Hi All

Firstly I apologise if this has been asked before but I'm new on here and looking back through the archives I can't seem to find an answer.

Is it ok to use commercially bought bio diesel in a common rail turbo diesel engine?

Thanks in advance

Both the Honda and the Skoda say no to 100% bio diesel and had warning stcikers in the filler cap. Both ran happily on French Diesel which includes a small percentage.

If there is nothing in the book, or the filler cap check with the manufacturer.

A mistake will be expensive.

A spring carnival of resistance to airport expansion at Heathrow

The following is a sample of web info

"31st May 2008 12:00pm to 06:00pm We can stop the runway! We will stop the runway!
Stop the third runway at Heathrow! Stop Heathrow expansion! Stop the runaway growth in aviation! Tell the government to get real on climate change and prevent a climate catastrophe! "

"Start time 12.00 noon. Assembly point Hatton Cross (Picadilly Line tube station). There will be a a carnival-style march to a festival-style event at Sipson (the village which will be destroyed if the 3rd runway goes ahead). This will include the creation the world's biggest "NO" - spelt out in human bodies. "

Hi People.....

found this forum at last.....

i have a a bit of a problem that i'm not sure has been covered.?
my P reg escort 1.8td van is running really bad an i need help!!!

hard to start in the mornning.
very rough idle when cold. (almost like it's missing)
rough idle when hot.
white-ish smoke at idle.
pulling away very sluggish then all of a sudden it springs into life and off we go....?
very little to none smoke when driving along
drives quite nice at speed but not sure if 80mph should be max speed for a turbo

only just got the van and what i have been told is that a few things have been done recently.(i have receipts for parts changed...!)

new injectors
new timing belt and tensioner.
new glow plugs
new oil
new oil filter
new air filter

i have been told that i should suspect two things

1. EGR valve
2. air flow meter.

now what......?

cheers

Over the last couple of years there have been a handful of occassions when I have considered it necessary to get somewhere asap. The last two occassions being my daughter being born last summer & last week a dash from work to hospital following said daughter practising her diving skills onto the kitchen floor! Two questions arise from this:
1) Is there ANY leniency from the law if you get pulled over for exceeding posted limits in such situations?
2) Do the backroomers think there is any realistic way that people driving in a genuine emergency situation could communicate their 'need' to other road users? A flashing light for instance? Last week was particularly concerning as I was unsure whether daughter would make it at the time(she did) and was stuck in barely moving traffic around for Salisbury for what seemed like hours. To be able to let other road users know that I was in a genuine situation 'could' have enabled me to get to the hospital sooner.

As a side note, I also wonder whether at other times those people that are driving at v. high speed (i.e. 100mph +) past me are also genuinely needing to get somewhere asap. To have a means of indicating this to me would at least temper my inbuilt rage at being cut up at times ;-)

At the end of the today however, I suppose that any such method is liable to misuse......

I don't want to labour a point, Cliff but in the early 1980's Bronglais had 2 experienced orthopaedic consultants with good junior doctor back up who could repair tendons, even on a patient taking Warfarin to thin the blood, which would be partly for the anaesthetist to deal with anyhow.
What has happened over the past 25 years to reduce Bronglais to a mere staging post where such work has to be transferred to Swansea?
What next, downgrade the Swansea hospitals so that such work requires a transfer to Bristol?
You guys living in rural areas should be fighting hard to preserve your local specialist services or lives will be lost.

Hi there, first post here.

My turbo seems to hiss very loud when i reach 3rd gear (like a noisy hairdrier!) and onwards and it seems to pull away very slowly, its not as noisy in 1st and 2nd gear and seems to pull away normally in these gears. It sounds like the turbo is working fine but there must be a major leak somewhere but as this is my first turbo diesel, and i have only had the car 2 weeks, i havent got a clue where to look or what to look for under the bonnet! (Dont even know where the turbo is!) Please can somebody explain to me what to look for and where to look as i have read most posts about turbo problems on all sorts of forums but im lost when it comes to measuring resistance of sensors etc like it suggests in other posts! Also, i only seem to get around 40 MPG, even on the motorway. Could the turbo fault be the cause to me using more fuel as the official figures say i should achieve in excess of 50?

My only other gripe with the car is the display panel that sits on the dash in the centre of the car. I believe this is the display that shows any faults / trip meter / clock etc? The problem is that it doesn`t work. Is there a fuse for this somewhere else other than the internal fusebox as all the fuses seem to be fine? If not, would i need a new display unit or could it be a wiring fault as it has had a new radio fit by the previous owner (was wondering if it was in any way linked to the wiring of the factory fit radio?)

Thanks in advance to anybody who can help me out, sorry about the long post!

Thanks A.S, i`ll check out the wiring behind the radio in the morning. Didn`t want to mess about with the stereo till i had a bit more info!
Don`t suppose you have any ideas on the turbo fault do ya? Driving me mad all this hissing i can hear whilst driving down the motorway!

Thanks anyway

I have a 2002 VW Passat TDI (130bhp)

I noticed on the drive home tonight that the temperature gauge was reading zero. I immediately checked whether the heating worked. It doesn't. The air is cool at best and on auto (climatronic) the front vents are pumping no air at all.

I have checked the coolant level and that all seems fine.

Any ideas please?

From Ultra Violet:

"Research just out reveals that more than three quarters (84 per cent) of female motorists drive whilst hungry. ... The top reason (given by 34 per cent of women) for not eating before getting behind the wheel, is that it slips their mind until their journey has started."

I'd better not say anything.

Hi

Car is a Rover 25 with approx 50k miles on it.Car has developed a misfire in every gear completely at random intervals. It is a friend's car.I had a quick look as I have a limited knowledge and found a hole in the centre section.I patched this with aluminium tape as a temp measure.I also replaced 3 of the spark plugs.Spark plug no.3 (2nd from right under coil pack) gave me a problem and I had to admit defeat. The rubber head of the lead remained around the plug and the rest of the lead came away.Plug no.4 (RHS) had oil around thread and electrode.

The car was put into a local garage today and they have said the head gasket needs replaced. There are a load of questions that I do not have the answers to overheating, milky oil etc but could a head gasket failure cause misfiring?

Should anything else be replaced at the same time? Read more
