OK, I know there has been a lot of discussion about Rovers etc.
My father has been offered a Rover 75 diesel with 15 miles on the clock for £6K - A local (to him) trader has apparently got a batch of them coming in. Sales are going to be to the first people with the cash.
Sounds too good to be true ? What should he look at / for ?
I understand they were registered last year and have just been released by the administrators. Read more
Citroen are hard-selling these at the moment, and as a by-product of this sales drive got my hands on one for a couple of hours yesterday evening.
In often crawling Friday evening pre-bank holiday London traffic it behaved impeccably and was easy to drive and position. A 1.6 HDI110 example, it went extremely well once on the move with terrific acceleration. This example also had huge wheels with low-profile tyres, so felt very firm for a Citroen, but lolloped over speed bumps with beatifully quiet 1,700 miles old suspension.
I wd have liked to get it on the road, but couldn't, although a bit of urban motorway enabled me to fiddle with the characteristically-surging cruise control.
It must be terrible if all those pretty lcd screens go out though. And the central rearview mirror encroached strangely on the view through the screen. And there was a bit of roughness or vibration in initial clutch bite. Lovely motor though, as it ought to be for a posted 16.5k. Read more

Hi,
I've recently bought my girlfriend a N reg fiesta 1.1. Basically, it came without a red key. I would like to program another key to use with the car, but is this possible to do without the red master key?
If so, can i buy and program a new red key?
thanks in advance

a decent key shop can clone you another black key with chip (about £40 or less) but to get a red key you really need the dealer and its about £100+
Just been reading a web site about cctv and privacy. I read of one guy who has an issue with ANPR. He's a van driver and above his number plate, which is mounted on the door, he has an additional black on yellow plate which reads "H4M PER" and below the number plate, again in black on yellow, "ANPR"
Would it hamper ANPR? And is this illegal? Read more
It would sound an alarm unless it links to the car's proper plate first. Mind you the boys in blue might think he's raking the proverbial.
G,day all
Knowledgeable advice and comments sought please.
When the side lights (and headlights)are turned on and have been on for some minutes, the illuminated main lights on/off switch together with the heater fan rotary switch gradually become quite warm: some may say hot. All is functioning correctly and as intended.
Is this anything to worry about?
Does anything need to be done?
Yours views welcomed

I spent a frustrating evening on thursday, westbound on the A57 from the A1 to Sheffield, where some lowlife has spray-painted the signs on the roundabouts west of the M1, obliterating all mention of the Sheffield or A57. Nowhere nearby to stop and check the map, or to turn after having done so, so all I could do complete circuits of the roundabouts to guess the correct exit. Not legal, not fun, but best of a bad set of options :(
Then, to add the fun, here was a diversion, the signs for which abandoned me at another roundabout (they are big on roundabouts in thse parts), leading to a half hour of guessing my way around backroads with the help of my inadequate road atlas.
Finally made it to my destination, and then got lost three times at 11pm trying to get out of Sheffield.
So I decided that it's satnav time, and after reading the reviews and having taken advice here, it'll have to be a TomTom ONE.
I got mine for £219 from PC World, but if you don't mind waiting a few days for delivery you can order them online this weekend for £204 from The Link (with free delivery): see www.find-uk-deals.co.uk/sat_nav.htm. (Note that when you enter the discount code, it isn't enough to press enter - you need to click the update button for it to register the £15 discount)
I spent an hour last night testing it out around the edges of town, and my initial reaction is that it is a brilliant gadget.
Usefully slimmer than a TomTom ONE, it doesn't seem to be missing any features I need, and it was up and running within four minutes of walking out the door of the shop. The only downside so far is that it is yet another piece of kit to carry around with me :( Read more

Thank you all for your advice, i think your right, i'm gonna pass on it and keep looking for a mondeo tdci zetec-s like i wanted, just finding it hard work to find one in my area!.
My car is due to reach its third anniversary soon and therefore due to have its first MOT. Few questions therefore that I would like to ask:
1. MOT's can be booked 28 days before they expire. Can I also book the car 28 days before its third anniversary?
2. In people's personal experience, are the nationwide garages like KwikFit ok for MOT tests?
3. Any tips for when I take the car in? e.g. I was told in the past that it is a good idea to warm the engine up properly so that the CAT can work better.
4. I also have some blue sidelights, foglights and main lights that I DIY installed. When I say blue, I mean that they look blue but their light is a bit whiter than the yellow OEM bulbs. Now do they look at things like that in an MOT (i.e. do I have to replace with the OEM bulbs before the MOT)?
Thanks. Read more
Personally, would steer clear of the nationwide chains - a mechanic friend of mine worked for one for a very short while. On his first day, his manager handed him a can of WD40 & told him to spray the shock absorbers of cars in for MOT so they could tell the owners the shocks were leaking.
I woudl either go with testing stations that have been recommended or with the local council depots.
It must a fortune for the likes of VW, BMW etc to re-engineer their cars for RHD markets so just what is involved and what do you think is added onto the price?
How many parts needs a redesign just for RHD? Read more

Hi all, i hope one of you can help me with this problem.
I have a fiat ducato motorhome 1990 2litre petrol.
I went to take it out tonight put in in reverse, pulled back a couple of yards, applied the brakes and the pedal went straight to the floor with no resitance.
Brake fluid was low but not low enough to have sucked in air. No visible/obvious leaks. When i press the brake pedal with the engine off, i can hear a sort of CHUFF as the pedal goes down. I dont know if thats normal or not. Assuming there are no leaks ( i'll have a proper look in the morning )could it be the master cylinder seals inverted? How can i check without taking it apart? is there a way to test it?
Any thoughts you have would be more than welcome.
Thanks for taking the time to read this

>>This can occur without rear seal leaking,
What I meant, was Master cylinder seals can go as I stated without fluid getting into servo.
best way to check it out is remove M/C from Servo and check it has no leak at rear ie point of entry to Servo,it cannot be seen untill you do,a point mentioned about replacing fluid.
thats pointless untill you find reason for failure, and not going to correct the problem,so a waste of time IMO

Murphy,
I usually get howled down as a Rover knocker and you are right there are posts after posts on THIS board saying parts are freely available but do a quick look around the net and there are dozens of stories on other sites about Rovers being off the road for a few weeks because there is a run on part X.
As I say £6k is a pull your arm off price for a car to run for 5 years and then scrap.
But if you want to sell a year down the line who will buy?
TVM is on with the bet although I should point out I an in Asia until the end of June but will be happy for him to buy me the comestibles late June early July.
Getting exciting this.
