I have recently bought a very nice 1997 Audi A4 1.8T Sport which has every conceivable extra including leather and climate control but a cassette deck where I would expect to find a CD player.
I would like to upgrade it from the existing Audi 'Gamma' head unit to a CD player but would like to find the equivalent unit with a CD player. Does anyone know what I would need to buy so that it fits the bigger space in the dash and so that the display in the dial binnacle still operates and where to find one without going to the main dealer!!!
Thanks

When starting first thing in the morning, the engine never fires up first time - it splutters quite a bit, sometimes 2 or 3 attemps are needed to start causing a lot af smoke to come out of exhaust. Once started car is fine unless left for some hours then same problem. I've replaced the glow plugs and battery, had the fuel filter seal checked out - was ok. Replaced air flow meter and waste gate due to other problem.
Was told could be relay to glow plugs? Read more
I am having the same problem with my 2003 vw beetle. I wanted to know if you have found the problem with your car. If you have, would you please tell me what it was I am driving myself crazy and the mechanics are to expenisive.
I would like to give the car an oil and filter change.
Bought all the necassary parts and thought it would be a doddle.
Also bear in mind the last time i decided to do a service on a car it was fourteen years ago on a 1986 Fiesta.
The oil filter is easily accessable at the front of the engine.
I can guess where the sump is, but it is covered in a large plastic cover underneath the car. There are two pairs of bolts underneath the front bumper on the left and right side.
My question is: how can i get this cover off?
I'm hoping someone has done a service on this make of car and can help me or i'll have to throw in the towel and take it to the garage.
I suppose i could always burn it! No car=no problem :)

I used a flat screwdriver and a pair of long nosed pliers to get the plastic cover off on my car.
Use the screwdriver to gently get between the plastic cover and the sump itself and wedge it open slightly. Once wedged, get the long nosed pliers into the gap you've created and get a grip of the shaft of the plastic clip that holds the cover to the sump.
It should then be easy to gently prize the clip out without destroying it for eternity. Repeat for all the other clips, should be about 7 or 8 to get the panel to come away from the sump body.
And Robert is your mothers' brother.
I am looking for a decent honest garage for servicing, MOT (if Pos) in the Woodford, Ilford, IG post code or surrounding areas.

Just bought a high mileage (143,000) focus with zetec 1.6 engine.
Car is nice and tight.....only problem I can see is weak brakes and abs light showing on dash!!!!
I plan to service car next week ie: filters, plugs , oil etc.
Any pointers as to what I should be aware of considering the mileage?
Also am I right in thinking the oil for this model is semi synth 5/30?
Thanks in advance! Read more
Idealy you need a brake check very soon rather than latter before they give up, you could try these fast fit places don't the do a free check? you don't have to get the work done but you will know the problem, a bit cheeky but so what!
At that mileage in the past have done master cylinder/servo but it needs checking through..
After 21 years of sensible motoring I managed my first ever handbrake turn today. As usual I was turning the car round in the empty yard behind the wifes house this morning and as there was a bit of snow on the ground I decided to try it. Car went round beautifully, almost the full 180 degrees. I couldn't stop giggling for ages. Anybody else had any similar 'firsts' recently? Read more
Mum & Dad used to belong to a motor club that did lots of tearing around on grassy fields so I've known how to handbrake turn for ages. I remember the satisfied tingle I got when I did my first J-turn in an ancient Vauxhall Victor. The secret was to keep hold of the column gear lever because the combination of abrupt direction change and shiny bench seat made for a lot of fruitless arm-waving, barked knuckles and unintentional horn blowing. This exciting manoeuvre also used to be called a "brodie" IIRC.
Hello to you all,
I am wishing to store my MG MGF in my Garage for about 3 months can anyone advise me the best way of doing this? Ie to prevent build up of moss the car getting damp etc. My garage is in reasonable order is separate to the house. Is best to start the car every other week and get it up to working temp to keep things moving etc.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated
Thanks

OK you've got me panicked now, I'm going out to check on it....
on the 23 rd jan i was involved in an accident on the M1 just before the donnington turn off north bound, what happened a german registered artic (left hand drive) did a PIT manouvre on me and then t boned me for about 50 yards down the middle lane ( scared me and the old women half to death) we exchanged details blah blah blah, yesterday i got a quote from a vauxhall dealer for repairs and the chap at vauxhall said i would be lucky if i hear from them again or at least have to wait ages to get it sorted , has any one in the back room had any similar experiences ? thankyou

Aye - but it's owned by the Halifax so all cases of intransigence should be totally expected!!
Hi there,
Can anyone help diagnose a problem with our Diesel Rover. It has covered 92K trouble free miles it serviced and MOT'd in December and is not abused.
Today whilst happily driving on the motorway at a steady 60mph, in top gear, the engine started to feel like it was missing. It then started to make more violent misses and lose power and revs. We managed to get to an exit by dropping into third but then it would not go over 3,000 rpm (and missed the beat quite severely at times).
When we pulled over and stopped, the engine did a restart, still missing and then the engine cut out and would not re start.
Called recovery who checked fuel flow into and out of filter, said this was o.k. They suggested it could be an injector problem or fuel pump.
Has anyone any ideas for a practical sort of chap like me? Is it possible to fit new injectors? (although I doubt that one failed injector would stop a re start) Could it be the fuel pump? Or maybe an electrical failure?
My dilemma is - would it be cheaper to take my car to a garage or try DIY repairs in the hope of saving some cash?
Thanks for taking the time to look at this, any advice or suggestions will be appreciated

Many Thanks to All who answered, the car is now fixed! this was garage diagnosis:
Fuel filter blocked and some wires on the approach to a terminal block near the fuel pump had 'worn through' causing a short circuit that when it earthed was limiting revs.
The cam and auxillary drive belts were tired and also replaced as part of the repair.
I must say that when I got it back it did feel a much improved car!
Need to get four new tryes for my car but it is looking difficult finding any where to stop them :(.
Any ideas? Price would need to be include fitting.
It is only a 1.3 Endura Fiesta ghia but it has alloys which is what is causing the problem. Read more
