car alarms - adam f

Been thinking about getting a car alarm for my car cos i think mine has packed up.
seen some on the web and a few on ebay. the ones on ebay sound pretty good and quite cheap. i dont really want to spend loads.
any recomendations of a one to get and are they simple to install or what prices i should expect to pay from an audio place?

Although they might prove helpful as a deterrant, I have mixed feelings about the value of car alarms; as a case in point I followed a nearly new Citroen yesterday that had front and rear lights flashing and alarm siren wailing away. Nobody batted an eyelid, and most probably inwardly thought "what do you expect if you buy French?" before carrying on their way and worrying about more pressing issues such as what was for dinner in the evening.

(SWMBO drives a reliable 306 BTW, so this is an illustration; it is not intended to prompt French flamethrowing! ;-)
