Good Afternoon,
I realise this has been covered in detail before, but I can't quite get my head around it too well!
I have been offered a cheap Vectra on Cat C write off? Has been repaired and had a VIC check? It is a 51 reg for only £1500.
It has a brand new MOT, so i assume that it is all okay now? Would you buy it or is it going to cause to many problems in the future to sell or dispose of!
Many thanks
Ian

Unless the car is at least 25% cheaper than similar model which isn`t a write off, then I just would not bother. There loads of staight models around. You will have the same probs when comming to sell unless you keep the model years so that the value is so cheap most buyers don`t even check to see if is a write off

Never buy a write off in any shape if you intend to sell later. Because you cant, no one will buy it. Simple as that.
Buy them to run till they die.

Cat C is a fairly hefty prang and as a result it will have been through a VIC and an MOT recently but unless you know what to look for then it will be prudent to have it checked out on a jig to make sure everything is straight and true.
Just because it has an MOT doesn't mean it's been well done, car could pull to one side, not been welded back properly etc. Following on from BobL i would say unless it was 50% cheaper than similar cars it's not worth it however it does sound cheap, possibly even too cheap!

51 plate should be a Vectra B I think?
At £1,500 it's probably cheap enough as a run-around to last you five years - if it's been repaired properly and you're happy enough with the idea of a Vectra. If it isn't well done then it's £1,500 for a pile of problems.
As for the car being unsaleable - it may be possible to sell it on in a few years' time for a few hundred quid. At £40 a shot, an HPI check is disproportionately expensive given that so much of a £500 car's history is uncertain aside from its write-off status.
