my good lady currently has a 3 door black renault clio 52 plate 1.5 dci extreme. she wants something a bit faster / nippier.

her clio has done 43k and i think she could get at least 4k for it (please, people in the know give me a rough valuation)

she would like a clio sport, which i believe come in a 1.4 and 2.0 litre 172bhp. she would love a mini but its a little out of her price range. out of interest what could we pick up a mini for at auction?

punto's are out of the question for normal reasons and she had one before, dont Know too much about corsa's.

quite likes the citroen c3 (small one if i didnt put it in right) but do they make a sporty version.

seeing as you guys know a lot more then me, i would like your opinons/giudence/ what to look out for etc etc

thanks

hi, if you were to put a socket on the crankshaft puley bolt and quickly spin the engine over for a couple of seconds with king lead off to loosen the bolt, could you do any damage to the engine? this is on an engine where the cambelt runs on a seperate sprocket not the crankshaft pulley

I have done it several times on different engines. The trick
is to get a good fitting socket (preferably with just the
6 flats in it instead of the 12 point ones). The
arm attached to the socket needs to be as close as
possible to the crank pulley, no 5 inch extensions, etc. The
other end of the arm needs to be supported horizontally. I
usually put an axle stand under it. I also try to
take as much "play" out of the setup as possible so
that the first movement is applying force to the bolt. Usually
the starter only needs a quick flick of the key.
Take care, and if it doesn't work first time, stop before
seriously damaging anything.

I agree I've done it many times with Pug/Cit 1.9td and Ford 1.8td, but as it is said you must have no extension bar to the socket and use a impact type socket for strength. All you need is just a flick on the switch to turn 1/4 to 1/2 a turn of the engine just to loosen the bolt. I turn the engine in gear to remove as much slack as possible before using the starter.

marvellous! They obviously haven't seen a need to mark as "New Improved" or "Now 25% more grindy!"

I have a TR2 engined kit car and am having starting problems. There is a spark at the plug, I have checked the static timing at the dizzy & that seems to be ok The twin su carbs have fuel in the float chambers and you can see the fuel in the jets when you take the pots off. The carb pistons rise & fall freely & I've unscrewed the tops to minimise dashpot resistance. If I squirt easy start in the air intakes, the engine will fire only until that juice is used up. It doesn't seem to want to pull fuel into the engine?? The engine has not been run for maybe 18 months or more, could it be stale petrol? Any ideas? Dave Read more

I had the same problem with a MK1 2.4 Jag. I could never seem to get the timing marks on the flywheel to make any sense. Some time later, I had the engine out, and discovered the flywheel had been fitted 180° out.

Ta for that!

Actually i don't like the 206 version - they only come in 5dr which doesn't look that good and the leather is a yellowie sort of colour unlike mine which has lovely white.

£11K for a3 yr old Mini One is OTT - Coopers 3 years old can be had for under £10K from a BMW dealer

fly to Gatwick & hire a car
pity really, road journey should not be so unattractive, but this way you'll miss the M6, Birmingham, Coventry, the M1 (or M11), the M25 all the roadworks etc.
might even be a train or bus from Gatiwick, I'm not sure, I've not checked.

Citroënian {P}

Hi all,

I entered a competition a while back for some "special operations driver training" with Mazda - "Renesis". I've been selected an invited to the session in Edinburgh next weekend. Thing is, that's a long drive from here and they're still not saying what will be involved. If they're going to give me an RX8 for the afternoon and let me have some fun with it, I'll go, but I've a terrible feeling that it'll be ten minutes. Which would make the four hour drive each way a little less than rewarding.

Does anyone know what this event includes? They held one last weekend in Leicester, would appreciate if anyone had any idea of what was going on, would let me know so I can decide whether or not to go up.

Cheers

One of these events being held at Bruntingthorpe today.

Gazelle helicopter doing low passes, Fake machine gun fire and bangs. Awful lot of racket for what seems like a themed ride and drive day. Loads of people there so quite how much you can do in the half day you do wonder. Looked like fun.

Just avoid all those 56 plate thrashed RX8 and MX5's that will be auctioned off soon.......
