I have just been reeading in Car magazine that the next Bugatti is going to be an Elise rival costing circa £35K.
Should be interesting.
Ought to be interesting. May not though.
Don't forget they aren't Bugattis.
If they're not Bugattis, then what are they? Doh!
As with all VAG cars they will no doubt share the same platforms and so are basically VW's, Skoda, SEAT, or Audi - although it does say there will be some bespoke Bugatti items.
If VW let Bugatti build a Lotus Elise rival where does that leave Lamborghini? Sandwiched between Bugatti from above and below! Also impinging on Audi territory too.
I agree - the way VAG mixes it Brands always confuses me.
Does anyone actually understand it and could they explain it on here. I know alot of people suggest buy a Skoda instead of a VW or Audi etc and I am not in that camp (I'm not camp at all actually) but I do wonder what they are trying to achieve.
BMW for instance is pretty straight forward.
In my opinion any 'bespoke Bugatti items' would have to come from the factory at Molsheim before World War Two.
Or may be the Bugatti items will be the watch and the cufflinks...
Let's face it, it's just cynical marketing of a famous name and treating potential buyers as if they have no brains makes old codgers like me very sad.
If VAG want to build a car to take on the Elise why don't they just build one that's better than the opposition so people will buy it on its own merits?
Absolutely mh. Just what I meant.
Potential buyers of 'Bugattis' do have no brains. Sad but true.

That's right, the Veryon is basically a rebadged Passat with nicer switchgear and pedals. By using lighter electric window motors they saved most of the weight that accounts for the performance. The fuel pump is taken from a Lupo too.
Ho ho. But the engine is a blown version of the one in 'Bentley' and Phaeton, isn't it? The Veyron is obviously a very caqpable, very impressive product, a bit too impressive for most people to feel comfortable with it as a day-to-day jalopy.
But it isn't a Bugatti.
Apart from the Type 41 Royale, weren't all Bugattis sports cars? The Veyron is no sports car, nor is it a luxury saloon.
No, the Veyron is just a fast VW with fancy kit and a borrowed name.
Mind you, what does that make the Bentley? OK it's built in Crewe, but it has a lot of similarlity to a Phaeton.

Espada III - well if you have a family and need a Lamborghini, what else do you drive?

The Veyron engine is not (yet?) in a Bentley. The Bentley has a 6 litre twin turbo W12 engine. The Veyron on the other hand has an 8 litre quad turbo W16 engine. Of course Bentley have considered using the Veyron engine but I could not quote my source on that - but I was at Bentley in Crewe at the time, near the Mulliner special works building :-)
Sorry to harp on about this rtj70, but Bugatti isn't Bugatti and Bentley (sadly) isn't Bentley.
It's all cynical VAG badge engineering, but maybe you aren't old enough to know - or care...
And Aston isn't an Aston and neither is Volvo a Volvo or Jaguar a Jaguar. They are all Fords.... And the Mini and Rolls-Royce are both BMW.
But then the original Bugatti company hadn't been successful since Ettore died in 1947 and the company was bought in 1963 - they then made airplane parts. The company called Bugatti Automobili SpA (they made the EB110) was itself - like the latest VAG incarnation - a company that had only bought the rights to a name.
Of course the Bentley company was sold to Rolls-Royce in 1931 and then the whole lot to VAG in 1998 - but without a license for the RR name. But if you visit the Crewe works on the right morning you can still see the old "Blower" being driven around every week. I know I was surprised when I had to wait for it to pass to cross over to the other building.
But that doesn't mean the Veyron is not a good car. The Bentley Continental GT of course is a Phaeton ;-)
And I must confess to having forgotten the Veyron's mouthwatering number of cylinders.
Can't help imagining how incredibly busy the bottom end must be at any speed. How many main bearings does the engine have, and how many conrod big ends on each journal? four is it? poetry in amazingly complex and forceful motion.
The Veyron may be a bit absurd but it's got a motor a world war 2 fighter would have been proud of, give VW its due.
I find it amazing a car with 1000bhp+ can stay on the ground. The Veyron has ended up a truly remarkable piece of engineering. Whilst Ferdinand Piech announced what the car would be like (including looks), it's then taken a total re-engineer of many major parts to implement it.
Quite remarkable... I'd like to be in one sometime but I think I'd find myself short of about £400k if we sold the house :-) Not that the better half would agree.
P.S. Because of differing engineering tolerances, fuel grades, effects due to air temp and altitude, the car was engineered to produce closer to 1100bhp! And there are rumours of a more powerful one to come.
>>And there are rumours of a more powerful one to come<<.
Do you think they will offer it on the low deposit VW solutions package ?
>>And Aston isn't an Aston and neither is Volvo a Volvo or Jaguar a Jaguar. They are all Fords.... And the Mini and Rolls-Royce are both BMW.<<
This is an interesting point - WRT the UK market is there a single pedigree car maker out there or do we now live in a world of mutts where by the cars are made up of a combination of a larger bits bin i.e. Seat Leon, VW Golf, Audi A3, Skoda Octavia.
The only ones I can think of are Suzuki, Honda and Hyundai.
I don't think they major parts or platform share with any other brands in the UK.
Suzuki platform shares with Fiat and Hyundai with Kia.
