I have finally got my 'free' Streetpilot c320.

Brandnew, sealed box, labelled as preloaded with UK mapping software. 3 CDs included for the rest of Europe. Powered up and it asks me for the SD card which presumably would have the mapping on it. Thge SD card is not plugged into the main unit, and I cannot find it in the box.

Am I going crazy? or is it hidden somewhere so clever that I cannot find it?

I have all the packaging and have not moved or thrown anything away!

I have spoken to Garmin UK who have offered to put a card in the post today, they never heard of the problem happening before!

I do qualify for the V8 software upgrade which will be sent once I have registered on line.

For future reference of any other searchers, the c320 can accept upto 2GB standard cards and does not require anything special as high speed versions etc.

I will close the thread once the card has arrived and is working.

Does anyone know if it's possible to change to steel rims instead of alloys.Mine are a mess and need serious attention. I've read somewhere that maybe Vauxhall are making an alloy 'lookalike'. Mine are 235/45/17 tyres.Any advice appreciated. Read more

Yes, steel ones can be had on ebay or from a Vauxhall breakers.
Try searching google (or what's left of it since it went to the dogs) for Allvox and Ultravaux
or you could just buy used alloys from the same places.

Hi guys. I own an R-Plate 306 TD estate. Since I bought the car the wipers have only worked on speed 1. I have lost Int, speed 2, and park.

Firstly I replaced the wiper motor itself, still the same. Then the stalk, still the same. Double checked all the fuses, checked the operation of the 2 black relays in the left hand corner of the drivers footwell, all ok. I then checked the feeds at the back of the stalk on the different speed settings 2 c if it was sending any power, this was all ok. I then disconnected the plug at the motor and checked my feeds there, only one ignition feed there which must be my speed 1.

I spoke 2 some friends of mine at a Peugeot dealer who seemed very confident that the fault was a blue timmer relay behind the fuse board. They also gave me the relavant wiring diagram that shows this relay 2b behind the fuse board. Off I went to check this relay and it was missing, but so was the loom/terminals that the relay should plug into. There is a black plastic bracket that the relay should sit in, I removed this bracket all together to make sure I had'nt missed it. Still no joy. My next plan was 2 look at another R Plate 306, I did this and went straight to the relay, it was exactly where it should be. I told my friends at Peugeot and we came to the conclusion that maybe earlyer in the cars life it has had a form of wiring repair and the Technician had not put this particular loom back in the right place. If I strip the dash down I will probably find it wedged somewhere it should'nt be.

I have since remove the dash and this loom/relay is not there. According to my wiring diagrams, the Haynes manual, other R REG 306'S, and Peugeot Techs this car should definately have a timmer relay. Its the 30 facia fuse board and its a 98 model with AC. No rain sensors.

Does anyone know if this vehicle should have a timmer relay? I know that some early models with the 13 facia fuce board did not have 1. Any Ideas in general about this fault would be appreciated.

Thanks. Read more

Go to machine mart (branches around uk) or most tool stalls on markets and ask for a fuel line disconnection plier set. In this will be a 8mm and 10mm quick fit pliers and a plier for GM/ Vauxhall and Ford fittings.
If you are careful, you can get by with a pair of needle nose pliers.

Hi

The windscreen pump on my wifes Ford Fiesta seems to work but no water comes out of either the front or back washes. The water bottle is full and I have pricked throught the wash jets and they appear to be clear, has anybody had this problem and if so does it require specialist help or is it easy to resolve?

Regards

Pound to a pinch it's the pump filter that's causing the problem. It gets blocked ip and won't allow any fluid through,if your fiesta is a 96 shape the filter is bit awkward to get at you have to remove the wheelarch liner to get at it.If you have to remove the washer bottle one of the securing bolts is only accessable from the osf door shut . Hope this is of help

I get on very well with my sister's boyfriend, who works in the motor trade doing MOTs and classic car restoration.

I'm also a great fan of the Jaguar XK8 (it's sooo sexxxy & voluptuous); in theory I could buy one but I'm too stingey to liquidate some of my assets. Plus it's not suitable for taking rubble to the tip; so I'm hanging on to my J-reg Volvo estate for the time being (I'm actually very pleased with this crate; it certainly meets my current motoring needs).

The gentleman knows of my affection for Jaguar XK8; and occasionally tries to sell me one that enters his business radar.

My question is this: How do I go about 'borrowing' one off him for a week-end flight? He might agree if I offered appropriate money plus got comprehensive insurance. The car would be in reasonably good condition (80,000 miles on clock?), though not concourse; might sell for 15000 plus or minus 5000.

Any suggestions as to how much to offer? Collect car Friday evening, drop off Sunday afternoon, travel about 300 - 500 miles. Also, any insurance suggestions, though could contact my current insurers and pay them whatever necessary to get comprehensive cover for week-end.

No idea on price- check a price guide. If from a main dealer you may have the assurance of some warranty and goodwill by paying a bit extra.
I find Rainbow, Rotherham, an excellent dealer and many others get praise.
Apart from checking on my comments above, also assess whether you can live with the powered/linked brakes (if fitted)I think they are superb but some may find them odd.

adverse camber

We have a 99 V70 tdi (the old vw 5 cylinder diesel).

We keep getting coolant loss, but its irregular. The car will be fine for ages then suddenly lose maybe a pint of coolant. There are no obvious leaks anywhere. hoses seem OK. In about 18months I have had to top it up 4 times. I keep an eye on the level regularly and it seems constant, but then (and its always on a morning) we start it and the warning light is on. Sure enough we are down again. I checked the level on Friday - fine. This morning, low.

All I can think is that the cap on the expansion tank might be playing up? It is the later green one (I know early V70's had a problem with the caps). Is there a suitable dye (like the A/C dye) that can be stuck in the coolant - or should antifreeze show up under uv anyway?

thanks

Having become an expert on this (Office hack days), worth checking or even replacing without checking the cap on the expansion tank. It looks innocent enough but can be faulty !

Hi there,it would appear that the immobiliser has failed on this vehicle.Anyone know if it is possible to disable it,and if so,how!!! Motor does not warrant the expense of an auto electrician, and local garage won't touch it(oh no sir, immobiliser way too complicated and we don't do electrics anyway!).Any help at all,be much appreciated!!! Defender, you are definitely thinking along the right lines!,however the immobiliser also cuts the starter motor.I have no idea what else it does, and don't want to spend the rest of my life running live feeds everywhere!!!Added to that, getting to the fuel cut off solenoid requires removal of the injector pumpp. There must be an easier way.I'm sure someone knows how...............

Happy Blue!

HJ suggests that the new Jeep Commander is better that the Nissan Pathfinder and would take it over a Disco3 unless he had to carry seven full size people. Fair enough. He then went to say that it was definately better than a Hyundai Sante Fe. I think that not so fair.

The Jeep is £30,000 whereas the Hyundai is £22,000, so you would expect the bigger, more expensive car with a new Merc Diesel engine to be a lot better. If so, why bother with the comparison? Why not compare with the Land Cruiser or Shogun?
