Hello.
I have had a 1.6 petrol Ford Focus since September (brand new).
I find the fuel consumption fairly heavy on this car: It's just reached 5000 miles and it's still only returning just under 30 mpg at best.
It's got Leather heated seats and Air con etc: But even if it's driven gently with all of the electric gooodies switched off, it's still quite thirsty!
Does anyone have similar experiences with this engine?

I had put off having a 6" dent repaired on my Citroen because the quotes I got from the dent remover companies including Dentwizard and Dentmaster were about £100 + VAT. I thought my garage body shop would cost much more and keep the car off the road for days, so I did not even ask them.
When my local Citroen garage had the car in for service they asked if they could get Dentmaster in to repair it. The cost was only £45 and the car was returned from service only an hour later than otherwise. The makers guarantee is unaffected.
This got rid of my predjudices about my garage body shop once and for all, and I will see them first in future.
Results - I am the only one who can see where the dent was, and only because I know! Read more
according to local radio ads here there's a branch of that fast fit place who reckon they're quick that has a dent repair operation in one of their Edinburgh branches. I'll refrain from further comment... :)
Hi,
I wonder if anyone of you saw the recent article in the AUTOCAR (last week I think), where they tested a number of tyre brands (Michellin, Pirelli, Goodyear, Continental) on a Mondeo and a BMW M3, under a variety of conditions.
On this particular test, Pirellis and Dunlops were much better compared to Michellins on the Mondeo, and on the Beemer other brands were no match to the Pirellis.
I might be wrong here, but the common consensus on the most suitable tyre for the Mondeo on this forum appears to be Michellins and Continental on the Beemer.
What are your experiences

Doh, that's why I'm confused.
Hi,
I'm getting a Volvo dealer to convert a standard V70 Estate to have 2 additional seats in the back. There seems to be some confusion as to whether it should have a key lock added to the tailgate for use in emergency when the central locking isn't working etc.
Basically Volvo say it should, and a lock barrel should be ordered that matches the main key.
The Dealer is arguing against this as unnecessary.
Does anyone have a new series V70 estate with 7 seats? Does it have a lock on the tailgate?
cheers

I'm looking at buying a 2003 v70 R AWD estate. All appear to be 5 seaters. If you do not mind me asking, how much did it cost to have the extra seats fitted? Also, did you match the interior seats to you others or does it come in one colour/style?
Thanks
Perry

Engine Cutting out completely, about once a month.
Won't restart for 2 - 10 minutes.
Never happens at speed (less than 30mph)Normally 10-15 minutes into a journey but sometimes later.
Been in Garage and 'plugged in' 3 times, no results. Nothing stored in ECU fault logs. Car runs perfectly but for these cut outs.
Vague hunch from mechanic of Distributor? (red cap, 3 pin)
NO OTHER PROBLEMS except this.
(Started after visit to garage to re-align gears and new bush fitted to bottom of gear leaver)
Please Please help, it does it in the middle of roundabout's and junctions. You never know when! Not good for blood pressure.

Hi guys,
I am the \"proud\" owner of a vauxhall Corsa 1.2 SXi (the actual car pictured here - www.funkymonkey.plus.com/cars
Now basically, before I actually got the car, I purchased a newer battery for my Nova (the car I had before getting the corsa as the Nova had gone kapput). The battery is identical, vauxhall, but is slighlty more powerful. Now rather than have this battery sit in my garage unused, I would like to put it in the corsa, replacing the battery which has done 10k .
And my point? Well, that is the same spiel I have had to give to every vauxhall salesperson who wanted to know \"why\" I wanted to take the battery out. No one seems to know (and Mr. Haynes has not published a manual for this mark of Corsa yet) how to take the battery out - there is a plastic sill at the bottom of the windscreen which just covers the battery compartment, and is therefore preventing the battery from being removed.
The batttery is located in the tray located behind the bulkhead and directly under the windscreen along with the wiper motor assmbley.
Are there any corsa owners, or anyone in the know, who can tell me how to get the battery out? I suspect it has something to do with this plastic sill but I cant see how to take it off. I have tried but I dont want to risk snapping it! (Plastic!)
Any help, info and advice would be much appreciated :)
Thanks a lot guys :) Read more
Funny thing is ive got a 2005 tigra and they have done it again!!
Xantia 1.9 TD 1995 92000m
NB. Same Xantia as in Smokey start thread.
I'm pretty sure I've got a leak somewhere in the fuel lines, when the engine is cold is runs rough for 5-10 seconds before smoothing out. After that its fine. Filters, oil etc & glow plugs are fine (brand new Beru), theres no major smoking though if you rev it while its having its coughing fit it will puff white smoke but not a great deal.
The priming bulb is always soft, if I pump it repeatedly I can hear hissing sounds like a puncture in a bike wheel. I've narrowed the sound down to somewhere very near the injection pump, either the pump, the pipes going in and out of the pump or the injector behind it (Bosch pump). The primer will go soft in seconds.
What I don't get is surely I should see diesel leaking out as I pump, but it sounds like air leaking.
Would this leak (assuming it is a leak) affect mpg, also would it affect performance (I cling to the hope my Xantia is off-colour rather than just plain slow :p )
Confused (nothing new)

The chugging gets worse in cold weather. The last couple of
days its been no more than a slight hesitation.
If it is worse in cold weather could still be a glowplug problem. Wiring OK, all connections fuly re tightened?. Is the control unit at fault leading to a too short period of heat (as above, including after start. Or giving an over voltage and burning out the new plugs :-(.
Anyone know of a way of removing scratches from windscreens or a nationwide company that can do it?

Much discussion has been had on this subject. The long and the short of it is: no. A new screen is your only option.
I'll be wanting to leave a car at or near Stanstead Airport.
Anyone know a nice secluded housing estate or other suitable parking within a taxi ride for a weeks trip?

Seriously,X30 bus goes to Stansted(No "A") and Southend airports calling at Rayleigh and Chelmsford on the way-both have stations as do both airports.
I've now done over 60k in my 2.5 litre 1997 R-reg Vectra. It now has a Vauxhall main dealer warranty (Hartwell's "Assist") . At the 60k service the dealer said the Cam Belt should be changed. However the handbook I got with the car when I bought it new states cambelt change at 80k. The service inspection sheet given to me after the 60k service also states in print that the Cam Belt change is required at 80k. I declined to have it changed but they still stamped my service record book.
Question is... "Would this invalidate the warranty should the cam belt go before it reaches 80k?".
I don't think the garage knew it was under warranty so they didn't comment.(The car has always been covered, since I bought it new, by various kinds of Vauxhall or Hartwells warrantee.)
Thanks, Richard Read more
Yes,I can see it now.. Beetling along in the fast lane of the motorway in the lashing rain then BANG off goes the belt at 60k miles, BANG goes the car following you into the back of you and the one behind him.....
Is it worth it?
Sorry
Andrew
My 1.8 (Mk2) Mondeo only returns around 27-28mpg even when driven gently.
I had a 54 plate 1.8 mondeo estate over 10,000 miles it averaged 34 was used every week day with a mixture of heavy city traffic and on congested motorways.
