thanks in advance Read more
fly to Gatwick & hire a car
pity really, road journey should not be so unattractive, but this way you'll miss the M6, Birmingham, Coventry, the M1 (or M11), the M25 all the roadworks etc.
might even be a train or bus from Gatiwick, I'm not sure, I've not checked.
Hi all,
I entered a competition a while back for some "special operations driver training" with Mazda - "Renesis". I've been selected an invited to the session in Edinburgh next weekend. Thing is, that's a long drive from here and they're still not saying what will be involved. If they're going to give me an RX8 for the afternoon and let me have some fun with it, I'll go, but I've a terrible feeling that it'll be ten minutes. Which would make the four hour drive each way a little less than rewarding.
Does anyone know what this event includes? They held one last weekend in Leicester, would appreciate if anyone had any idea of what was going on, would let me know so I can decide whether or not to go up.
Cheers

One of these events being held at Bruntingthorpe today.
Gazelle helicopter doing low passes, Fake machine gun fire and bangs. Awful lot of racket for what seems like a themed ride and drive day. Loads of people there so quite how much you can do in the half day you do wonder. Looked like fun.
Just avoid all those 56 plate thrashed RX8 and MX5's that will be auctioned off soon.......

Hiya, I've been searching for a good deal on a car rental, all inc.
dates car required, 13/10/06 to the 17th OCT - pick up, between 1112 in the morning and drop off same place, same time.
A Range Rover is 495 for a weekend rate - can someone point me to a good deal for a 4X4 car, Range Rover, or otherwise for the dates mentioned for under 500 pounds?
Thanks Read more
Hello
Thank you all.
I thought I'd let you all know that I've booked a MPV - tried for the S Max - not avialable for rental where I live.
Bexley Ford offered a C Max, at 160 quid, inc up to 3 drivers free - but too small for our needs.
Then they offered an 05 plate Galaxy TDi, Zetec for 260 and up to 3 drivers, with 200 pound excess - I said it was not really what we were looking for - then I booked it for 200 punds for 4 day, inc accidnet damage waiver and 2 drivers.
Good deal or what :)
i need a new rad for my 88 1300 vw polo, cant really afford to pay a penny more than i need to , can anyone suggest any websites or highstreet places that are generally well priced? Read more
Try "fueltanksdirect" They do rads. Also Halfords used to be Serck agents.
Gone to change to cambelt on my 406 petrol turbo and the timing marks dont line up. Locking pin in the top pulley and the crank pulley is around 25 degrees out.
The engine runs fine and always has done, what on earth could this be?
Also having problems getting the aux bottom pulley off, any tips? Read more
Agree 100%. The later PSA IDI diesels were made with the crank locking hole in the flywheel to obviate this problem.
The only things I would add are - check the water pump very carefully (cheap enough to replace) and change the offending pulley. The rubber inside, which is the engine torsional vibration damper, is breaking up. Refit the crank pulley bolt with thread locking compound and tighten as detailed by PSA.

Hi all
I have myself a Rover 114 gsi Nreg. had it for two months now.
Came with a full MOT that was done at a reputable garage,.
Ever since ive had it, i get with certain bumps in the road, a knocking sound around the n/s rear of car. It sounds like the exhaust, but, ive looked all all over and under, and cannot find anything that can be making the noise....Its driving me mad!
Has anybody had this trouble? or can point me in the right direction.
Cheers Read more
Thanks Culmhead, i will certainly try that as soon as i have half an hour.
Johnny.
I read in today's Telegraph that a man has just recovered his X reg. Focus after parking it in a Milton Keynes housing estate and then forgetting where he left it - last February! It was finally reported as abandoned by a resident (two neighbours had assumed that the Ford parked outside their homes belonged to the other).
This amused me, but then I recalled, many years ago, driving up to London to submit a painting to an exhibition. Not wanting to drive through central London, I left my frog-eye Sprite at Merton station, and carried on by train. At the end of the evening I caught a train from Waterloo to Salisbury, and only after frantically searching for my car at the station car park, did I remember it was at Merton. Off to Waterloo by the next train, and out to Merton to collect the car...
Any other stories of 'lost' cars out there?

From another angle:
Many years ago went for an interview in Warrington. Came out and some lowlife had mercilessly blocked me in to the agency's carpark. I opened his door (using a method best left unmentioned but that did no damage). Off with the handbrake and rolled it a couple of hundred yards down the (fortunately dead straight) road and left it it there.
I often wonder what the owner thought when he came back.

Hi
I have a 94 Pug 306XN which often stalls when I take my foot off the gas or when I gently press the gas pedal when idling, the diagnostic light doesn't come on in these circumstances.
When my foot is off the gas, the idle stepper control motor often chatters & if it stalls will continue chattering.
I have changed the spark plugs, fuel filter, air filter, timing belt and cleaned the Bosch single point petrol injection components, to no avail.
Does anyone know what I should try next ?
Thanks

Thanks for everyone's advice, I have replaced the coolant temperature sensor (£17.77), it didn't appear to make any difference.
I have just taken the idle stepper motor out, which took me ages, due to 1 torq screw which was stripped, I finally got it out by cutting a slot with a hacksaw blade & using a screwdriver.
I checked the microswitch which appeared okay, cleaned the contacts by using a 21w bulb connected via the switch to the battery, as suggested in an earlier thread & sprayed fuel injector around the piston.
It is much better but still stalls occasionally when I gently put my foot on the gas & the idle stepper motor piston still moves in & out a lot whilst idling, if it persists, I will probably buy a new idle stepper motor for £59.65, unless anyone has a better solution?

My son & DiL bought a Cooper, 1.5 yrs, 12,000 from BMW Dealer about 1.5 years ago at £10,500 (haggled from £11.5K)
(now 3 yr old & due MoT Next month)
£11K for a3 yr old Mini One is OTT - Coopers 3 years old can be had for under £10K from a BMW dealer
