Hello all does anybody know if the Lucas cav injection pump has a cold start device and if so where is it the haynes manual is pitifully useless unless you have a bosch device
I have the usual trouble here, first start after an overnight ends in the engine stopping after about 5 seconds you can do this about 5 or 6 times until it will run cleanly unless you give it a bit of gas and keep it there until its running in which case it fine .
I have replaced the glow plugs and the filter housing incase we had an air leak and the battery is new i am now convinced it is a failed cold start on the pump incedently the dam thing starts first time every time after this palarva and pulls like a good un

I'm considering buying a second hand Nissan Micra, the only thing that is currently causing me concern is the amount of miles the vehicle has done.
Ir's an R registered car (1998?) and has clocked up 83000 miles, is this more than a reasonable amount? Should I look for a car that has done fewer miles or, since this one seems to be okay, go with this one? Read more
If the price is right and the car has been properly serviced, then go for it.
Micras are very reliable.
However, they are thousands on the market so you can afford to take your time choosing.
I've got an 95 620 SDI that's been slowly hemmoraging it's oil over my drive since I've had it. Finally got round to fixing it, seems to be coming from the two chunky hoses connected to the same mounting as the oil filter. Unfortunatly, said mounting appears to made out of cheese as whilst undoing the nuts (with only a mild amount of force) the mounting has split in two different places. In one case, a raised thread has sheared off, leaving little or no thread left.
I'm attempting to patch it up best I can with JB Weld, but to be honest, I'm not holding my breath... Is this mounting easily replaced? I can't really see what else it's attached to as there's precious little space. I don't really want to start striping it all down to find out that it's part of something bigger...
Thanks for any help Read more
Strange. I replyed once already, but it didn't show up...
Thanks for the replys guys.
I found an extra section hidden away in some Workshop Manuals I have. Turns out it's the oil pump. (At least I think so, the diagrams are awful. I'll put up a piccy if I get chance). The procedure detailed to replace it reads like a world of hurt; requiring the removal of the timing belt and timing gear just for starters. Don't really feel it's something I'd attempt.
As for the JB Weld (steel epoxy), well I must say I'm as skeptical as you, but supposedly it's ideal for patching engine blocks, sumps etc. Just for once, it would be nice if something did what it said on the tin, it would save me a major headache!

This isn't quite as radical as it sounds. In cities, you end to find that pedestrian traffic is so heavy on many crossings that vehicles have to wait anyway.
Nottingham is trying all kinds of things, the most radical being the reintroduction of the tram, the most invasive (from a car viewpoint) being bus lanes. Coity centre retailers aren't a fan of it - they point out that since most shoppers are car-borne all this is doing is making life tougher for the city's own businesses.
BTW, the filling in of subways applies to one island loathed by pedestrians for dimly-lit subways populated by drunks and beggars.
All that said, yet another example of the conscious or unconscious anti-car bias that exists within traffic authorites.
The steering on my L reg Rover 214 Si has become extremely light.
There is plenty of fluid. Would appreciate any information.
Is this a problem? Is the car OK to drive?
Thanks Read more
Steering Rack failure, for sure. There is a torque 'ring' inside and it would appear that has broken.
Recon rack time!

hi friend has n vectra 1.8 i but only one key.
do keys have to be supplied by vx dealer and coded to car by them or is it something that can be done like ford by turning
key a certain amount of times
any help appricated thanks richard. Read more
Hello,
I purhcased a 99 Vectra just over a year ago - it came with a single remote key and rather than finding myself without it I went to the local dealer for a spare. I had the option of a 'remote' key (about £80 I think) or just the 'chipped' key (just over £50 I believe).
Annoyingly a few weeks after that the spare key turned up in the post from the garage I bought the car from - so I now have two spares... oh well, better safe than sorry I suppose!
Kind regards,
Cyrill666
Fuel consumption as dropped over the last week down to around 32/34 mpg. - no ECU codes have come up

I saw an article last month in a car mag (one of the not so well known ones) whilst visiting WHSmith. I cannot remember the car mag title but it did have a story about one of their long-term-test Rover 75's (Diesel I think)suffering a total engine seizure after a coolant leak.
Not too surpringly Rover replace the engine immediately but they would not comment on what caused the coolant loss.
So beware. If I were you I would put my complaint in writing to Rover UK; or the next thing that will happen is that you will have an engine failure due to coolant loss and Rover will blame you for not having topped up the coolant properly!!! Or worse still the dealer will blag it that the coolant loss you complained of had no bearing on the engine seizure!!
Help.... Fuel guage stopped working on MK3 VW Golf...
Was working fine yesterday. Changed front brake pads, brake servo hose and coolant leak. Guage read 1/4 tank before fixing these things, now reads zero......
Wiring from fuel sender to guage seems OK (reads 400 ohms). Fuel sender seems to be open circuit...
Do people reckon the sensor just died at a very coincident time, or am I missing something here?

is temp gauge ok? ther is a small earth lead which runs to the rocker cover from the coil pack area this can sometimes cause problems with dash binnicle. depending on age of car would probobly say sender stuck or pcb on sender dead. go to breakers though as they are very expensive from vag.
Some interesting and untold history. Knowing, and having worked in Korea and with Koreans I have little doubt these guys will do what they say. Interesting they've appointed a gaijin to head up their export drive and PR: the Koreans' greatest problem is English, or lack of it. I know, I have a nephew there right now earning ££££/hr teaching it.

"Kia-The Car That Cares" as the TV commercial has it.
Anything that can go for years as a Manila taxi must be fairly well nailed together. Certainly no stigma attached to them here and they've been around as long as I can remember. The sedans look a bit weird and I would say Kia's strengths are definitely in the van/small SUV market. Dealer back-up is widespread and as you say the price is right.
Have been offered a clean 50,000 mile Mazda 626 2.0 Lxi. It has climate control, sunroof etc and is a nice clean car with 45000 miles. Worth £3450 or is it a bad car? Thanks Read more
Well done Dodo. That is nearer the price and only 50000 on the clock. I hope you enjoy your 626. I think you will be pleased, especially with its reliability. What colour is it? You will be gratified by the complete absence of this model from the technical threads!
Well it does sound like the fast-idle speed control isn't jacking the idle speed up at all/enough.
I'm not conversant with this system but if you could post a close up pic of the pump I might be able to point you in the right direction....
