On the M25,on Sat, in no particaular hurry so doing just 65 in the 2nd of the 4lanes, but after a while I looked in the rear view mirror to see how many cars were still in the outside 2 lanes going slower than I had been, and yet lane 2 was basically empty.
Don't get me wrong I wasn't undertaking I just choose to drive in the least populated lane and refuse to slow down to blend in with the WEEKEND motorway drivers, most of whom only visit the inside lane upon entering and leaving the motorway.

I have often considered installing a diesel storage tank at home considering the possibilty of less, (or no fuel) available, the more the middle east countries keep beating each other up, which of course will never end. Two points come to mind. 1. What is the quality of diesel likely to be in this situation and would there be a preferred source? 2. Does diesel go off?

Hi,
I was wondering if you guys has any idease (i'm useless when it comes to cars), however i was driving home from work yeturday and on the motorway my powersteering suddenly became really light!!
And after a little look e.t.c. it looks like there is some 'give' in the steering wheel, i.e. i can turn it for roughly an inch and nothing happens, this where it is seemingly light!!! Once i feel the steering kickin its fine, but it is just a little disconcerting, i'm wondering if anyone here has any advice on the subject!
Thanks Read more
i assume that your escort has an ecu connected power steering pressure switch? i would get this checked out straightaway if i was you, if only swapping it for one from a breakers and trying it if monies tight.
I test drove a new Octavia today and thought it was brilliant with the build quality and refinement of an Audi, supple ride and great handling.
The 1.6FSI engine was weak and I definitely favour diesel. I also want auto.
The 2.0 TDI gets too pricey, so the obvious choice is a 1.9 TDi (105) with a DSG. Unfortunately, on doing a forum search, HJ asserts more than once that the 1.9 with DSG is a poor match.
Any other views and experience of this combo? I am driving the very model on Monday with a view to doing the deal, but would appreciate comments before I do.

I found the 2.0 TDI 140 to be very refined compared to the 1.9 TDI PD 105. In years to come I bet it keeps more of its value.

Been watching television all night heard a noise outside 2 cars had pulled up and there were 6 men in t 2 cars 2 got out and used my house as a toilet i shouted for them to move and when they finished they went one of them using the wifes car to prop his lager on as they went,i have done a vehicle check via the dvla website on one of the vehicles and the tax ran out in january.
I have rung the local police to register my complaint and the switchboard i spoke to in my town advised me that although it is anti social behaviour there was nothing i could do and nothing they could do ,i asked if i could report it at the police station tomorrow morning and their words not mine was "dont bother" your wasting your time.
My question is if you drive round on a night drinking and being antisocial its alright so long as you dont knock anybody down? Read more
And now back to motoring discussion please.

Drove 600 odd miles today from Scotland down to England and saw some "fascinating" driving, including swerving in and out of traffic at high speeds as in computer games and tailgating like no tomorrow.
Something that was new to me was the use by some drivers of the hard shoulder in traffic jams. Individuals speed down the hard shoulder with both hazards blazing or just one indicator on, and exit at the next junction instead of waiting for the queue. The final thing i saw today was a man driving at 50 down the A40 on a rim. He only stopped when sparks were coming off the back and a few driviers blocked him into the hard shoulder.
I am truly amazed as well as utterly shattered,

You're right you know.
Was in a black cab yesterday which had pulled up at the traffic lights Holborn/Grays Inn Road. Next to us a was a white Vauxhall estate car. The driver of the estate was so......ahem..........large that he was actually laying down. How on earth can someone drive in that position in a safe manner? Read more
The latest "laid back" trend I've spotted are drivers steering with
the palm of their hand whilst turning around their vehilces.
Everyone with power steering does it, don't they? It's the obvious way for slow-speed manoeuvring. It goes with letting the wheel spin back through one's fingers, as exemplified by London cabbies.
Don't worry - I haven't bought one! I do need a manual though, and despite searching the Haynes website, there doesn't appear to be one.
Might it be under Suzuki? What as?
Anyone else know where I can get a manual similar to a Haynes if there is no Haynes manual?
Thanks!

How many CDs? or is it on a DVD?
Sounds to me as though that is the space needed on a Hard drive to install it. In which case install it, you will hardly notice the difference!
(Assuming a modern machine with a reasonable Hard disc).

Dear All,
A Volvo V40 with heated seats. Driver's side works fine. Passengers seat appears to not heat at all. The light on the switch illuminates, and the connections under the seat appear sound and secure. Do elements burn out? Any other suggestions.....
Many thanks all. Read more
Check hand book for fuses / relays (swap drivers for passengers to test)
Unplug the element and check for power at the plugs. Aldi have multi meters for £7 if you don't have one

This kind of driving isn't just the weekend drivers; I see it every working day, a specifc example M3 J11-12 southbound around 5:30 pm. I rattle along in lane 1 and almost always reach J12 before the 'drive up yer bum' merchants in lane 3.
