Helloo.
The boot release button on my Scenic has stopped working. It presses in and out smoothly but fails to open the boot lid. There's no internal or remote release so I'm unable to establish whether it's the button mechanism or the closure catch itself.
Access into the boot for repairs is feasible over the rear seats but without opening the boot in the first place I'm at a loss how to remove trim panels/ locking components etc whilst minimising damage. Any guidance appreciated as garage claim unable to MoT without boot access and ticket expires in a couple of weeks.
Thanks :) Read more
Hi, I have a problem that has got worse in the last few days.
For a while the starter motor has not instantly cut in the moment I turn the key. All of the lights come on in the dash.
Tonight it has taken me 5 turns of the key before the starter kicked in, I have now decided to leave it in the garage and we will just use our other Civic until I decide what to do.
Short of taking it to the garage is there anything I could check or do?, would it be an easy job to replace the starter motor if that is what is faulty?. Is there a relay I could check.
Cheers Mal. Read more
£1000-£1200 should of course read £10,000-£12,000 :-)
I picked up my wife's 05 Micra from service and MOT the other day. No probs but disc pads said to be 65% worn. Mileage is under 10k. Does this sound a bit odd to anyone else? Read more
I had he misfortune to buy a car (MG metro turbo) with 7k on the clock which needed new pads and a clutch within a week. thankfully both done under warranty. I sold the car with 40k on and the pads still had well over half the thickness left. clutch was as good as new. sadly I heard that the new owner had a lot of probs with the engine. Might have had something to do with me running the tacho 'round the clock' when some pink fluffy dice tried to close the return gap when I overtook him. must have done 9000+ rpm
I'm might be jumping the gun a bit here, but has any one on here actually driven the new Legacy diesel?
I believe the dealers have had one for a day or so last month and are singing it's praises, but as far as I know they have not been available for test drives by Joe Public. Read more
As house sales are down 50% that's a surefire bet...

Hi,
I`ve been looking at the second hand car price guides.
I have 1 yr to run on a Class A unlimited mileage warranty from Ford Direct, how much would this add to the car if I wanted to sell it second hand over and above the recommended list price.

Might if it is an oil burner?, may sell it in fact.
...I believe it is called. For my new Hyundai 1.6 I am offered by GMAC (via the dealer) "equivalent vehicle price" for three years at about £500. "Purchase price refund" would cost less and I do not need "finance repayment" cover. As I haved not written off, or had stolen any of my previous 24 cars (apart from the first, which burnt to death spontaneously after 48 hours) I am sceptical. Comments on the value of such cover welcomed. Read more
There's a new car to roll the loan into. More likely the old loan is paid off at the time.
And if the car was in negative equity before then it still is.
Is it normal to take over a week for a Ford garage to source parts for a repair? My focus went in last Monday needing a new rear bumper, and as yet the parts have not even arrived.
In the meantime I'm driving an 08 reg Focus so of course I'm not complaining but just thought it strange that it takes so long for ford to source parts

Hi from a new poster on here. The centre console on my Vectra has a broken hinge and I'd like to replace the unit. Apparently the lid to the console can't be purchased separately and a new unit is approx £200 :-( Can anyone recommend an online parts sourcing site which they've used? Also, I'll need to get hold of fitting instructions - a manual of some sort I guess - my dealer has one showing an exploded view of the part but won't let me near it as I'm not keen on parting with the 200 notes..... One guy, from a Rotherham scrappie, was onto me with a Corsa rim 10 minutes after I sent a request in.
Rim was actually wrong width but new one sent and old one collected at no further cost.
Good evening sir, hope all is well. You have helped me out a lot with my car in the past and I thank you very much, remember I had the advance solenoid prob, and now the hesitation and holding back scenario. Before I sell the damn thing (or burn it) would you be able to provide me with some info. Basicly I would like to know as much info you have about my cars engine management system. Here's the vin code:

I wonder if you know the functions of the maf meter, as far as I know the maf controls air/fuel mixture, but I have read that on my specific car it only controls the egr valve? I know the potentiometer on the throttle arm controls vacuum for the egr also because I tested this myself and all works fine there, I have infact disabled the egr now which helped my poor mpg a bit. I'm determined to sort this myself (with a little help of course) as other than this running issue the car's fine. Also would you know the resistance values for all the related sensors i.e. needle lift, crank position sensor e.t.c. I'm sure there's a sensor somewhere that is not providing the advance solenoid with the info it needs to provide the extra fuel it needs when on boost. Many many thanks in advance. Martin

From what I've read about my engine, it has a very basic ecu, it doesn't have a too big hand in the actual running of the engine. I've totally removed the TPS now and it drives the same as before. The problem I have is that 99% of the time the car will drive normally, but it will feel a bit down on power, like the turbo isn't working, then all of a sudden it will take off at super speed and it will drive like a turbo should until the engine settles down to idle again when pulling up to a junction, after this it goes back to it's usual sluggish self. I have no idea how the whole setup works on this thing, and I totally respect screwloose for his seemingly limitless knowledge of all cars, I can imagine that trying to help people like me with there problems can get a bit annoying sometimes.
Gis a clue boys and girls please for Daughter. Local independent dealer with a good reputation in all areas of his business. It is a Trade in from another dealer. 4 good boots, few marks as expected. Haven't been inside yet or under the bonnet. 1.4 or 1.6 I guess, but from a practical POV that is a little academic. 64k recorded.

Thanks to all. They are looking in Mondeo territory now.
What is the law regarding dealers and warranties? A separate dealer has said that he will NOT warranty anything under a grand. I understand this position, but what do the men in grey suits say?
Sale of goods act etc. Anyone?
