Saw my first C2, and my first BMW 5 Series on the roads today......
The '5' was quite nice, although rather over-designed - the sort of 'themed' style that will soon look dated.
As for the C2 - Yikes, cover the childrens eyes!
Admittedly it was in a pale lime green with black plastic bumbers but omigod that is one ugly puppy!

On the subject of fuel consumption, I normally use Shell products either Optimax or unleaded and on balance I get 45 MPG. for the last two weeks I have been using petrol from a local supermarket and driving in the same conditions the MPG was only 41.

hi folks,
minor problem with the offside door mirror, suspect mechanism must of been frozen (we had our first frost of the year the other night, just after i\'d washed the car)when i tried to operate the mirrors, the nearside one opened o.k, but the offside on just juddered and clicked. i\'ve opened it by hand, but it just judders and clicks when i try to close it. i suspect that it must have jumped some teeth on on the mechanism, but how do i put it right again?
thanks in anticipation,
billy.

billy25, I've edited in the car's details into the subject header as you previously failed to mention them. Hopefully someone will be along shortly to help you.

I've received an email from a 'friend of a friend' that says that the specs system (Passive camera speed detection) has been installed on the M4 from Theale to Membury services.
Anyone else heard of this?
I'm doubtful as I would have thought there would have been more
publicity.

Dear All,
I own a '92 J reg 1.6 BMW. Over the last few days there has been a very strong smell of petrol inside the car, there appear to be no obvious leaks.
Has anyone had a car of this type and age with a problem of this type and if so what was the solution, 'cos we're scratching our heads a bit - Thanks for any helpful comments,
John Read more
hi jvb,
i had this problem last year,on my old triumph pi.found the fault was a pin-hole on one of the injector lines under the bonnet, didn't leak with engine off, but sprayed a very fine mist into engine compartment when engine running.this was being picked up by the heater air intake and being blown into the cabin. may not be your problem, but something else to check.

Does anyone know how to disconnect the airbag on a Fiat Punto Sporting MK2. I need to replace a broken indicator unit and do not want the airbag to go off in the process. I understand that there is a set Fiat procedure. Can anyone help!!. Read more
Procede with caution on this one. I would really recommend only a dealer to do this job but here's some general advice:
To disable the airbag disconnect the battery earth lead for at least 15 minutes to allow the power stored in the control unit to dissipate, before disturbing anything. When handling an airbag unit always hold it away from you.

Rose Taupe Morris Minor in 1963 - that wasn't one of those limited edition "Minor Millions" was it? They were a sort of lilacy colour I think. Didn't they roll the millionth Minor off the line about that time?
I see from my local paper\'s Motoring Section (Oxford Times 24th October 2003) that Vauxhall have officially announced the launch of a rebadged version of the Aussie Holden Monaro...a V8 coupe version of the Holden Commodore.
The Australian original was launched at a motorshow in 1999 or thereabouts as a concept car and won such accolades that it was in production in 2001 for the Australian market.
Details: V8 5.7l engine, RWD, 3 doors.
Makes the Omega look rather stuffy!

HJ points out that the Monaro coupe, the station wagon and the doublecab ute are all in car by car breakdown on this site. Read more
Unleaded is between 85 and 95 cents in Perth, WA depending on which petrol station you go to and what stage in the fuel price cycle it currently is. Gets higher in country sites the further you get from the city. Still beats UK prices though.
We see quite a few Monaros out here. Good looking car and much in demand.
we need a timing belt and cam belt spec on this van .can you help? Read more
Aren't there two belts? One for the pump, the other for the camshaft?
Spec, what kind of spec?

won't start - Got someone to test the battery, they said it had no charge, it wasn't getting a charge and and alternator wasn't working - went and got new alternator from shop.
Fitted alternator into place
connected up wiring
put battery on charge
this morning put battery into place connected up battery and got sparks at the terminal removed connections but not in time for smoke to appear.
I have obviously done something wrong in connecting up the alternator.
The points that the wires connect up to the alternator were in different places to the old (original) alternator - i presume this is because of it not being an oem part
i looked at some of the wiring that was attatched to the alternator and it appears that some of the plastic surrounding the wiring has melted.
i have clearly messed up - is there anything i can do to resolve this or am i going to have to get it to a garage? Read more
Rather than an "ordinary" garage I suggest you try to find a specialist Auto-Electrician. Look in Y Pages under "Car Electrics" - you may even find someone mobile to save you having to have the car removed to a workshop.

Whatever is rightly done, however humble, is noble.
Yes you are quite right. Consider a given throttle opening which normally gives you 30mph. If air is denser than normal, then the engine management system will increase the fuel supply. This will cause your engine to develop more power and your car to go faster. If you wish to drive at 30 mph you will reduce the throttle opening and reduce both air and fuel supplies as a result.
Overall this theoretically should return you to the same mpg figures.
