Can anyone (Tyrexpert?) recommend a good place to get new tryes for my GF's Ka? They are 165/65R13 T. She's currently got OEM Kleber Viaxers, and has got 30k out of them and is perfectly happy. Black Circles are quoting £70.60 for a pair fitted by a guy coming to the house. Good deal? Could we be doing any better.

We're in Lichfield, so any local recommendations would be appreciated.

Cheers,

Gord. Read more

I couldn't find a better deal than Black Circles, so they are outside fitting a pair of Kleber Viaxers, same as came OEM on the car, as I type.

They seem like nice guys, immaculate van, and they are happy to fit the new tyres on the rear and swap the rears to the front. So far, I'm happy.

Has anyone seen one of these?

It's a crossing (with no lights)for pedestrians and cyclists

The irony is - the tiger crossing is probably unique in Europe, and has no force in law.

Totally agree with lgv about Aylesbury - about 4 miles from me but I never go there.

What about another Peugeot, a 307?

They don't seem to have a very good reputation for reliability. What about a Focus?

With oil at an all time high, how about some alternative automotive power? There must be a few backroomers who have Hamsters?

Can anyone help please?

I have just had my ECU rebuilt and have now put it back in the engine. However, my car still does not start using the blue key. Do I need to use the master 'brown' key to reprogramme it in some way?

Any help appreciated. Read more

My Astra estate SRi -1992 has metallic paint in dark grey/black, this has devoloped circular patches of 'non-reflection' highlighted at the edges (whitish circles)on the bonnet. Its as though the 'varnish' has been rubbed away.

What causes this and how can be cured?

those old astras with metallic paint did this with most of them whether they were metallic red or even silver,if you scratch the paint you will find that it is not affixed to the base coat primer and therefore the lacquer used to fall of in sheets

We all know this happens and its called inertia marketing but just renewed the car insurance and it went as follows.

Last year the best quote was from a broker but the actual insurance was with a company we will call say SLAXA.

Renewal quote from broker with SLAXA for substantial increase.

Get best quote from another broker. Now I know I could have called broker one and they would have matched this price (particularly with regard to the following) but I refuse to do this as I regard inertia marketing as despicable and very poor customer service.

So take up offer with new broker and my insurance company is now... SLAXA.

Having worked in Insurance for a number of years an insurer will typically have a myriad of separate rating methodologies and commission/overrider schemes with a variety of introducers.

Typically larger connections eg large branded retailers or large affinity groups will extract the best terms and conditions. The company I worked for offered better terms to some affinity groups (eg large unions) than it did to its own staff. In some cases the insurer is doing less work with some brokers/introducers and may offer a low price purely for the risk carrying and the broker does all the other admin eg policy issue, customer enquiries etc. They may even have delegated authority to handle claims up to a certain limit.

So always shop around and if you can gain advantage of a large group scheme eg via your union or employer staff association or a membership group it can be an excellent way to gain good terms.

I Dont know if iam goiing to make a fool of myself but,

(im sure theres a joke in there somewhere regarding the "just say no" drugs canmpaign they did"

when he looks under the bonnet on the red one why does he sniff the oil filler cap?
its it some sort of way to test the cars reliability in one fell swoop?

anyone who has a volvo will tell him its not the smell of the oil but the cost of the headlight bulbs he should be worried about!

I saw the news item (on the right of HJ's site) about used-car-discount.com. Thinking this would be interesting to have a look at for future reference. Well my initial thoughts are not too impressive, maybe because I only use a dial up connection, but the site is soooooo sloooooooooooooow to load and takes over 2 minutes to load a page.

There must be something wrong that the design of the site makes it necessary for so much information to be loaded - especially the headers.

There also does not seem to be page with a straight list of vehicles available, it is tagged on the bottom of each page as a lot of hyper-links.

From what I have seen so far it will not be at the top of my list of sites to check when I want to change my car. This seems to be a web designers dream site without consideration of what a potential user might want.
