How laid back can you be? - tack
Was in a black cab yesterday which had pulled up at the traffic lights Holborn/Grays Inn Road. Next to us a was a white Vauxhall estate car. The driver of the estate was so......ahem..........large that he was actually laying down. How on earth can someone drive in that position in a safe manner?

Most that drive in that position feel comfortable, probably as you do in upright position, assuming you dont drive in this manner, your post suggests not.

My brother drives in same position without a problem-I dont agree with it but does so anyway and not so far had a accident

My mate used to drive like this until a van hit the back of his Mondeo causing light damage to the car and quite nasty whiplash to him thanks to his appalling position, he now drives in a slightly more upright position to prevent history repeating itself.

The latest "laid back" trend I've spotted are drivers steering with the palm of their hand whilst turning around their vehilces. Looks sloppy. Only slightly worse than the chav's "Widow's Grip" of grasping the top of the steering wheel with a single hand (god only knows what the other is doing) and a locked arm.

Also the laid back position puts the neck at a bad angle and puts strain on the shoulders.Guaranteed neck and shoulder problems if they survive long enough.

I believe the laid back stance exhibited by some young people is supposed to be a bit "Gangsta" Rumour has it that originally in some rougher areas of the U.S. where shootings were/are common, the B pillar affords more protection from bullets.

The other thing that seems to have crossed the atlantic is driving along leaning almost as much against the drivers door as the seat. I can sort of see the reasons why in some US cars where the the long front bench seat is almost like a sofa as it is. But in a Fiat Punto?

Everyone with power steering does it, don't they? It's the obvious way for slow-speed manoeuvring. It goes with letting the wheel spin back through one's fingers, as exemplified by London cabbies.
