Ah, now I see, the disintegrating injection components dump the bits back in the tank, via the return, then they get recirculated into the filter when the fuel comes round again (that's me one step closer to becoming a diesel expert).
;-)
How would you know if there are metal bits in the filter though, they are solid cased, not like the old see-through glass filter bowls of old.

Apologies to sideshow, er.. I mean diesel Bob.

Why does a car with manual gearbox whine when driven in reverse ? You know what I mean ? ...... the type of noise (from the gearbox ?) that you get in reverse but not forward. Just curious. Read more

>>Incidentally, why don't autoboxes have straight-cut reverse gears?

Because they don't have dedicated reverse gears (or dedicated any gears come to that!) as such.

The gears in an automatic gearbox are typically a cascade of two sets of epicyclic geartrains, and all the ratios are produced by varying which parts of the geartrain are driven or held via hydraulically controlled clutches and brake bands. So, in an automatic, typically, all the gear pairs are involved in producing all of the ratios at different times, and you can't point to a gear and say that's 1st, 2nd, 3rd or reverse, like you can in a manual 'box.

I have found this forum very informative and wonderd if anyone could help me with this problem?
I own a 92/93 Espace (petrol injection). Shortly after starting from cold, the rev's rise and fall constantly, when I set off there are flat spot's. When the engine is at normal temp there is not a steady idle and there are flat spot's between 2/3000 rev's.
I have replaced the water temp sensor to the ECU,plug's and dizzy cap and air filter. Still doe's it. Could it be the intake manifold gasket?
Any advice would be welcome.
