Hi
Does anyone know where to buy reasonably cheap motorcycle oil (2 stroke)? Halford's website shows these as £6 for 1 litre which seems a bit expensive.
Thanks. Read more

Dynamic Dave

Cheap oil may well turn out to be a false economy.

Cheap oil doesn't necessarily mean that it's of poor quality though. Take Mobil one for instance; on occasion places like Halfords have a buy one get one free offer - cheap oil, but by no means nasty.

I am looking for a second hand medium sized diesel. I have about £7000 to spend, performance more important than ecconomy. Not willing to take a high milage exfleet car though. Any opinions welcome.

A good diesel? Isn't that an oxymoron? ;-)

Just put a deposit down for the above car, was told its a Sport model by the garage. It can't be a sport model it has no allooy wheels, no fog light. Anyone please shed some light on this?

Have I bought a lemon?

Credit card has been refunded - confirmed with credit card company.

However, I received a letter from the Trading Standard stating that I can get their assistant if required. The Trading Standard and Consumer Direct provide excellent service.

I have told the Trading Standard that I have got my money back, so I'm happy ot close the file. Howvever, the Trading Standard was still very keen to take the detail of the contact at the Garage to keep record on file and including the car details. The trading standard said just in case the garage trying to make another sale to another customer (mis-discribe the model again), they will then take action.

Hope this also closes this long thread of discussion.

In case you are on the lookout for one, from this Thursday LIDL have a 3 way adaptor for cigarette lighter to run 3 accessories for only £2.99. Unlike others, it comes with a flexi cable as well. Read more

Isn't there a current issue with three devices on one adaptor? The cable will get warm in my car with just the Pocket PC and GPS unit charging, and the Pocket PC is barely getting enough power to charge.

Forum car alarms

Been thinking about getting a car alarm for my car cos i think mine has packed up.
seen some on the web and a few on ebay. the ones on ebay sound pretty good and quite cheap. i dont really want to spend loads.
any recomendations of a one to get and are they simple to install or what prices i should expect to pay from an audio place? Read more

SjB {P}

Although they might prove helpful as a deterrant, I have mixed feelings about the value of car alarms; as a case in point I followed a nearly new Citroen yesterday that had front and rear lights flashing and alarm siren wailing away. Nobody batted an eyelid, and most probably inwardly thought "what do you expect if you buy French?" before carrying on their way and worrying about more pressing issues such as what was for dinner in the evening.

(SWMBO drives a reliable 306 BTW, so this is an illustration; it is not intended to prompt French flamethrowing! ;-)

I've just bought an R reg 60,0000 mile automatic 1.6 sport version. Cam belt was changed at 40,000 receipt supplied does it need changing again soon? Any tips? Bernardo Read more

Was there a problem that required the cam belt to be changed at 40k miles? It sounds a bit early, as my Mitsubishi (Galant Estate VR-4 2.5 V6) required changing at around 60K miles (100k Km).
If 40k miles was the interval, then the next one should be done at 80k miles. One point is that on some Mitsubishi motors, the water pump (driven by the cam belt) and cam belt idlers should be replaced at the same time. This is because they are hard to get at, and often the new belt puts extra strain on them. This may not apply as your Carisma is probably a 4, not a V6, but it's worth checking.

Hi,
Just sold a car owned by the company on Ebay. The V5 shows the registered keeper as

Miss Louise CXXXX
(Company name) Ltd
Correct address

She left the company years ago

Please tell me I don't have to get a new V5 showing the company alone as registered keeper!

Advice sought please, my daughter was a witness to a nasty traffic incident involving a particular nasty individual,The police are prosecuting for 7 offences drink driving ,uninsured , unroadworthy vehicle ect.The individual has pleaded not guilty at the first hearing so witnesses have been called. This person also threatened my daughter at the scene of the accident. So she is rather aprehensive to say the least at the thought of being a witness against this individual. She has spoken to the court representative about her concerns, the solicitor acting on behalf of this individual has been given the names of the witneses-so easy to find addresses. Are the Police / courts allowed to give out this information? The court has advised my daughter that if she does not give evidence they will prosecut her for not appearing.
Any advise or personnel experiance in these maters appreciated

RB,

I really wish my answer to this could be anything other than what it is but this is reality and your family we are talking about.

1. If it was me I would go for it as I am no friend of the people who live in big caravans.

2. The police have everything they need to prosecute this guy. Your daughter seems icing on the cake. If they are too lazy/incopetent to do it properly I see no reason to put your daughter on the line to make up for their deficiencies.

3. I am well known on this board as being critical of the police and serving officers like MLC no doubt regard me as a fully paid up member of ACAB but law and order at every level has collapsed in UK. It is now the law of the jungle it will be your family against theirs and unless you have 50 male cousins under 40 I would not chance it. Any promises of witness protection etc will be just so much pink fluffy dice. After the case your daughter will be unceremoniously dumped by a system that just doesn't give a damn.

4. Be careful about what your daughter has said to the police or any evidence given in writing, she must not contradict this as if she does they will go after her like a rat up a drainpipe, Easy target see. Other than that meet with the CPS NOT the police and make it clear that if your daughter is called see will testify she saw nothing heard nothing and said nothing.

Sorry mate just not worth the risk.

Good Afternoon,

I realise this has been covered in detail before, but I can't quite get my head around it too well!

I have been offered a cheap Vectra on Cat C write off? Has been repaired and had a VIC check? It is a 51 reg for only £1500.

It has a brand new MOT, so i assume that it is all okay now? Would you buy it or is it going to cause to many problems in the future to sell or dispose of!

Many thanks

51 plate should be a Vectra B I think?

At £1,500 it's probably cheap enough as a run-around to last you five years - if it's been repaired properly and you're happy enough with the idea of a Vectra. If it isn't well done then it's £1,500 for a pile of problems.

As for the car being unsaleable - it may be possible to sell it on in a few years' time for a few hundred quid. At £40 a shot, an HPI check is disproportionately expensive given that so much of a £500 car's history is uncertain aside from its write-off status.

Can anyone explain to me what the little red panel on my cd/radio is. It looks like an infra red sensor for a remote control or something but my dealer assures me not. Can someone explain this please (not having the manual doesn't help).
