I have just bought a Peugeot 206 Diesel 1.4 Engine and need some tech help please?
I was topping up my windowscreen reservoir with just water, after a few seconds all the water (I presume) just drained out and leaked onto the floor, but I could still see blue antifreeze in the reserviour tube??? Not got a clue what it/how this happens any idea's please???

Thanks

Hello Dave, thanks for your response.

There's definitely blue liquid in the bottom of the tube which leads to the reserviour.

I had another look last night and tried to top up the reserviour with water, same thing happened.
I don't know if it's some sort of overfill spill as I filled half the tube half way up and left it for a minute and it still spilled out!!
Am I barking up the wrong tree???

Cheers

I have had front and rear parking sensors fitted by an auto-electrician both front and rear can sense an obstuction or body when switched on without the engine running. The front sensors work when the engine is running but the rear sensors start squarking after about 10 seconds wether any thing is there or not. Sounds like interference from the engine I suppose.
Any advice would be appreciated. Read more

Hi,

Was just wondering what peoples thoughts are, I looking to get either a VW 2.0 Gti or Audi 1.8T Sport. I am looking to spend about £6000.

I am slighty more swayed to the VW as I will get more for my money. I know the Gti isn't that quick but I only want something that has power when needed eg motorways.

Should I get one form a delaer, of just go with FSH from ebay/autotrader?

Any views would be great.

Thanks. Read more

I take it your A3 1.8T was 150BHP model? the difference since I got mine chipped is staggering too. The reason why given to me by the garage is that it's naturally a 180BHP engine and VW detuned it at the time as they wanted the Skoda & Seat to look sportier by comparison. The thing is, it's just a engine management program that is the difference between the two cars as far as I know. That being said, you can still get another 20BHP out of yours by chipping it! Point taken about getting a newer model Leon for the money though.

51 reg silver bog standard focus in front of me today. The driver braked, and I found myself staring at a 3rd brake light that had some kind of stenciling over it such that the red light now spelled "Focus". It was hard to make out, thus rendering the 3rd brake light somewhat useless in terms of additional warning of stopping.

Ouch. 1999 Lexus GS300. Driver's side wheel bearing was extremely noisy and got replaced at Lexus last week. Other side was found to be a little bit noisy, so I thought I would try getting that side done at an independent.

Trouble is, the noise is getting louder every day, and wishing to avoid an arm and a leg at Lexus again, where can I go?

Have looked at HJ list of recommended garages, but I'm in North London/Essex, and the garage I called is extremely busy. My usual independent is booked up solid.

I tried going to a Nationwide autocentre, but they claimed no experience of dealing with such a modern car, and would have to call me back!!! It's a 7 year old car, nothing new...

I need to get this sorted before a long motorway trip on weekend. Any advice welcome.

If no luck today, will have to take back to Lexus then.. Read more

Yes, you are right, this is press fit. The bearing is available separately for just 60 quid.

Managed to get a Lexus independent garage to do the job!

I came home yesterday to find that my indicators had been on all day. Not flashing but lit both sides, front and back.

When the engine starts they go out, switch engine off they come back on. I've pulled the indicator relays (as they were easiest to find) to stop the battery going flat, I hope.

Even with the indicator relays pulled, the green indicator light on the dash is still lit (not flashing).

I'm going to play about with it tonight. I plan to pull the hazard switch and failing that I'm going to try unplugging the Alarm/Central locking control unit in the foot well.

Thanks for the follow up, always good to know the end of the story. There's nothing worse than searching the archive, finding a problem that exactly matches your own, and then reading the thread & realising thre was never a conclusion.

1999 Vectra 2.0 DI with 149,000 on the clock. Still off the road with a fuel problem. Will tick over but wont rev - just goes a little rough when I put my foot on the throttle. Also hard to start if left overnight, runs on 2 or 3 cys and black smokes for 5 mins. then clears and ticks over OK but won't rev. I think it may be the pump. If I fit a second hand unit from the scrap yard, do I need to get the electronics re-programmed? Read more

I'd appreciate some help with a problem I'm having with an automatic, 1.3 1996 Mini Mayfair.

The car starts first time and pulls away OK, however when slowing down when the car is cold it sometimes splutters and then stalls. The car can be restarted OK, however it sometimes stalls a couple of times when pulling away. One warm, everything is fine.

I've recently changed the plugs, HT leads, distributor cap and rotor arm. I've also checked for splits in the vacuum hoses, and didn't find any.

Any ideas?

Thanks,

I changed the coil at the weekend and every time I've used the car it's been fine - whenever SWMBO uses it, it stalls!

Oldman - the comment on the battery is interesting. I replaced the battery when we bought the car 2 years ago, however I've noticed that the last few times I've used it there is a slight hesitation before it starts.

I'll check the battery next.

If all else fails I've got it booked in on 1 June, but I'd love to fix it before then!

Thanks for all the advice.

Stopped at lights in inner London yesterday. Looked to my right, admired the Mercedes CL600. Driver looked to be some "yoof" with baseball cap. Anyway, he was constantly looking at his rear view mirror. I thought he was being vain, when I saw what seemed to be a TV screen at the other end of his mirror. Oh, it was LHD..He was watching some poncy video that included the screen showing "Mercedes..now it's your turn"..

I've never seen that before. How new is it? Read more

Wally Zebon

Why not have the whole "mirror" as an LCD screen. Stick a camera out the back and hey presto.....no need for a rear windscreen!

It should be standard in all those supercars with little or no rear visiblility.

I'm sure any petrol heads going through any major UK airport in the last few years has seen these "win a supercar" competitions. £60 a ticket for the supercar or £25 for the sports car, run by www.bestofthebest.co.uk

Does anyone know of any winners personaly? Or know what the odds are of winning? Read more

Just flown through Manchester airport so put this comp in google, and as of February 2015 I see there are rumours of friends of the company and stooges winning, and even talk of a mistake and the same person winning TWICE.
