Hi,
i have just had the water pump and timing belt changed in the Peugeot 206. The garage it was at said they know there was a problem because they counld hear a groaning noise from the water pump. Now I have it back, and the engine is still making noises, both what sounds like a groaning noise to me and a higher pitched noise. The garage says this is the fan belt adjusting as they had to remove it and that it should go away in time. Should the engine not sound a lot better anyway?

So following HJ's defence of tailgating truckers (Motoring Sat 24th May), how many motorists are willing to drive over their indicated speed in a contra-flow and risk being zapped by a gatso or get squashed by a 40 ton truck? hmmm tough choice eh? Read more
I have an 02 clio with 33k miles on the clock owned from new. I know that its age dictates that the cambelt should be changed but as the cost would be a reasonable % of the cars value, I wondered whether there was any information on the incidence iof failure.
I appreciate that if it goes the repair cost will be somewhat more than the replacemt would be but if say only say 1 in 20 fail then that might be a risk I'd be prepared to take.
Any advice appreciated

Hi all,
I recently had the battery disconnected to have some work done on the car. I have no idea of the code for the Clarion standard stereo.
Does anyone know how I can find this out please?
Thanks

Or do a quick Google to reveal loads of people who will do it online for £10.00 or less.
Can any one help?
I have a 2001 ford galaxy 1.9TD (115ps) with an expired engine (little end I think) the engine code is AUY. I have found for sale a golf 1.9TD engine which visualy looks the same but the engine code is ATD does any one know the difference? will it fit with just changing the ancillarys?
Thanks in advance

If it helps, the 115 ps 1.9 Tdi engine in the Golf of that year is code AJM. I am fairly sure this will fit. (Both your Galxy engine and the Golf are PD injector engines).
Just picked up a Modus courtesy car and I only seem able to unlock and open the drivers door. Of course, there is no manual in the car
any ideas ? Read more

My 55 reg 1.4tdi looses power when accelerating t admittedly highish speed in fifth overtaking on motorways. It is something to do with turbo as engine keeps running but with embarrassing and dangerous lack of oomph. But switch off ignition briefly and then turn on again and everything picks up -- usually. Skoda agent ran it on computer for an hour and says there is nothing wrong .......................

Hi Ben,
Great to have the feedback on this. I wish everyone would do the same.
Steve.
My other half's parents are looking to downsize from their vectra auto to something smaller. They have about 6k + their vectra to spend. They were thinking something like the nissan micra auto in diesel but I am not sure whether that is the best thing. They were thinking of switching from petrol to diesel but as they do less than 15k a year then I can't see the point and a switch at their years might be more prone to misfueling than one done when younger.
Whatever they buy needs to be cheap to run, with a decent auto, reasonably safe and reliable. Any ideas on what vehicle to suggest? I was thinking the cmax or a jazz. Tax band would probably need to be C or below.

>> My mother-in-law has a Jazz auto also a good car but I felt the Note...
Interesting - I've been thinking about replacing our Jazz and now manufacture has moved to China I really don't like the idea of buying a Chinese made car - it's almost unavoidable on some products and they get enough from us. I really feel that, all things being equal, it would be good to support cars like Note which is at least built in the UK.
Note sure about the 1.6 engine though - we had a 1.6 Clio before the Jazz and even 5 yrs ago dealers were not that interested in taking it in p/x.
does any one know how to reset the service lights,as it has gone into limp mode, because service is due ,been serviced but dont know how to reset, other than take to dealer.any one help .

>>I suspect, considerably cheaper
That would be true if were not for the need to incorporate a handbrake mechanism.
If you do it properly, like MB, Volvo, and older Vauxhalls, you have a seperate small drum brake in the "top hat" section of the disc. So, you have a disc brake and a drum brake - not cheap.
If you try to bodge, and use the pads as the handbrake device, you need to use a complex mechanism to apply the force to the pads AND to also compensate for the disc contraction as it cools. None of this is easy or cheap.
A full sized drum brake allows the easy incorporation of a handbrake mechanism, and, if well designed does not need to be disturbed too often, as wear rates are so small.
