Tiger Crossing - Doc
Has anyone seen one of these?

It's a crossing (with no lights)for pedestrians and cyclists

I dont see the point. Cyclist round here use ordinary zebra crossings anyway.

Looks like the funding is in place, but the crossings are not.

Aylesbury sees itself as a pioneering council and has volunteered to pilot congestion charging (£1.34 a mile quoted at peak hours);
introduce speed limits on A-roads in surrounding villages of 20 and 30 mph (probably require Acts of Parliament);
is doubling the cost of residents parking permits because income from parking fines is too low ( I kid you not!);
and spend a fortune on an expensive automated signage system to guide motorists to increasingly scarce parking areas.

A shocking waste of public money.
I could go on.
Removing free parking for councillors and council officials would inject a dose of reality.

Complete waste of money and absolutely typical.

Who is in power in Aylesbury? Vote them out.

I shall continue to avoid the place. But then, I've been doing that for 30 years on journeys to Glos, because Aylesbury has always been a pain in the driver's seat.

Under current law a pedestrian crossing is just that.It requires a cyclist to dismount(not that any do) and wheel his bike across.

Precisely: there is a law governing cyclists' use of existing crossings, but they ignore it (just as many of them seem to do with most highway laws) and anyway the law is not enforced.

So an ill advised functionary in central government provides funds for ill advised functionaries in local government to implement new devices that will not only also be ignored but which add a further source of distraction and confusion for all road users -- pedestrians, cyclists, motorists, horse riders, the lot. And I'll put my money on the laws governing these new devices also not being enforced.

The culture of highway safety management in this country has gone plain silly and is reproducing its silliness at every next development -- a classic positive-feedback loop. The driving force seems to be a tiny minority of non-motoring pressure groups coupled with politicians surfing the safety wave. Not to worry, they're only spending my money and your money -- to no effect or to bad effect.

Makes you laugh really....................

From Monday to Friday of every week half of all space in the biggest multi storey car park in Aylesbury centre is reserved to give free parking for many hundreds of council employees. This alone makes it difficult to take any claims from that council about reducing congestion/improving the roads at all seriously!

The irony is - the tiger crossing is probably unique in Europe, and has no force in law.

Totally agree with lgv about Aylesbury - about 4 miles from me but I never go there.
