Just been listening to the Radio 4 program on Rover plant closure.

One year on 50% have other work and 25% on training courses.

Some have transformed their lives for the better, others doing lesser jobs for less money.

But all in all not bad.

Excellent series and presented by that Brummie who does Working Lunch. Seems to know his stuff.

Does anyone know when this will be in the showrooms?
And if they're going to offer an automatic?

Hello,

Yesterday we went for a test drive in a Picasso 1.6HDi 110BHP at the local dealer. I loved it. Engine was easily strong enough (3up + baby) and very quiet for a diesel. Nice to drive, boot is massive, lots of cubby holes. Job done I thought, except after 30mins my wife said her back ached a bit. Damn. We'll test drive another to be sure but, alas, I need to consider Picasso like alternatives that offer as much new car as possible for the cash. Other than old shape Zafira's (Not a fan of them at all) I am a bit stumped. We want the MPV shape btw - that is the only criteria and I'd like a diesel.

Any suggestions most welcome. thanks as usual

Hello reevsie,

A very helpful reply from PeterPerfect from another thread!

Excellent condition:
£5900
Average condition:
£5300
Below average condition:
£4620

I got £5500 according to the sales voucher, but this is a bit academic really. Its cost to change which reveals how good or bad the deal was. Try and use the same source for trade-in values of your car and alleged retail value of the new car.

Having checked autotrader it seems that pre-facelift Leon Cupra prices are all over the place from £5500 (115k miles private sale) to £8500 (47k main dealer).

Question Micra Brakes
Doc

Nissan Micra 2001

The car has a "long" pedal, but stops as normal.
There is no loss of fluid and the linings are good.
There does not seem to be air in the system on pumping.

I am thinking master cylinder. Any other thoughts?

you will probably find the rear conpensator valve is seized it will need carefully freeing off.
Easier to do on a ramp/pit as you dont want the back of the car in the air as you do it.
Do not pull the adjuster too far down or the piston will pop out and it will then be scrap, very carefull oiling and twiddling usually sorts it,cover it in grease when done.
While you have your head up there have a look at the floorpan above the fuel tank, nissan didnt put any paint up there other than primer so now would be a good time to waxoil it before it gets terminal rot, also the front crossmember as they rot inside out especially nearside front where all the panels meet.

........ i've just finished washing my car.

I can't believe it, it's just doen it again.

step back to admire work, oh, oh some drops I've missed, chamois, chamois, looks OK. Oh hang on, some more drops I've missed, chamois, chamois - no wait, I've done that area already, it's not an area I've missed, it's started to $%^&***$£: rain again, the $%£^&&%%$$£ *****rd.
Every week for the last six chuffing weeks.

The weather forecast don't help me plan, the barometer takes the mickey, the cows rise & fall to take the P, and the starling fly upside down to send me mixed messages.

Please tell me that it isn't just me that this happens to.

Chrysler don?t always hit the mark however, I?ve just designed a
spread on the new Sebring and appearance wise it?s a dog.
Nothing nice about it whatsoever.

If the Dodge Challenger ever happens it'll be quite ahem "discreet" on the roads !

VW Passat 2002 TDI Sport Poor locks

Anywone who owns a VW Passat had any issues with their locking system? I have owned two passats no problem with the previous one but with this, I have had it broken into on two occasions now in just 6 months. The car has a very poor locking system according to the Police this will be the same for Golf's Boras etc. Has anyone out there experienced breakins on their vehicles where by the thief puts a screw driver in the drivers door lock a quick turn and down come all the windows. Is there a better locking system one can get or should I change my car?

every vw i buy seems to have had one or other door skins repaired after a break in,i know there is a piece about the sharon? on the window thing but, any car has a weak spot and its unfair to single out vw on this really in my opinion.

dox"s solution sounds good and rear locks should be plentiful in scrappies, maybe a marketing idea here for someone?

What we?ve got here huh ? Ah, that?s easy...
A humble, reasonably priced eurobox: current-shape silver Vectra hatch 1.8 / 140 horse, facelifted model year 2006.
So... this car (the Vectra) has got something really, really unique ? something that no other car of its class on the market currently has got. What is it ?
Hint: it?s oval, but I?m not thinking about the fuel cap here ;)

I was wondering if anyone out there can help me identify an issue with my wife's Bora.

Sometimes when the doors are locked using the remote the indicators don't flash as normal. The doors seem to lock ok, and the interior/puddle lights all work fine.

Has anyone encountered this before and know what the fix is before I take it to the dealer to get them to check it.

I do recall somewhere in the handbook saying that if the indicators don't flash then the alarm isn't active.

Thanks,

Neil. Read more

Forum New Evo IX

Hi

Just bought a new Mitsubishi Evolution IX 06 reg - the car has however been in the UK for nearly 12 months (the alarm was fitted in the UK on 1 June 2005). I guess the car has just been sat around for that time - should I be concerned? I have raised with the dealer and he says its covered by 3 year warranty so dont worry.

Sorry? Are you saying Evo's hang around unsold for 12 months?
