Hiya

A friend of a friend that works in one on the central government buildings that are responsible for 'Future Vison' have sevret plans to get britain driving on the right hand side in about 30/40 years.

IMO, this is not a bad thing as it would make it earier for us to drive in the usa and our euro partners!!! It would also benefit the euro drivers that come to the uk, especially those massive lorries.

Over the next few years, the Labout or Tory party which both agree with the vison are to start making mass produced cars with the steering in the middle. Then start making cars at affordable prices where the steering and foot controls can be slif over from RHD to LHD. in about 30 years time, all road signs are expected to be electronically controlled so the transistion will be overnight on a Saturday night and in late june when the weather is at its best and the nights are short.

The seems far fetched, but I have been advised the news source is rock solid.

However, it may never happen but the way things are going, and imo, this proposed (at the moment secret plans)will benefit all.

Hello.
Ive had a nice creaky noise on the rear of my focus estate for a while now and think it is coming from either the anti roll bar links or bushes.
I was just wondering if it is ok to spray the links and bushes with something like wd40 to see if this will quieten the old girl down a bit and if their is something that i should avoid as when i get going im a little slap happy.
Thanks for any advice. Read more

I always used to keep a bottle of old brake fluid (the stuff that had been bled out of the system), just for this sort of purpose. It would lubricate rubber (silicon?) bushes without harming them, and diagnose what was sqeaking. It was usually only necessary after a long dry spell, so it's probably not applicable.
Is it still safe to use on modern components?

Keep away from paintwork and hot surfaces!

Hi,

Just topped up with antifreeze 20 mins ago (correct grade for car VAG's own), started up engine spluttering for about 30 secs and just stopped. When starting just turns over. No lights on dash, plenty of fuel in and checked all plugs. Head gasket in good order. Any ideas so I can got out and try?

That is similar to what I was experiencing, started car after topping up AF and car was going b-b-b-b-b, yiu could rev it and it would not rev. Setting off resulted in stalling. Oh well just as well it is fixed now.

Strangely enough, the new fuel pump quotes ranged from £62+VAT from VAG dealers AND £78 all inc form a Leading Euro Motor Factor?

Wondered if any of you could help?.?

I?ve been asked by my insurance company (Budget) to provide details of the alarm/immobiliser fitted to my car (02 SEAT Leon 1.9TDi). When I asked my friendly local dealer they told me ?well, it?s just the standard one fitted by the manufacturer?. This, unfortunately, I already knew.

Budget, very kindly, offer a service whereby my car is inspected at a national outlet of some garage or other to determine the type of security devices fitted for a fee of £35. Or, I?m guessing, if I don?t take them up on this offer and my answer of ?it?s just the standard on fitted by the manufacturer? doesn?t satisfy them then my premium will increase. Probably by around £35.

When I completed the online form I?m sure I?ve indicated ?Standard Equipment? or similar when asked about the alarm/ immobiliser.

Has anyone been pestered like this in the past, if so what was the outcome? After already shelling out a fortune I could do with keeping my remaining cash in my pocket!

Cheers

Had the same problem with Budget, asking for the alarm immobiliser details, rang there help line, spoke to a nice man in South Africa who didnt have a clue what i was talking about, got a new certificate sent to me, unfortunately the letter attached to it asked the same question, wrote to them stating factory fit etc etc, sent it recorded delivery, heard nothing else.

I have just read H J's road test of the Colt Blue and, towards the end of the test ,he states that he can't understand why the car doesn't sell better than it currently does. Well, at £8500 I can think of one good reason and that is cars like the Suzuki Swift. The 1.5 Swift GLX can be had for about the same price and as well as a much more powerful engine, it comes with air con, so I think it is a much better buy. Read more

I had an old Mitsubishi Colt (V reg) which I loved. We swapped it for a Carisma because we needed 4 doors. The Carisma has proved dull but reliable. I was pleased to get a new Colt when my car was serviced though because I thought they sounded great value at £6k. I must say I was a bit disappointed by the car - tiny, tiny boot, very plasticy inside, couldn't see out of the back. I found the seats uncomfortable. The old Colt had a small boot, but I preferred the shape and it seemed nicer to drive. Maybe it is just the trend these days in the small hatch sector to have everything look like a mini mpv (the Micra I had on loan was similar), roomy inside but small boot. Having said that, it still seemed a lot of car for £6k. My local dealer was advertising them recently in the paper for £6k, so it's not just internet dealers who are doing them at this price.

By the way, I think we paid £8k for our 'V' reg Colt, new from a dealer. At the time this was a very good price - of course about a year later the prices of all new cars had dropped and it looked expensive. First and last car we ever bought new.

I've got some cheap carpeted floor mats in my old banger right now, but whenever my feet are wet and I rub them onto the floor mat the water is going right through and making the carpet underneath the mat wet. I'm concerned that this might lead to rust in the floor or something.

Now, I've been looking on ebay and would rather get carpeted floor mats than rubber floor mats, but I am not sure if this water leaking through issue is a symptom of all carpeted floor mats or if it is just the cheap ones that I have.

Also, has anyone bought mats off ebay? I am thinking of buying some at a lower price that are listed for other makes and models and maybe cut them to make them fit if they are the wrong shape. Read more

You did not say what car you had did you? I got mats with my Mondeo via leaseplan and very poor and did not fix to the points on the floor in driver's footwell.

Armed with the knowledge that I could sort this via expenses went to Ford.... and they had an offer of proper Ford mats for about £20!

Bought up and tried claiming. Got the money but since original mats from leaseplan now slipping would have paid anyway.

You might be surprised what they cost. Depending on make they could be fairly cheap. Mine came with fixing "screws" (not really screws .. more plastic threads) but not needed 'cos the Mondeo had them in the floor carpet already.

Most factors will recognise them as R12/H4

Ask them for a R410 halogen conversion. Any body with any knowledge will be able to identify it and source it.

OK, I have check the Haynes manual which says to use "transmission fluid to Ford spec. ESD-M2C 186-A" for the 2 litre, and 75/90 for the 1.4,1.6,1.8... and the valvoline lubricant advisor reckons SAE 75/90 gear oil for the 2 litre. What is the difference and which should I replace the current lot with? Read more
