Hi, i'm a new member and would really appreciate any help. The problem is the rear suspension. It will go to the lowest setting and the highest setting but not normal ride height. The only way i can get it to stay at normal height is to start from the lowest setting and wait until the rear just starts to rise and then switch to normal but this doesn't always work. When this does work the rear will still slowly drop while driving so really only a short fix anyway. This has only happened in the last few days so i guess it will soon become undriveable. Looking at the threads it looks like it's the ride height adjuster. is this correct. Also it said about spraying WD40 onto the links that work the height adjuster but i've been under the car, looked at the height adjuster and i can't really make head nor tail of it. One thing i did notice though was a white link that is attached to what looks like a ball, but the other end is just hanging down but looks like it should also be connected to a ball, but i can't see where. The other question is i noticed over a period of time that the rear suspension was starting to sink when the car was parked up and got to the point where it was completely bottoming out over night, though strangely not all the time, but i didn't think too much of it as when started the suspension always went back to normal height. I did notice though that for no reason the ride was starting to become firm but on other days was smooth. This doesn't make any sense to me. Phoned the local citroen people and was absolutely horrified by potential cost, so guys i'm going to have to sort this lot out myself but only with your kind help....Sorry ths is a long one but again i really would appreciate any help....Many thanks Read more

The lever that has the other ball on has perhaps sprung right around to the limit of its travel on the height correction valve. I have to emphasise earlier comments ref supporting the car when working on this unit.

My car has had a replacement reclaimed engine (V reg), a reconditioned fuel pump and a new cam-belt earlier this year. The car starts okay but after driving a while the glow plug flashes and it loses power. I was able to restart it, however the same thing happened after a short while. Does anybody know what can cause this? As I've had quite a lot (and expensive!) work done I am apprehensive about garages! Read more

Yes I found some useful discussions on here. I had someone do a test and they found some faults relating to the accelerator sensor, got a new pedal and fingers crossed it's running okay. Thanks for you response!

In an (uncharacteristically coherent) article from today's HJ News section, we are told that Sat nav systems which warn of FIXED speed cameras are already banned in 8 European countries.
Some countries merely insist the "Points of Interest" feature be switched off, meaning that you may drive past any number of towns with muesums, castles or Michelin starred restaurants but may not let your TomTom tell you their name or phone number as you do so. (Really makes it worthwhile having a SatNav, doesn't it?)
In other countries, including Ireland, if the BIB somehow work out that POI is fitted or working or both, the device may be confiscated altogether.
This quite literally impedes the free movement of EU citizens and goods and it is therefore illegal! Time for proper definitions and regulations Europe-wide and no more of these unilateral Diktats from a few countries.
Just when bendy bananas are being allowed in, we get THIS. GAAAHHHH!!!!! Read more

I think the content of the article may not be as clear as it could be.
Last year I bought a standalone sat-nav system in Germany, made for the German market. A couple of months later the manufacturer released a software upgrade which enabled safety camera location throughout Europe. This could not be implemented on my system.
I think it is the safety camera POI that the authorities have issue with, not all POI categories.
I have never been controlled and asked to give a full working demo of the unit.

Just posted a question about running cool and then went out to check filler cap and found a thin line of tell-tale creamy stuff around filler cap. Is this the start of head gasket going?

Is it irreversible - is it safe to take on a long trip, is it too expensive to get fixed at a garage (how much), should I just get rid of it (it's a clean car with 76000 on it)

Please, any advice would be hugely welcome.

Yes, temp's looking a bit low. 1.9TD driven reasonably will only make low 40s mpg. Mid to low 30's easily attainable if you thrash it!

According to my dictionary a liana is "a woody climbing usually tropical plant". Don't the people who choose model names consult dictionaries?

Toyota Deliboy (was it yellow and three wheeled, by any chance?)

Yellow yes, slightly up on the compliment of wheels though.

I own a 1999 Ford Focus 1.8 (petrol) which has the Zetec E type engine.

How do Ford engines compare with those of other manufacturers in terms of the likelyhood of engine oil leaks and whereabouts do the oil leaks originate on zetec engines ?

But my 2000 model 1.8 does not leak or burn a drop between 6 monthly oil changes.

I have just got back from Malcesine on my 2000 mile roadtrip in our MG.

We got the ferry to Amsterdam though and went through Holland, Germany, Austria, over the brenner pass and into Italy. Total 780 miles each way.

There are lots of roadworks in Germany though which gave frustrating progress at times - although making the time up with a lead foot was quite fun - and all legal as well :-) Not much help for your route I dont think but we stayed at Munich on the way down and Frankfurt on the way back.

As already mentioned the car ferry to Limone is quite good but its better to drive it! You pass the roads where the bond accidents were though but the views are amazing and the roads are good fun too.

We toured the majority of the lake and Verona in the 10 days we were there and had the best holiday we have ever had - having your own car helps as well.

Just bought a 1998 306 Turbo diesel. Runs fine, good power but am a bit concerned that the engine temp seems a bit cool. Have looked at forum before and 80 - 85 seems a good temp but mine is running at more like 70 when fully warmed up.. Should this be a cause for concern, should I attend to it would it cause low MPG or anything worse.

I know it could be a stupid question but any advice appreciaited.

It does sound to me like the thermostat could be faulty. I believe they are cheap and relatively easy to replace so it's worth doing.

The theromostat on my old 306 1.9TD used to open at around 88 deg and then drop to 80 where it would remain until I got stuck in traffic on a hot day or climbed a long steep hill with four on board.

Hi guys,

The engine on my 306 died. I took it to a garage whom quoted £1500 to change it.........

So, I looked around and found a peugeot breaker in norfolk, I phoned the guy who was confident from the chassis number that they had an engine the same, so i ordered it and it came today. The guy that is fitting it phoned me to say it is different, I haven't seen it yet but he says the main of it is the same and something about the ignition is different? I know from looking at it when I took it to him that it had air con on it and my car doesn't but I didn't notice anything different.

Can anyone advise me are there loads of different engines for a 1998, KFX (Chassis no) peugeot 306 1.4 petrol? Will it mean that fitting this engine I have is impossible? Sorry to be bit vague but i'm just getting prepared B4 I go to see him tomorrow and find out what is different!

Thanks, any advice is welcome

Cheers

Thanks for the reply. I went to look at it and you are spot on, it has no HT leads. I told the guy to take the old on out and swap all of it over to the "new" one. But it is in his hands as to whether that is possible!!

Any further advice is welcomed!
