Is it paranoia on my part or do you hear alot of complaints about rattles in Toyotas and Lexusesii.
SWMBOs Corolla has more rattles than my baby daughters toy box (53 plate). HJ reported a perpetual rattle in the long term Avensis and I notice the CBCB for new IS200 has reports of rattles from the front. I was reading an old car mag recently and the RX300 test driver complained of rattles.
Does anyone else hear about this or is it me ? Read more

Perfection

Yep, the RAV4 (from 2000 onwards) aka the Rattlers.
dashbaord ticking, rear door rattles, rear removable seats rattles.

Hopefully an easy one for forum members. I have recently been removing my wheels to clean and remove built up brake dust on my alloys, however, when I use the tools supplied by Vauxhall, I have to stand on the tool to undo/remove the road wheels and having looked at the wheel nuts, I have noticed that I am starting to round off the tops.

Can any member on this forum advise me on,what tools I require?

I currently own and use a trolley jack, I have a torque wrench (need help with what socket size I need for the wheel nuts).

I was looking at purchasing a 4 way wheel nut wrench.

Thank you for any advice you can give.

Yup I carry the extending one as well, 1/2inch drive & comes with double ended 17/19mm socket. Easier to carry than a spider.

>>
Me too except mine came with two double ended sockets 17/19 & 21/23.

They do vary in price quite a lot.

If I use it when no torque wrench is available then I tighten the nuts with it in the non extended mode.

Well, I finally bought my Y-reg Yaris and I love it except for one thing - the 'lights on' buzzer doesn't work and I'm really forgetful! I bought it a week ago but I have only just realised that this is a problem because I've only been out and about in the daytime until now...

Do you think that this would be a simple thing to fix? I had a deleted inspection beforehand too - not impressed...

Please say its a simple thing to sort!

Allie

{The inspection companies name has been removed from this thread as you are making an allegation against them. Whether that allegation is true or not, I have no idea, but to prevent possible naming and shaming it's been removed nevertheless - DD} Read more

It really annoys me when they try and worm their way out of it. As you say, at least it wasn't something serious but that's not the point. If it was me, I'd send a letter of complaint but then forget about it.

Actually, if it were me, I'd rant and moan about sending a letter but 10 minutes later I'd forget all about it and not bother!

Just think yourself lucky you don't need to deal with a Ford dealer in a town very close to me!

Southampton to Goole tonight, leaving 15:45 , heading M3 A34 A43 M1 M18. Where are the major holdups likely to be ? I assume things will have quietened down by the time I get to Notts / S Yorks.
Normally I do this run on a Saturday morning and it takes just over four hours. Is it worth taking an hour out at the worst time to feed the family? Read more

Statistical outlier

There's no simple to describe diversion around that part either. In particular, it's very questionable if going round the side coming up to the M30 on the A34 stretch is worth it - I'm never convinced.

Has anybody every tried reporting a smoky vehicle?
I've emailed enquiries@vosa.gov.uk 3 times over the past year reporting an apallingly smoky school bus. I often see it around, and nothing has ever been done about it. It leaves a smoke screen behind it everytime it pulls away or accelerates, and is the worst ever vehicle to be stuck behind in traffic.
What is the point of this scheme? Read more

On the way to work this morning I was coming towards a 20mph zone, although not actually in it.It was a "School Zone".It was 6:30am and it showed 20 Slow Down, think my speed was around 30mph at the time.I didn't think these limits were in operation at this time.Is this just a "warning".Incidentally I think this is a good idea just a bit concerned that I've been "done" at a time I would class to be outside of the "busy period" i.e children going to school, lunch etc Read more

Baskerville

The school up the road from me opens at 7am and closes at 7pm. It takes kids from 2 years to 11. It offers breakfast, lunch, and dinner. People are coming and going all day. And yes, the school zone signs operate from 6.30am.

Unusual Autos

Looking to buy Vw van for family days out and for my regular trips to B+Q!
Been looking at these Vw t4 transporter vans offered by the AA at auctions, they seem very clean and tidy but are they any good?
Had a T4 before i gather these have 102bhp and rear air assisted suspension etc
Anyone got one or run one ?

Vansboy

The few AA vehicles we've sold were no better maintained, than any other fleet.

You do need to consider though, the van WILL have been worked to maximum weight capacity, at all times, plus a good deal of towing, too.

Arguably, the towing won't be too weighty, or for great distances.

Beware the bad paintwork repairs, when body damage is more apparent, once the livery is removed - it's VERRRRY hard to match AAA yaellow!

As for the VW segment on their fleet, I do remember them only having minimal trials with the Transporter & placed a rather large order, more or less as soon as the first few were in service.

Seems they were happy with them.

I take it you don't like the Kaiser Chiefs then? : )

When I lock my 406 Coupe using the remote, the nearside indicators sometimes stay lit (without flashing) until I unplug the battery. I understand that a quick fix is to bypass the electronics that make the indicators flash when the car is locked. Would someone be able to advise me on how to do this?

My Coupe is a 99 2.0 D8 model (i've not had much luck on peugeot406coupe.com with this one)

Many thanks in advance Read more
