I recently bought an italian made 100 litre 3hp air compressor for occasional spraying , blowing out filters etc.
Since new it has , when stopped manually blown a white oily substance out of the tank outlet...ie. where the pipe from left cylinder enters the reciever tank.
I then started to notice when draining the tank there was a lot of the same milky oily substance coming out!
The oil level is also dropping considerably....yet when the level in the sight glass is maybe half full I get no spitting out or oily air.
I dont think there is an oil/air seperater on my model....
Is it feasible that the oil level indicator in the sight glass is incorrect........I guess it can happen.
Any suggestions /advice most welcome.
btw, compressor is italian made v twin, direct drive! Read more
This may sound a dumb question but are catalytic converters fitted on diesels? Do they still cost a packet to replace? Read more
Mine have no preference at all. Merely insist on warm bonnets. Will sleep on either.

Just spotted an advert from a dealer in Luxembourg who says he will have a Bugatti Veyron in stock in October. No price though.
I can supply a phone number for anyone interested... Read more
A Bugatti Veyron was sold last week for £1.1m at one of the world’s most expensive car auctions. Well-to-do guests at the Dream Auction at the Albert Hall in London were asked to dig deep into their pockets in aid of the NSPCC, the children’s charity.
The buyer is understood to be Bob Manoukian, who with a family fortune of £300m is joint 192nd in The Sunday Times Rich List and is a former agent for Prince Jefri, brother of the Sultan of Brunei.
Jeremy Clarkson was cheerleader in chief for the Bugatti auction, describing it as “the best car ever made”. Bids began at £800,000, the book value of the car, and the hammer came down within 90 seconds, making it the fastest sale of the night. At least £413,000 from the sale price went to the NSPCC.
Other lots included a VIP trip to the 2008 Olympics in Beijing. Among the faces at last Tuesday’s event were Uma Thurman, Jerry Hall and Sir Michael Caine. The auction raised £5.3m for the NSPCC. There are still hundreds of lots to bid for including an Aston Martin driving experience at www.dreamauctionfullstop.com
My VW Van T3 (1987 make) made recently a metallic squeaky noise in connection with a 'klong-klong' sound. This happened especially when turning right. But what puzzled me most was that one moment the brake pedal could be fully pushed without any resistance (and little breaking action), but would come back on normally after a couple of meters drive. Not sure what could be wrong, I cancelled my trip and returned carefully back home.
Any thoughts what might be wrong?
Also: any reliable suggestions where to get this problem repaired in the West London area?
Many thanks in advance,
Noku

I have an S reg estate that has wet carpets at the drivers feet. I cannot find where it is getting in, I have resealed the underside of the floorpan in the area. Has anyone else had this problem and were you able to fix it please ?? Read more
To all of you who replied to my query on wet Mondoe drivers carpet. Sorry I have taken some time to reply to you all but yesterday was the first day of heavy rain here in Somerset!!
It seems to be OK now but what a job. I even took the wing off to see where it was coming in. There has been a replacement wing fitted before I had the car and it seemed to be coming in from somewhere inboard of the inner reinforcement below the bonnet hinge. It is all welded so can't see exactly. Looking under the dash I removed the ECU and immobiliser boxes to find a 1.5" irregular shaped cutout in the structure where it was actually coming in so I covered this with aluminium shim & silicone sealant. OK, I havn't cured the problem as that was tied up with the wing repair but at least I have stopped it coming inside.
Thanks again to all of you. Best wishes, Vinnie.
I am really starting to believe this, and am just too worried about changing my mk3 golf TDI..
It's as tough as old boots, and still looks much better than new cars these days (looks wise).
Everytime I go and post things like " thinking of buying a mk5 golf, or mk4 or a new audi a3" people tell me not to bother..
Don't do it they say, you'll regret it.
Regret it?? On a car worth on average 15k???!!
So here I am, putting off the purchase of a new car. I've got my old R reg golf, No air con, no ABS, no sat nav, in act not very much but the essential: a good strong engine.

I could lend you a couple of foxes if you like. Now got the two "parents" and 5 little bouncy cubs - they disposed of a wood pigeon the other day, a couple of pheasants should be no problem.
Why would you want to "do" anything about a couple of pheasants though, apart from the fact that they would make a very tasty meal? Do you report sparrows?

IIRC, it's generally Vauxhall and VW that have *problems* with the
iso connectors.
As well as Sony! I just don't understand why these companies have switched the wires round like this. If it's a set standard then stick to it!

Iam buying a car which was first registered in ireland december 2001 but when i ran an hpi check it says it was registerd in England in april 2002, how can i find any previos records for this car? Is this a safe car or a common occurance.
Ashok,
The Opel you're looking at must have been supplied from the Republic (GM persist in selling their cars as Vauxhaul in the UK and Opel in all other European markets).
The discrepancy between the registration dates of (to use your examples) 9th December for first registration and 16th December for registration to the current owner may have arisen because the car would have been registered in Ireland on the day of sale. The buyer would have to import it to the UK on its Irish plate, then re-register it with the DVLA.
If this is the case, he should have the receipt for purchase of the car, the original registration document and a third document declaring that the car has been exported from Ireland. All three are issued by the Department of the Environment and, in all three cases, the Department should also have a record of them.
angelaclairetwins, was the car you are asking about first registered in NI or the Republic? If the latter, there are three possibilities:
1) It was a demonstratator (unlikely with a December plate, new models come out early in the year)
2) It was pre-registered by the dealer at the year's end and sold at a discount (was it sitting on a forecourt until April, or used as a loan car?)
3) It was bought as nearly-new by the last owner who imported it into the UK.
As in Ashok's case, the registration documents from Ireland should be available and there is no legitimate reason that I can think of why there should be discrepancies between these and the DVLA's records.
Apologies if this has been asked before but he goes anyway.
I am Fully Comp insured on my motor (unfortunately er indoors has commandeered it on a near permanent basis!), a mate has offered to lend me his van for a few months, the van is insured 3rd party for himself only (ie no other named drivers etc), would I be legal to drive this van, under my insurance 3rd party only?
Does that make sense?, hopefully you will understand what I am getting at.
(Oh and further apologies for the spelling)
Cheers

Depending on your age a 3 month policy to cover you fully comp on the van might be a lot less than you expect.
Happy ending to this tale....saw the guy at the same place yesterday, told me to return "presser" whichI duly did.
Recieved brand new machine in box complete with safety cert from SIP in Leicester....working perfect!
