I own a Ford Focus 1.8 petrol which has air conditioning fitted.

I bought the car when it was 5 years old and I have no evidence that the air con system has ever been serviced and so far in the time that I have had it, I have had nothing done to it.

I have read on the internet that up to 10% of the refrigerant is lost every year.

The air temperature that I get when I use it with the recirculation switch "ON" is still quite cold but I am worried about the compressor failing.

Any information or personal experience welcome.

In almost 20 years of having aircon only needed a re-gas twice. First was on a Mini which was done under warranty. Stopped blowing cold but they never said if there was a leak or if it was "just one of those things", never happened again whilst we owned it

Second was on a Kia Ceed, stopped blowing cold and the system was noisy. Hole in the condensor and no refrigerant in the system. All repaired FOC by Kia....

Watched a Car pull out onto the inner city ring road in Leeds yesterday, the drivers window lowered as it moved into lane two at around 30mph and an elegant looking female arm and wrist showed along with a flash of white.

Next thing an A4 sized paint catalogue was flung out, fluttering down the road, just missing the car in front.

( I overtook later, not a kid, but a woman of around 30)

Thought I had just about seen it all on the road. I wonder what the limit of behaviour is currently for tossing things out of the window.

It must be tempting for a certain kind of person to misbehave, tease or annoy people under the cloak of anonymity. The Shakespearean villain Iago introduces himself as someone who enjoys shouting 'Fire!' in the middle of the night and sniggering as the panicky citizens rush out in their nightclothes. The modern variant makes hoax calls to the emergency services (and in extreme cases attacks them when they arrive). But most of these people are idiots, not real villains, although that sort of thing can cause harm.

Hi, I have a ldv pilot 03 and the door locks seem to stick sometimes when unlocking, they unlock with the key but not when using the door handle, apart from buying new locks is there anything else that can be done. Cheers. Read more

Or pop to your local locksmith or indeed motor factors, try dry graphite lubricant, don't use WD 40 - if this is a Ford type brass key it may be a worn key.

watching the star of Foyle's War get into his police Wolsey reminds me how easy entry and exit were in that era, of course, because the front doors were hinged on the centre pillar in those days and opened forwards. So much more comfortable, particularly for people with back problems.
I suppose that design would probably be a safety issue today. The only other later opening methods that have enhanced accessibility are, I reckon, gull wing flip-up and sliding doors.

I said above that I had owned three cars with rear-hinged front doors. That was a mistake, because one of them was a late-thirties six-cylinder 1.5 litre Fiat, with a 'pillarless' semi-monocoque body. The rear doors were rear hinged and the front ones front hinged, with the latch plates on the floor and roof of the car. It was a good-looking arrangement but flexing or settling of the body had made the doors slightly rattly and creaky. Not that it mattered.

I keep driving past a Mk 2 Cortina for sale, and because I can and it's there, I'm minded to buy it for occasional use. It's £500, for sale by a classic car garage, but i haven't actually stopped and looked it over properly yet. It's four door, but I don't know trim level or engine - it is a dull silver, which suggests a high spec for the time (but i could be wrong). It's a G reg, and Bristol (local to me) registered.

My only experience of these is the back seat when i was about four years old.

Can anyone (ahem) mature / senior enough to have had one and remember what to look out for on these? I do appreciate that it'll be a shock compared to today's cars.

29000 miles, little old lady's car.
I see other owners enjoyed theirs in Seacoast Blue and Fern green.
I dunno what 'ford' colour mine was - sort of darkish turquoise. Damed ugly as well!
For future reference, things that can go wrong: propshaft often needs balancing. Tie rod ends area sod to get off.

Hi, i have a 1998 voyager 3.3 ive heard that problems with the heater diversion flaps can be an expensive fix.
Mine seems to have a problem in that no matter where the diversion dial is set nothing much seems to change.
Does anyone know the 'actual' fault with these as it seems quite common and what is the fix.

I wonder if some-one could help me. I am a disabled person with a Citroen ZX diesel when I was coming home from a long trip the other day my car started losing power on the motorway. LIke spluttering. The fuel tank was at 3/4 full and no other apparent problems.

A friend of mine suggested that I should get the Fuel filter and the Cam belt changed so I went ahead with his advise but after spending £160 on it the problem is still there infact it seems to be worse.

The problem seems to be intermitent and usually at spends of around 65mph - 70mph although it does it more when traveling up hill.

I have to keep putting my foot to the floor in hopes that it will pick up power. but because of my disability it has now made me very nervous and in mid August I have an Holiday planned.

Can anyone with good knowledge suggest what the problem could be please?

What wonderful help the people on this site are, Peter N your a Star and the others that tried to help. The problem now appears to be fixed. The resulting promlem was with the filler cap. It has now been fixed and a run down the Motorway sown no signs of power loss. I saw a small, hard top convertible with a Mitsubishi badge on the front (curiously no badge on the rear) last night heading from Chester towards Wrexham. Firstly, full marks for having the top down on a warm evening but, and I hardly dare mention this given the enthusiasm shown in another thread, it was amazingly ugly. The rear was completely out of proportion to the front. I half expected to see a control tower on one side and a man with ping pong bats guiding an aircraft in! :-) OK, I'm exaggerating but the driving position did seem to be well forward, with the usual supermini short nose, but then this big long tail bringing up the rear. That was a CZC?

Thanks W, I didn't notice any rear seats at all so I guess the rear may have appeared longer than it really was.
