430).

Ample parking but best day to go is a Wednesday afternoon as it is on the site of a very large combined garden/aquatic/pet centre.

More info from the website: tinyurl.com/6b75gl or to find by Satnav, postcode is DN5 7XB.

Nottingham Wollaton Park has a small museum with some static engines which I think is worth a visit if you're in the area, the last Sunday of every month is 'Engines in Steam' day. There is also a small collection of vintage cars, motorbikes and pushbikes. Entrance is free but they like a small donation IIRC.

One place I've not visited in years is Kelham Island Museum in Sheffield; but I think it has still not reopened since the floods of June 2007. It is not free but when it reopens is worth a visit just to see the massive 12000hp River Don Engine, which used to power a steel plate rolling mill.

Can anybody explain to me where the camshaft position sensor is located on my BMW 530d Sport touring?

I need to replace it but cant find any info about its location.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks Read more

Hi,
The camshaft position sensor on most of the straight sixes is one side or other of the head,at the same level as the camshaft(the top of the head!).From memory,I think it is on the the inlet side of the head, but I can't be certain.
Hope this is helpful.

From "The Daily Telegraph":

> 1. Drive smoothly. Don't accelerate hard and brake hard while starting and
> stopping. By building up your speed gradually and coasting towards a red light,
> rather than slamming on the brakes at the last minute, you could cut fuel
> consumption by up to 20 per cent.

Well. "Up to" clearly indicates the number "0". This must be for town drivers, and, to boot, those bereft of common sense.

> Slow down. The most fuel-efficient speed is 56mph, and by driving at 56mph instead
> of 70mph you increase fuel efficiency by another 20 per cent.

Shorely some mishtake (Ed.). Where do they find this stuff??

3. Get rid of dead weight. Clearing your boot of toolboxes and other heavy objects can increase fuel efficiency by two per cent. Taking off unused roof racks will save another two per cent.

"Can", "Up to". Well, yes. Roof racks, 2%? Up to a point, perhaps....

4. Check your tyres are properly inflated. Under-inflated tyres can increase fuel consumption by three per cent.

Again....

5. Don't use air conditioning, which increases fuel consumption by an average of eight per cent.

But at what speed, under which conditions, in what car?

The above indicates to me that someone's been paid to mouth fairly meaningless words. Why?? Is this sort of thing helpful, "dumbing down" (sic), rather than catering for Mr. Average? Read more

If you think too much about it your fuel consumption is also affected. Brain uses more glucose, extra food has to be eaten and carried in the car from the supermarket, which increases fuel consumption.

That`s why I can`t quite get 80 mpg on a round trip. Thinking too much about it- that and engine oil.

Just bought a Ford Smax from a franchised dealer - picking up tomorrow. Can anyone just clarify Ford warranties - told I'd have balance of manufacturer warranty. Can anyone confirm this is 3 yr (60,000 miles)? I assumed this but a bit of internet reading makes me wonder if manufacturer warranty is only a year, then "dealer backed warranty" for 2 years.

I'm a bit confused with it. Can anyone clarify before I finalise my deal tomorrow (my fault for not asking enough questions when viewing the other day!) To be honest I assumed a minimum from dealers was 60000 miles/3 yrs these days.

All help appreciated, will clearly ask closely tomorrow but forewarned is forearmed! (It is a main dealer purchase but not on the "Ford direct" scheme) Read more

Do you have a Shogun or a Pajero. If it is a Pajero pop the switch out from the dash and check that the wires are all connected at the plug. The SVA centres have a habit of taking a feed from the switch to fit the aftermarket fog lamp.

Garage card-cloning investigated.

A number of motorists who used credit or debit cards at a Cotswolds garage have reported being victims of fraud.
Police believe a data recording and transmitting device may have been fitted to the swipe machine at the Murco petrol station in Andoversford.
Customers were contacted by their banks after suspicious withdrawals from their accounts in countries such as Jamaica.
Gloucestershire Police said the petrol company and local management were fully co-operating with their inquiries.
The swipe machine has been seized for forensic science examinations.
Acting Sgt Tim Griffiths said police received the first report of possible credit card cloning last Thursday morning.
"It was soon apparent that many in the area had fallen victim to numerous fraudulent transactions on their debit and credit cards," he said.
"A warrant was executed on Saturday morning at the Murco Garage at Andoversford, as were related warrants for addresses in Cheltenham and Churchdown.
"I would like to stress that Murco UK and the local management are fully co-operating with the investigation."

Anyone who used the cash machine between May and the first week of June, and who noticed suspicious withdrawals from their account, is advised to contact their bank and inform the police.

Well took your advice and bought a couple of ADVENT mains plug devices for £55 plus a wireless router down at the computer shed this morning. All now set up and working fine. Have had to use a powerstrip since as you say they are fairly chunky. Connection seem rock solid. Impressive bit of kit and dead easy to install. Thanks again for the advice

The A308 at Hampton is the main route from Hampton Court to the M3.
It is also a significant road for many other routes.
It is already a 20mph limit, yes twenty mph, which must be rare for a route like this as it is not a shopping / pedestrian area and it is flat but not that narrow. It is also a bus route but no big schools within a mile ( A tiny private school with total car delivery is a about 200 yds away off route.)
IMO it seemed over the top to impose a 20 mph limit. Never been aware of any RTA during many years of commuting through there.

Now Gatsos have been installed in both directions so beware.
I would expect these to be BIG earners. Read more
