Some people don't know what polish even is. Me, well, I have in the past spent about 7-8 hours polishing every bit of the car. Read more
The poor woman killed by a stolen car on Tyneside the other day was killed by her sister's car - sister had reported it stolen only minutes earlier.

In the US if you kill someone in the process of committing a crime-i.e. running from police and you run someone over, the crime is murder-don't see why it isn't that here? Dangerous driving? So what, that's nothing compared to what he's really done.
Hello,
We'd like to go back down to one car from two again and chop them both in for a Picasso. Was just wondering if dealers ever take two cars in part-ex, or is it likely I'll be mega fleeced taking this approach?
Can anyone tell me the approx trade-in values I should try and expect for the following if traded together:
2001 (Y) Leon Cupra, 38kmiles, silver.
2003 (03) Nissan Primera estate 2.2DCi SE, 80K, gold.
Thanks
We'd like to get the 1.6HDi 110BHP Picasso btw. Any nightmares with this engine? Read more

As has already been said, dealers do take more than one car but just be careful that you're getting the right combined value.
Hi all. I would like your views on a situation I have been made aware of from a friend of mine.
Said friend brought a car from one of these supermarkets after they said they could "get her into a car that day" even though she had a bad credit history. The price on the screen was £7,999 but the total amount to repay was £16,300 won over by the car (usual story) she hastily signed (her problem!).
Now almost 4 years (and about 5 payment defaults) on she got a settlement figure of £10,297. Over 42 months (37 repayments because of the defaults) of about £260pm she has already paid for the car!
I have not seen the agreement but someone else has and says that she is right - yet she has recently lost her job and cannot make these £260 every month repayments yet they are thretening to take the car back and while she is happy to let them she needs it to get to job interviews and eventually her new place of work.
Sorry to rant on but it just seems so wrong, extortion? Repudiation?
Any help gladly passed on to said damsel in distress!
Cheers fellas.

Yes - sorry, I do it that's why (not for the
CAB though), it was intended as a joke. In fact it's
far more rewarding than paid work but doesn't pay for the
toys.
Yes, sorry PU - I realised you were joking - so was I, not getting at you at all. I didn't mean 'pro bono' - I meant 'quite a few of your peers yet to be identified as needing to pay their debt to society' - in the more usually understood sense! (And yeah, sure - a few of mine too!)

I foolishly managed to short circuit the connections in the car cigarette lighter socket after putting a metal tyre gauge in it.
The lighter no longer works.
The lighter, clock and radio are served by one fuse - which has not blown.
The clock still works. The radio works for a short period before turning itself off even when the power to the lighter socket is disconnected.
Have I fatally wounded the cars electrics? Can the radio be amde to work correctly again - perhaps if a new cigarette ligher socket replaced that which was shorted?

Brilliant! It was just that. A blown fuse. Many thanks!

Any bikers on this forum changed a head gasket on a water cooled bike before.
My normally reliable CBR1000F appears to have possibly blown its gasket. when it gets warm i'm getting loss of coolant thru a jubilee clip ( they've been checked along with operation of the thermostat)Drained coolant, there's no sign of oil in it, checked oil no signs of emulsion, i'm thinking gasket failure from water jacket to cylinder.
Anyway how much of a job is it to get the engine out, break it down, rebuild and refit?
Also whilst it's out i'm thinking about changing the camchain tensioner and doing the valve clearances, what about the camchain (32K) as it needs to be split(?) to remove. It's between cylinders 2 and 3.
Advice please.

Glad to hear it mate! Cheers!

My 'new' car has a cd multichanger. The problem is the sound from both front and rear left-hand speakers is very poor. I've checked the balance and that's set OK and the speakers are fine when in radio mode. Any suggestions please? Read more
Sorted. I checked the plug at the changer end, although it didn't appear to be loose after i wiggled it the changer worked fine again. Thanks for the reply.
I am about to change my company car and would really like a soft top with four seats so that Z4 is not on the list.
I really like the Saab 9-3 and the VW Eos but my company scheme works best when you choose a 2.2 to 2.4 non-turbo petrol engine and these two don?t make them.
I have had a look around but can?t find anything with the right engine size.
Any ideas?

- The Volvo C70 has a 2.4i petrol engine (170bhp) and I've not read about scuttle-shake anywhere. But how quickly do you want one? I paid a 10% deposit at the end of March and they still haven't even given me a factory build date! November earliest I was told back in April.. :-(
But you can find some dealer demonstrators for sale already if nearly new is a route for you.
I got in my car today at lunchtime and started the engine and everything was fine. About 2 minutes down the road, I noticed that both my LCD temp display and LCD Odometer display were both just a series of dashes.
On top of that I had a gearbox light on frost warning light on and a battery light on. Both my speedo and rev counter we both reading 0. Every now and again my rev counter would bounce up to the current engine revs and then settle back down to 0.
Later that day, I drove the car home and noticed that now, there were no extraneous lights on and the rev counter worked flawlessly.
My LCD odometer is still only showing dashes and the speedo is not working.
Once home I checked the battery with the engine off and it read 12.85v; fairly normal I thought.
I've yet to check any fuses, thought I make a post of my symptoms first.
Any help appreciated. Read more

I agree Mike - another way to look at it is when your car is a bit dusty, why doesn't the dust get blown off as you drive the car?
