Hi
Does anyone know when the TomTom RDS-TMC receiver is due in the shops?. I emailed them in June and told "we don't know when or how much". It is now appearing on sites Argos etc.. but still not in stock. emailed Tomtom again and no reply as yet (1 week ago). anyone have any more information as to a definite release date, sick to death of the GPRS charges I incur with traffic at the moment!

cheers.

My experience of dealing with TomTom "Customer Support" is pretty dire. I also object to the way that they are evasive about the age of their map data - when you buy TomTom maps you're never sure how up to date they are ('not very' is my impression).

About to take delivery of an Eos 2.0 FSi. Is it worth using Super unleaded in it or are they quite happy on standard unleaded? Read more

Will try it and see how it goes - will only do around 8k a year so additional cost not too great.

Strange that Tesco do not sell 99 octane anywhere near us (South Staffordshire) - looks like Chesterfielld or Coventry are the nearest - both around 30 - 40 miles away!

Hi,

I hope someone can help me... Im out of ideas now.

My girlfriends Clio has developed a severe hesitation problem when under load, this problem only manifests itself when the car is "Stone cold" after standing over night for example, if driven after leaving it for the day at work it is fine.

It is a bit worrying when trying to pull out at junctions etc, as if you are not quick with the cluch & accel then the car stalls, It has got to the point where she wont drive it any more, so we have had to swap cars.

So far I have replaced the following:

Plugs, Leads, Dizzy cap & rotor. -all where past their best.
Coolant Temp sensor.

I have also checked the resistance on the Idle stepper motor(bottom 2 pins), and it seems to be within specs, 1-2 ohms when the throttle is closed and open circuit when the throttle is open. There is a small extention block between the Harness and the idle stepper motor, which appears to be a straight through connector, except that the second pin from the bottom is open circuit. I have tried removing this and the problem remains. What is it?

The idle seems to be fine, it is rock steady at just over 1K when cold & 1K when warm.

the only other thing i can think of is that there might be a bad earth, and im going to check them tonight.

If anyone could shed any light on this is I would very much appreciate it.

Regards,
Scott. Read more

Hi,

I jhave checked and the car is a 1994 1.4 RT 8V. With single point injection... Not sure what engine

IAT, I will check this at the weekend when I get a chance to look at the car in the light, likewise with the manifold heater.

What's a "Manifold Depression sensor" when it's at home? Is that a Renault term for a MAP sensor?

I have checked the idle switch and it appears to be within specs. + the idle is ok, it only bogs & trys to stall when you pull away, And only when cold. Im going to pull the stepper and check it is ok just to be on the safe side though, as apparently they play up quite often.

Looks like im going to have a fun weekend ahead of me!

Cheers,
Scott.

My car was originally almost £40k in September 1999, and I thought I might p/x for a newer model (from the same garage), they offered me £3,500 for mine!!

Even Parkers put it at between £8 and £10K Trade in.

I'll certainly be keeping mine now, until it falls bo bits, but wonder why the dealer would offer such a low price. I think it might be that it spends more time in their workshop than on the road!

Glad I got that off my chest. Read more

That's what "Volvo for Life" means then - you're stuck with the wretched things forever.

A driver was shocked when he got a parking ticket - and that yellow lines under his car had been painted while he was parked.

One break means that there is no parking restriction over the remaining length of the yellow line. Yipeee!!

To the idio- er, person selling their car on eBay. Don't take a picture of it with an England flag attached and fluffy dice hanging from the rear view mirror. I'm sure it's no one here, I just wanted to point out the blindingly obvious. (Item number: 140035921194)

This Car Is In Dayly Use And Drives Superb. Due To A Problem, I Cant Load Any Pictures. <-- maybe they are library photos? seems a bit of a half-hearted effort to sell a car. (spellcheck at least please!!)

A warning to all you fishermen out there!

around a month ago I went night fishing, and caught a few bream, which any angler will tell you are covered in smelly slime.

By the time i got home it was about 2am, and since I was pooped, I couldn't be bothered to put my gear away properly. I took the net out of the boot (so it didn't smell out the car) and casually chucked it on the bonnet.

When I romoved it the next day, there was a nice little net pattern on teh bonnet. Never mind I thought, it is just slime and will wash off. It didn't though.

Never mind I thought, it will polish out. I finally got round to polishing the car yesterday, and guess what, it won't polish out. I will try a little T cut, but if that doesn't work, I will have a permanent reminder of my fishing trip!

Try AutoGlym Paint Renovator - that successfully removed bird muck marks from my daughter's metallic black Ibiza.

However, if you've only ever used T-Cut before then go careful with it - it's a lot more abrasive.

Firstly, I apologise for bringing up something that has probably already been discussed many, many times before.

On Sunday we went to the shops at a local retail park. We were early and the car park was fairly empty so I parked in a space that had no cars on either side as it makes it easier to get the baby out of the back. We came back to the car 15mins later (we wanted to go to another shop) to find a blue 206 parked next to us and a matching blue scrape mark and a small dent in our passenger door (from where they had open their door). It was quite windy that day so I guess that the wind may have caught their door as they opened it, and as the doors are quite long you can guess the rest. We waited around for a while to see if the owner returned but they didn't.

So I left a polite note on the car and noted the time, date, reg number of the car and even took a few pics.

If the owner had left a note or come over and apologised I would have said not worry as 5mins with some t-cut would sort out the mark and I could live with the dent.

I'm not the sort of person who is going to waste a large chunk of my life on this but I would at the very least like to make the owner of the car think twice about this in the future.

So what can I do about it? Read more

2nd guess was correct - bet it was the wheels that gave it away ;o) It is a Prelude, and the damage seems to have got almost all of the curvy bits and accross the door. still, I have a client who has a bodyshop so they are putting a quote together for the work, and they do do good work (or have done in the past for me anyway).

Not necessarily. You just accept.
They used to say 'if you can't afford to buy it when it's new, you can't afford to run it when it's old' but I think there's a time in between when the economics - depreciated price v running costs - can make it sensible to buy and enjoy.

Just driving into work this morning I noticed that the temp on my golf rising and dropping.. Typically it'd drop to just above the 70 mark on the motorway and then rise to it's normal (just below 90) in standing traffic. Before I noticed this, the temp has always been static at its normal and once risen it's does not really move regardless of weather etc. Thermostat etc working fine as fan kicks in OK when stood in traffic a while.
Will check the levels etc later on, meanwhile has anyone got any suggestions please ?
thanks Read more
