Seem to remember a link to the dvla?? that once you put in your reg number it brought up when the car was last taxed and when it last changed ownership.

I cannot find it on their website and done a forum search on here and cant find the link either.

Does it still exist? Read more

As said the rac change of keeper details is basically useless (it is good to confirm a free model spec and cc check though before you do a full hpi)
Even hpi is bad if you depend on it for the amount of previous keepers as it is very often wrong

Hi all.

I`ve previously posted looking for a vehicle with seats that fold down into a bed, however somebody did post about just sticking a mattress in the back. Originally I didn`t like this crude idea but its now grown on me.

Now I haven`t drove for a couple of years so I would prefer something with a more car like handling, narrow so as to be easy to manouver in traffic etc etc. I also want to be spending less than a 2,000.

I have been looking at the fiat scudo/citroen dispatch/peugot expert. This is just long enough for a mattress (based on what vans maximum length of load statistics of 206cm) and seems to be a good solution to drivability especially in city traffic.

I`ve also thought of the nissan vanette (and LDV cub), toyota powervan, mitsubishi l300 and l400 etc.

So what would forum users advice be?

Thanks in advance

My old company had a Peugeot Expert 1.9 TD (XUD engine) which was used for lugging printer spares around, and doubled as a general dogsbody at weekends for whoever needed to borrow it to clear their shed / pick up a washing machine etc. It was a brilliant van.

40-45 mpg, car-like driving position, lively acceleration, cruised comfortably at 80-85 and smooth / quiet enough to drive a couple of hundred miles without getting tired.

This was a 98R plate which had 180k on the clock when I left the company and was still utterly reliable and drove well. Never had anything other than routine servicing and consumables AFAIK.

I currently have a Mondeo Ghia x 54 plate, I am thinking of selling this (anyone know how much its worth roughly?) its done 25k

A local garage has a BMW 530D Sport Auto with 85k on the clock, with a satnav/TV/Phone combo type thing for 12.5k, it looks in excellent condition and has a full BMW history, 1 owner etc etc.

is the BMW a good deal, I cant really find much on autotrader with a similar price. How much do you think the mondeo is worth? ( I dont have a cap/glass guide handy :( )

My new Grande Punto 1.9 Multijet has a Bluetooth system called "Blue and Me". It doesn't seem to work with my Samsung D500. I can pair the phone with "Blue and Me" but I can't upload the phone book, make calls or receive calls. Anyone else encountered this?

I had a D500 and loved it. Nice phone but sometimes, little design features got on my nerves. I woudln't be surprised if the issue was with the phone rather than the car.

Hi there I own a 2000 Ford Mondeo 2ltr Zetec (no abs) and I was wondering how feasable it is to upgrade the rear drum brakes to discs and also whether there are any worthwhile upgrades for the front brakes?

I find that the brakes are ok but if there are any good upgrades I would like to know as I feel they could be improved.

Many thanks!!

Hi, I need some advice on which is the best car to buy out of a Nissan Primera 2.2 diesel New Shape 02-03, Nissan Terrano 2.7 diesel 2000-2001, Vauxhall Signum 2.2 diesel 03 or a Ford Mondeo TDCI. I need a diesel because we also do caravaning holidays and need a car with good torque. Any advise would be truly welcome. Read more

Brother has a diesel Terrano. Noisy, rough unrefined and 30mpg at
best.
Frankly my view is anyone who drives one likes tractors..

Mainly because it is designed as a true 4x4.

You want a Chelsea tractor, buy a Rav4 or CRV (or X-Trail). You want a proper 4x4, Terrano is one of the options.

Toy 4x4s should be banned anyway -- people who are that obsessed with image that they buy a 4x4 to take the kids to school need rounding up and shooting. Nothing to do with saving the planet for me, more that I utterly despise the Prada clique, and would happily punch any "Metrosexual" (my brother included) in the face.

v0n, I take what you say on board -- I genuinely thought it was the dCi that was the problem engine, and I personally know two people who have had turbo problems with Primera dCis. Seems I was wrong evidently.

I concur. Although the photo accompanying the online article doesn't actually appear to be a 300C; a minor point and - whatever it is - it's equally hideous. Journo licence perhaps? Or shurley shome mishtake? Read more

Saw my first one for real today, in black. Front looks great, not sure about the back.

Around 5 weeks ago, I was in a small carpark, when a van reversed out of a space and rammed me across the back wheel.
The damage was minor and confined to the bumper edge and wheel's paint. I exchanged name, reg no. and address. It was a private carpark to which the public has access.

As it was the third party's fault, I decided I would claim through the insurance.
My insurance is with swiftcover, who do all communications through email.
The car was booked in with their approved repairer as they say you have to pay £50 more excess if you use your own repairer and also, they won't pay more than £23 per hour labour and all sorts of other things.
I could already sense that things were a bit amateurish at this stage.
I went to the approved repairer, and was also given a hire car from enterprise car hire.
I expected the repair to take 3-5 days as it is as minor as you can have. After two weeks I paid the garage a surprise visit and they looked all worried and said that my car just had to be painted then it would be ready. I said well, that's all it needed two weeks ago, he promised it would be ready in 2 days time. When the two days were over, I rang them and asked what time I should pick it up and they said 5pm, so I dropped the hire car off at 4pm and then had a phone call to say the paint wasn't dry as the oven was broken, what rubbish I thought, and arrived 15 minutes later to find they had done nothing to the car for two weeks, other than do a few minutes of sanding of a small area of bumper, and painted the wheel matt battleship grey with runs in the clearcoat and sprinkled it with dust. I took the car away without paying £200 excess.

In the morning I contacted the insurance company who immediately sided with the garage saying that's why the premiums are so low, as we only pay a low rate for the repairs! I said that I wanted it taking to another VBRA garage and they said I could, but no garage would accept the amount they would be willing to pay.

I have booked the car in to a known garage who will charge £140+VAT to repaint the rear bumper (off the car - unlike the other place) and the wheels will probably need to be refurbished by a specialist.

In the meantime it appears the third party is an uninsured immigrant and when I reported it to the Police, they weren't interested as it was over a month ago.

It seems disgraceful that insurance companies can get away with these cheap repairs. I'm going to complain to the Office of Fair Trading, and I doubt taking the third party to court myself will result in anything except being shot or stabbed.
It just goes to show, being uninsured and uncooperative is the way to go.
Any advice welcome, and also a warning to others who may not have time to think when making a claim and end up with these terrible repairs that seem to be the norm these days.

I meant, they will have the car for 30 contiguous hours, not be working on it for 30.
Here is a pic of the two week's work....
