Hi all, First post so go easy.
I have a Peugeot 306 cabriolet which seems to have some sort of electrical gremlin. The speedo and rev counter have started to flicker (Needles jitter a couple of mm and you can hear the servos cycling) when the ignition is first switched on and they do the same when you turn off. Its only for a few seconds but they then take a few more to register and revs or speed. Once working they seem to be OK. Related I think is the Clock and temp display are cycling through horizontal and vertical lines. I have noticed also that the relays for the electric windows (first two green ones top row from left, plus first from left on second row) are getting very warm, Is this usual(windows work fine)? Also linked I am not sure that the cooling fans are operating. I have checked all fuses, could it be an earthing problem (although windows etc work fine) any ideas gratefully received. Many thanks Craig Read more
has anyone tried this ? their cars used to be cheaper , I am certain. Now , looking at A class MB, 3 year old models just out of warantee seem to be retailing there for appx 50% of negotiated CURRENT new model prices , if not more , plus they want £91 ' document fee' and £55 to send the log book to DVLA . I wouldn't go there just for that .
All they do is stock up at auction and send them over - you can sometimes see the auction stickers still on the displayed stock ..
Can you shave off their prices now ? Years ago I used to pop in regularly , and saw an SL Merc that the salesman whispered had been there ' for at least a year ' ( I thought just 6 months ) . The manager wasn't there so i faxed through an offer of about 80% of the screen price - never heard back .
When I see their sticker on a car driven on the roads , it makes it look devalued on the spot, a low class brand .. Read more

A tyre is near the legal limit. It's 14x60x195. I have a near-unworn, in-date, 13x?x175 tyre on a rim with the same PCD. If I were to run it on the back, opposite a 14x60x195, what issues might I noticees? Read more
Owing to the larger slip angles, cross plies on the rear while radials are fitted to the front is both an MOT fail and illegal.

At a main dealer or an independant?
Depends if it has air con or not too.
But at a guess around 2 hours for service + parts as required (parts around £ 50 - £100 depending on whats needed) + around 2 hours for belt + kit + water pump (parts around £ 100?)
So just work in a labour rate and you should have a rough estimate.
For a more accurate one why not ring a couple of locals, independant and main dealer for example?
Hi all,
Good to be back.. I have recently moved to Prague with my work so out for a while..
Right, I now currently have a BMW 530d 1999 model... stupidly big car, but I needed car quick and it was cheap from a mate returning from Czech to the UK....
Everything work great but I have an issue with the A/c
It seems to work fine... blows very cold air.. Auto work etc, etc... however sometimes it seems to 'stop' working.. I do not mean the Fan but the actual A/c.. I would say it works 85/90% of the time. It seems to always cut out when I drive at speed (i.e 150kph plus) but that may well just be me.
When it packs up, if I turn the car off, then back on again she seems to work again....
ANY idea's??
oh.. still trying to sell my wife 2001 A4 tdi if anyone's interested.. ended up with a 110% time waster on flea bay :0(..
Cheers

About a couple of years ago, I had to call the AA because my Ford Focus (petrol) had a power steering pump leak. The AA mechanic said that it was caused by a "pressure sensor leak". Because I couldn't drive the car to a garage to be repaired (the leak was too large), I had a mobile mechanic come to my house to do the work.
Do you think that this repair will prevent the same thing happening again in the near future and are power steering system leaks common especially on cars of this age and is it possible that any fluid from such a leak could get into the timing belt compartment ?

Hi,
My friend had with a Mercedes 300SL with a power problem.
The distributor cap has been replaced and the car has recently passed an mot. I expect this type of car due to the weight is not going to be high performance but it is really struggling to go and there is a vibration through the front wheels at approx 40 mile an hour which I can only describe as trying to drive the car with the front wheels seized on. very sluggish.
Any ideas please?
Mike.

binding brakes through lack of use?
I recently had cause to check the service invoice for my 2.0d TS2, and found I had been invoiced for 5.1 litres of Oil. The engine only holds 4.1! The dealer has stated that this is a problem with the Mazda supplied service software (no I don't believe it either!) However if you get a moment you may want to check the amount of engine oil invoiced to the stated capacity in the handbook. You may be surprised.

Does nobody use bulk tanks anymore?
If the car needed seven pints, that is what I withdrew from the tank and that is what the customer was quite correctly charged for.
We also had an overhead lube bay powered by compressed air.
The grease gun was OK, but the engine oil gun pumped a bit too quick, leading to some oil drenched rocker covers, and some very smoky engines - albeit temporarily.
Q: 'Why has my car been road tested for 30 miles?'
A: 'Because we managed to squirt half a pint of oil over the exhaust manifold.'
"I don't think they're particularly cheap any more"
You are correct! I have been looking to buy a small car from them for quite a while, given that they are very close to where I live, however after viewing over 20 different vehicles, I decided to buy from a main dealer, because I got a better overall deal.
Some of the vehicles I looked at, were very tatty for their age, which suggest that they must have had a very hard life.
I'm sure many people got wonderful deals from CG, however it didn't work in my case.
