Can anyone recommend a good independent VW specialist in the Corbridge or general Tyneside area? The person likely to purchase my Golf VR6 is moving up there and I'd like to give him some pointers, if possible. Read more

Just giving this some more exposure, as the deal is now agreed and the GOlf will move north in July. Any more suggestions?

OK - so mine doesn't play FIFA Soccer or even a simple mobile phone type game, but with a bit of imagination you may like to try this.

I have a Tom Tom sat nav which lets me play a preview of the route. Not sure if others do this, but they probably do.

Anyway the game is simple - Sat Nav Racing. Each night on my 60 mile commute I program the sat nav from the office to home (not because I don't know the way, I use if for more reliable traffic info). Partway through the journey I then tell the thing to preview the route home but starting back at the office. You have to set the preview to obviously be faster than real time otherwise it's just not cricket, but if you think about it when you select the preview speed, you can end up 'racing' the sat nav home.

I don't know whether any of you are as competitive as I am, but I feel like I'm racing a virtual car and 'could' be tempted to speed up a bit just so the thing doesn't beat me home. Bummer when it wins to.

Anyway - that's my entertainment shared. Any other inventions with these boxes of tricks ?

Sooner or later im going to have to think about replacing my Citroen C5. My problem is this; i want an everyday kind of car but my number one consideration is comfort. I need comfy seats and a plush soft ride. Sporty handling is of no interest as ive got a 140bhp bike to get my kicks. What i want most from a car is a compliant ride and big supportive seats. I drove my mates BMW 5 series (55 reg) last week and i couldnt believe how hard the ride was. So, has anyone got any recommendations or will i have no option but to buy another C5?
Cheers

Hi,

I am buying a new Focus and was interested in the dealers information on New for old Gap insurance until the car was 4 or 5 years old until the bit about the price came out. They wanted £500-600 pounds.

I can find similar products online, but non direct with brand named companies. Prices seem to be around the £173 mark for 3 years.

Who would you use and why?

regards

Baz

bazza there are insurance companies that give new car replacement at up to 2 years old as standard and after 2 years old you get the market value of your car so why do you need gap insurance when you can buy another car of the same age if you write it off ,you would have the price of the gap insurance to put towards a replacement if needed and if you dont need it you have not given that money away for nothing
over simplified maybe but that is how it is in hard facts

Now I know none of us will actually have driven them (though I could be wrong), but I do have several questions about the nature of them:

a)Which is likely to be more reliable?
b)Which will hold it's value better?
c)Is Peugeot servicing cheaper than Renault, typically?

I ask because in July/August I may be considering the pair as Focus-replacements. I'd be considering the 207 HDi (90) Sport and the Clio Dynamique dCi (86). With the reported increases in size I don't think the practicality would be hit too hard. I'd want it to be cheap and easy to run as possible (cheap servicing, best residuals, most reliable).

For that matter I'd also possibly consider the FIAT Grande Punto 1.3 M-Jet Dynamic (90). So apply the above to this one too if you have any knowledge...

Thanks,

All three of these cars are new models. I'd avoid them until they have been in production at least 18 months so any major problems are ironed out. If the 207 has as many problems as my neighbour's 307 (which he bought just after launch) you will soon develop a very personal relationship with your dealer, but your 207 won't put many miles on in the first couple of years as it will be sat in a dealership being fixed.

I'd be looking at something from Japan or Germany.

Can you help me... I purchased a used car on the 28th April. Before purchasing it an oil leak was identified and the agreement made that this would be repaired prior to sale. This was noted on the purchase agreement. I paid cash.

5 days after I took possession of the car, I noticed it was leaking oil again and informed them that day. However, they couln't book it in to be looked until Thursday 11th May. I received a call to say that it was a different oil leak!!! and that it required a minimum of 4 hours to strip it back and this would cost more than the allocated £100 in the warranty agreement. I was told to collect my car as it was safe to drive and just to keep a check on the oil levels!!

Am I wrong to not accept this? I have not collected my car from the garage as I assumed this would be regarded as acceptance.

I have read all the small print regarding the Sale of Goods Act on the purchase form and none relates to my right as the buyer in this situation. Do I have a cooling off period if they refuse to repair the defect and demand my money back?

Thanks Read more

My B-I-L has bought my Saxo from me. Him and his family live in Abu Dhabi but his wife will be over for 2 months in June due to the extreme heat over there at this time.

His plan is to get insurance, pay it monthly and then cancel it after the couple of months and then just leave the car in his driveway untaxed (will SORN it) and uninsured until they next come over.

This sounds a sensible idea to me, but will he be able to do this every time or will ins companies ask questions re him cancelling the insurance the first time? Read more

Utterly ridiculous proposed laws, I hope they stay as merely proposals.

I intend to retain my Mondeo when I buy my 5 Series - it'll come in handy from time to time or when the BMW is off the road having broken down or when, in 18 months time, I finally accept that 530's and studentness is plain daft. When not used it'll be kept in my locked garage 1 mile from the nearest public road, but for hassle-free sake I intend to keep it taxed and not declare it SORN.

This way I can simply purchase short term insurance as and when I need it.

This new law will royally screw this up.

Travelling 2 days ago on a motorway, towing folding caravan. Car seemed to be acting oddly. About 15/20miles further on, car started skidding and snaking - we thought we had a blowout. Got out car, the entire wheel had come off the caravan - we were staring at the brakedrum!! The tyre was found 200yds behind us, so the caravan had travelled that distance on its brakedrum and base.

2 weeks ago, we'd had a manufacturer's service which included 3 new tyres. Company are now saying we travelled home from them OK (140miles) so the wheel must have been tampered with in our front garden. The police said the holes in the wheel are now elongated, showing that the nuts had never been tightened properly.

Does anyone know how long, mileage wise, it would take for a wheel to come off, if the nuts hadn't been tightened. And also, over the nuts were fitted little plastic red/pink things (can't find anywhere what they are called) but they are supposed to stop the nuts unwinding. Does anyone know what they are called so I can get in touch with the company who makes them.

I need to find out as much as I can as the caravan company are trying to refuse to take responsibility for this. We were lucky, the next person might not be.

Many thanks,

On a recent trip down the M1 we came across someone on the hard shoulder with a yacht on a trailer - and yes the nearside wheel appeared to have come off. Coming back 6 hours later he was still there. The RAC was with him so I could only imagine they were trying to find a wheel from somewhere to get him moved as the trailer wouldn't fit on an RAC pick up truck.

I have a sept 2001 1.2 manual petrol corsa and whilst cruising the car appears to stall for a moment, the rev counter drops right down, then it picks up again, and the service light (car and spanner) comes on. Car runs perfectly otherwise.

I don't think i can flash the fault codes on this car, would thi be correct? So before I take it into vauxhall, has anyone met this problem before and know the likely cause. I have read there is a common problem with the EGR valve on this car? Read more
