Hi. Can anyone tell me how to reset the service indicator on an 07 model van. Read more
Hubby is having an annoying and potentially dangerous problem with his Corsa. It has done it before, and we initially thought it could be fuel related. He changed filter and ensured never goes below ¼ tank of fuel incase there is any crud floating about that could be blocking the fuel lines.
Its been fine for several months now, then last night did it again. He's travelling along at a stready 70'ish, then it starts "holding back", then just cuts out completely - not wise on a dual carriageway in rush hour! As usual, he left it a minute or so, then started fine first time, was OK for rest of the journey home.
This morning he was ready for it, and low and behold it did it again. He now feels it seems to be about 10 miles into his journey, so we are wondering whether its electrical or temperature related. Fuel pump? Relay?
He has a day off tomorrow and would like some pointers on where we start looking. Any ideas please?
Thanks CM

Hi Guys and Girls,
When I switch the ignition on the glow plug light doesn't come on at all. The engine will start after a minute or so by just holding the ignition on, followed by a billow of white smoke! The glowplug light will flicker and sounds like its arching, but this only happens occasionally, not all of the time.
My theory is that its the glowplug relay thats gone, although I can't figure out which of the relays it is!
I would really appreciate someones help on this as its now starting to drive me insane and I'm concerned that this problem will cause lasting damage if not fixed. Read more

No wonder there are some good deals around on these at the moment....

Most of the US built ones are basically exempt from any kind of car designed statutory controls - eg fuel consumption. And because they are ladder frame and cart springs, cheap to make.
The fact that they are very popular in the US, have appalling economy and are huge accounts in large for the disastrous state of the US big 3 car makers. I believe the Ford pick up was Ford US's largest seller...
Rising fuel bills - oil now over $100 - should logically mean their demise.
Since when were humans logical?
We were talking the other day about the rich, the super rich and I suppose the hyper rich.
All through the twentietch century there have been people who have had unbelivable amounts of wealth, and some of them must have been car fanatics.
Does anybody know - has anybody ever had a whole car designed just for them?
I don't mean buying a Rolls or something and having it customised, everybody does that. I mean getting a manufacturer to throw their whole design team, tooling, a factory, what ever it takes, and making a one off unique car just for one very rich client?
I appreciate that would be expensive beyond eye watering, but there have always been people who could afford it, so I wonder if it ever happened?

In my reference above to a trip in an early RR 20 tourer I was
ten years out in assessing its age when I went in it (some time in
the early sixties). It was 40 years old not 30.
Not above, in another thread. Doh.
Will this stereo fit in my focus? I have seen a number of them now on ebay and I want to replace the stereo I git with it.
This is what it looks like.

If anyone knows any help would be appreciated.
cheers
Andy.

Bump
Main reason for buying my Honda CRV automatic was ease of entry/access due to a stiff back. Now find that short seat squab causes bad ache in right upper thigh and knee. Any recommendations please for a car which will overcome these problems.

The best seats I ever experienced (and I've driven everything from £500 hacks to 30k+ uberwagens) was in a hired bog standard Pug 306. We had this car regularly from a local small time hire company - we Christened it the Val Doonican special edition as the front passenger seat rocked on its mounts - brilliant motor.
The time has come for SWMBO to deal with the scrapes on wheels, minor but unsightly. So, before she goes to be ripped-off at the local dealers without preparation, she wondered did any of the cognoscenti here have any tips for sorting this out? Ideally, pointers to reputable refurbishers in the NW (Ribble Valley) would be very useful. I'd have a go myself, but I don't really want to skin my knuckles. Unless the cost is extortionate...... Bump. Rather apt, as we've had an earth tremor at 0105!
This is a general question which does not relate to any specific model or engine size of the Classic Vespa and Lambretta scooters.
These scooters of the 60s and 70s generally had static ingition timing. Can anyone please advise if, with the advent of electronic ignition, any provision was made for the inclusion of some form of advance/retard to the system?
If so, a rough outline of how this was done and if it was provided by the manufacturer or as an after market add-on?
Thank you. Read more
I had a Vespa in the '50s and my wife had a Lambretta in the '60s and they both had what I would call a standard 2 stroke set up. I now have a chain saw and various other implements and the 2 stroke set up is still the same except for electronic switching on the coil.
General question please, not related to any make or model.
Can anyone please advise if they know of any off-the-shelf tools for separating exhaust sections on cars? This assumes that the sections are well aged/rusted, the owner does not have access to 2 or 4 post ramps, oxy gear etc and does not wish to smash everything to pieces with hammers.
Thank you. Read more
Many thanks to all for the input so far.
As per the original post, the object of the exercise is to " separate " the socket joint. I seek to do this by pulling the two sections apart, without the use of cutting or impact tools. I intend to make up tools for this and have several designs in mind but wished to establish that there is not already something available off-the-shelf.
My searches so far having proved fruitless, would be interested to hear if anyone in the Backroom knows of any such tooling, or has perhaps used suchlike in the past.
Thank you.

No, it's the miles to next service indicator. After it is reset it will count back down to zero indicating a service is required. Thanks.
