I've just noticed that this mounting appears to have come adrift. It appears to be fixed at one end to the front subframe via a rubber mount but the end attached to the exhaust just past the right angle bend appears to have been welded to the exhaust pipe and this joint has failed so the mounting bar is just flapping around under the car.
Do any backroomers know whether this is this easy to fix or am I going to have to buy a new front pipe?

they all broke here at some time, ive had many that have been fixed with a large jubilee clip ,but a re~weld would be better ,dont think a fitter would do it for a £5 any more though think those days have just about totally gone (no offence bigtee )
It does need doing soonest or the flexible joint on the front pipe will break by the way.
Took a trip down the M1 yesterday and at one point was left standing by a Lexus 300. It was an 04 reg and was leaving a trail of smoke like the red arrows! He eventually caught up with another car and slammed on, this was followed by a huge plume of smoke leaving the exhaust, when we passed through the cloud our cabin stank of burning oil. It looked like this car had had a hard life from leaving the dealership and at less than three years old looked almost ready for the scrapheap. Read more
Not sure about Yugos, but the Ladas are pretty tough and take abuse, just unpleasent to drive.
Incidentally, there is a Yugo Sana on ebay - must be the last one left - and even I will breath a sigh of relief about that, much as I love 99% of cars in their own right, the Sana falls into the remaining 1%!
Back in June, I replaced the brake pads on my Ford Ka with EBC uprated pads (as suggested in the CBCB) (see also www.honestjohn.co.uk/forum/post/index.htm?t=41866 )
Since then, it seems to me - though I have not done any testing under controlled conditions :-) so it may be my imagination - that braking has been significantly improved. It's not that it is now brilliant. It's just that it has been quite acceptable.
So - is fitting uprated brake pads a cheap, simple way to improve the safety of many ordinary cars? Read more

Hi. Was wondering if someone could help. My 1997 Polo was parked in a residential street when someone decided to kick the wing mirror off while going past. MIndless violence as they didn't smash the glass or take anything. The whole unit was on the floor when I found it. The wires seem ok. The mirror itself is cracked and I need a replacement. Any ideas as to how much I should pay to have this done. Added complication is that my car is silver and the wing mirrors were colour matched. How much will that add to the cost? I live in Liverpool so any recommendations of a decent garage would be gratefully received. I have tried the Corkhills VW dealership on in the past which I found to be expensive.
Thanks

there is a bit of a changeover on the grilles on this year and your man is probably looking in the sel .imperial book and he is just making sure he is quoting the right price.

I think it is fair to say that the majority of you lot out thier tend to look after your motors. I work at a major airport maintaining aircraft .
I feel i have to warn you against airport parking . you may be tempted to pay extra for parking were the company take your car from you and place it in secure parking. First of all they do not always use any more secure parking than if you had parked the car yourself. Secondly and more important is the way i have seen the the cars treated when out of sight of there owners . Reving a cold engine very hard seems to be a favourite, closely followed by wheel spinning. Out of horror i have personnally challenged these people but they dont care .
My advice is you park the car yourself and take the keys with you.
Be warned... Read more
You're on the ball DD aren't you?
Well, google was actually ;o)
I hope the mods will permit this one.
For professional reasons I'd like to make contact with a manufacturer of sat nav systems to explore a possible joint venture on behalf of a client of mine.
If the mods are OK with this could you email me via the mods - mods, let me know if there's an easier way for you. Read more
Mods, ignore my message above - we are now in direct contact.
Is there any reason why manufacturers do this? Surely it would be best off driven by the aux drive belt, leaving the cam timing belt to do just what it says - keep everything in sync.
I can't see the aux drive belt being hard to keep correctly timed as long as everything was designed properly.
I can't see any money saving issues as the aux belt needs to be there for PAS, A/C, etc... Read more

Hello,
I am thinking of buying a yaris or a aygo ( cant decided).
The Yaris I have seen is the basic model and so doesn?t have central locking, electric windows or a cd player.
However the car I have at the moment ( a Y reg punto elx) has the central locking, electric windows and a cd player.
Do you think I will miss the electric windows etc ? Has anyone experienced this ?
To be honest I?m not really into cars that much, but just asking because I don?t want to buy it and then wish I hadn?t
thanks

u will miss it all
I missed it too. Years ago I went from a Pug 405 with electric everything, to a Golf with wind-up windows and key operated central locking. Only small things but I occasionally found it inconvenient; used to tell myself not to be lazy, but also thought to myself "why have I taken a backward step with this 'new' car?".
But then I'm a bit of a car nut; if you're not really into cars then it might not bother you as much?
Rich.

I don't know. Maybe it will go off after a number of starts.....but if you have posted here, perhaps it has not ?
Maybe you can check the passat forum, in the european bit and find someone near you who will reset it.
