Are they mad ?
As if things weren't bad enough for them Ford have now paid BMW £6M for the Rover name.
I think it is aimed at protecting the Land Rover name so it is not cheapened when associated with cheap Chinese Rovers. Read more
Folks, I appreciate I have sought an answer to this on a previous thread but I am really keen to understand where the statement that was previously posted about VAG experiencing substantial sales growth in the UK at the moment came from.
Martin Sweeney posted it so if you could Martin I would be grateful for a response.
I am looking for a link or reference to use.
It is important otherwise I would not keep asking.
Apologies for the repitition. Read more
Martin sorry - I have read the response on the previous thread - thanks for the pointer.
You may have read my other post re: buying an Audi A4. We have decided to keep my girlfriends old car and store it in a garage for 6 months for my brother to learn to drive in. Question is should I be doing anything special for this short space of time. WIll hook the battery up to a trickle charger and leave the handbrake off so hopefully no battery and brake issues when it is to be used again.
Should I change the oil (was done recently) and maybe run it once a week for 10 minutes to keep the engine going or is this doing more harm than good? Read more
We used to leave our 3 series for up to 6 months at a time (I think we did this on maybe 3 occasions), it was parked on the drive and literally just left there untouched for 6 months, apart from a battery charge, it started and drove away first time with apparently no ill effects, although the outside did need a damn good clean due to a large quantity if moss sprouting frome very crevice!

Do BMW do a 4wd version of any of their saloons or estates, not counting the X3 or X5. As I have seen 2 or 3 BMWs with an X at the end. One of these was an old 7 series, L reg and it was right hand drive and the other was a 5-series estate, also right hand drive.

Hi, hope someone can give me some info on this:
Im currently giving serious consideration to a 05 Mondeo Zetec TDci which has been imported into the Rep. Ireland from the UK.
Can anyone tell me how I could go about determining what manufacturers warranty period is remaining on the car. It was first registered 31st march 05.
The standard warranty in Ireland is 2 yrs unlimited milage. Looking at the ford.co.uk site, its not very clear what the standard warranty period is, as there are a number of warranty options available.
Ford Ireland ltd., tells me they will honour any existing UK warranty on the car.
Anyone got an email address or contact no. for ford UK so I can clarify the warranty period.?
I do have the VIN of this car.

Yes, but my point is that in the first year Ford have to comply with the EU Block Exemption regs and cannot refuse a claim based on the fact that the car has not be serviced by a Ford dealer. They have to operate within the legal framework pertaining to warranties. Once it goes into years 2 and 3 they CAN refuse a claim on this basis.
Looks like I may be getting an Audi A4TDi on 52 plate with the 130bhp engine with 6 speed box.
Will be buying it from my Dad as its curently his company car and coming off fleet in 4 weeks time and the company wants £3500 for it.
It will need MoT and will have done 110,000 miles or thereabouts and not long ago had a full service that was nearly £1000 as it needed a few suspension bushes and a couple of tyres.
Is this a good price or a money pit? Been looked after but dont want something to go wrong and cost a fortune to fix as its only replacing my girlfriends old Rover 200 and she doesnt do that many miles.
Any opinions really appreciated. Read more
I have a theory that your dad may be absorbing some of the cost of this car, he may have told you £3500, but no company in their right mind will let a car go for much less than it's market value. I'd guess that this car is worth at least another £1k at auction.
Even if I'm right, it's still a good buy, especially as you know it's history.
I'm with the majority here, go for it.
The bottom hose on my radiator colapses when the engine is cold - any ideas why?
I had the actual pipe replaced a month ago and discovered that it had perished quite badly, but changing the pipe hasnt made any difference and it still collapses when cold. Once the car has been running a few minutes it fills out normally.
The car doesnt overheat and as far as im aware, has no cooling issues, so its a bit of a curiosity as to why this is happening.
Car is a 1986 Mazda 323. {Added to subject header where people will see it without necessarily having to open your post first - DD}
Thanks in advance! Read more
The other thing that can happen is that the pipe to the overflow bottle can be blocked or the vent in the overflow bottle blocked. In either case, when the motor cools and tries to suck the coolant back in, it can't do it. The radiator cap vent may be ok.
Any help much appreciated as per usual.
I had a problem some time back where my golf would miss a few times intermittantly.
I replaced all of the plugs and the problem immediately went away. However,
Recently it has started missing a bit again, if its starts it lasts for only a few second but if you try to excellerate during this time the car is obviously not responsive.
When I replaced the plugs I did have a small problem with one of the HT leads which I repaired by crimping the end again.
maybe it needs new Ht leads ?
Please can anyone help point me in the right direction? If its important - The car isn't back firing, just missing a few beats..
Thanks

Good news, after having a look at the leads today, decided they all needed to be replaced. Spent a grand total of £22 which was for four Leads AND even treated it to a new dizzy cap.
Everything back to normal and the car is running a treat. Having seen how new leads fit I wonder how the other ones worked at all!!
Cheers everyone!

Say I have insurance, tax and but no valid MOT. Whats the likely fine/points, and is this picked up on ANPR?
I see you can drive a car blind and not get locked up so I suspect is going to be a slap on the wrist. Read more
ANPR can't check MOTs 'cos the computerised roll-out hasn't been completed yet. The local independent who does my car still issues me with an old fashioned A5 certificate.
Hello,
I have a knocking on a peugeot 307 hdi its a 52 plate.
it seems to be coming from the front end but this could be decieving, as when you sit on the drivers side it sounds like it is that side. but also when you sit on the passenger side it sounds that side too.
You can only hear it when you go over bumps, which leads me to think it might be suspension related. i have checked what i can think of but to no avail.
Any tips or pointers would be gratefully received.
Cheers,
Mark

checked the top mountings and they look ok, so does the anti roll bar bushes, and no sign of a broken spring.
where would be the best place to go for a free check up?
Thanks for the tips,

Not quite. BMW kept hold of Triumph and Riley but the rest (Austin, Morris, Wolseley, Standard, Vanden-Plas etc) was passed to MG Rover, and is now owned by Nanjing.
