In the last year I have noticed a lot of these posts have sprung up in my area (Nothrth East). They are posts about 5 ft tall with a panel about 10" square and facing upwards at 45 degrees mounted on top. The panel looks like a solar panel to me. Out of interest can anyone tell me what they are. Read more
Hi,
Does anyone know where the breather pipes are on a Ford Fiesta Zetec ( T reg)? Read more
pug306xldt,
As this question relates to an earlier one posted by you, I moved it to that thread to avoid repetition.

I have been running my July 1999 Jaguar S-type 3 litre SE auto since Nov 2001, averaging under 5000 miles p.a. Most mileage is local urban driving but about once a month I have a journey in excess of 50 miles. I then find at steady speeds of 40 mph and above that the engine appears to hesitate or misfire when I begin to accelerate. After about 100 miles or so the misfiring becomes less and eventually stops. The fuel used is Esso 95 regular.
Is my problem due to the urban driving causing a 'coking up' or does it indicate a more serious problem? Read more
Try some of the fuel additives recommended by others on this group.
It seems the best way to save your car is to drive it more. Find relatives in far away places to visit and once a week when the engine is hot, get close to the red line.

Hi
anyone know what this might be? I have just noticed a noise which appears to me to be power steering related. It only happens after car has warmed up but whilst stationary I get a high pitched whining noise, if I turn the wheel to any degree (either direction) it disappears for a just a second and then resumes. If the wheels are dead ahead whilst stationary it also does it. It doesn't appear whilst driving or at least I haven't noticed it!! Fiesta is T Reg Zetec (no air con)

A whining noise sounds like the belt could be too tight. Try giving it a dusting with talcum powder and see if the noise stops for a short while.
I have a 97 on a R 2.0DL Vectra,whose air con probably needs re-gassing,as it isn't working like it should.
2 local specialists have quoted me £80 to have it done.Personally,I think thats a bit steep.I do need to get it done before this weekend as I'm on holiday for 2 weeks.
So the question is:Does anyone know someone within 10 miles of Wakefield, who could do it,and who isn't related to Dick Turpin?
Names and phone numbers would be most useful.
Cheers. Read more
If it's empty of gas, then you have a leak. So £80 may be the least of your problems. Usual leak areas on Vectras are hoses and compressor front seal.
Hope you have luck getting it done before the weekend, and the whole world and his wife have waited till the hottest week of the year to decide their a/c isn't working.
Hi,
I was just wondering if anyone on this board has had dealings with the Great Trade Centre, and if so, what your experience was like.
I'll be grateful for all comments, positive or otherwise.

The GTC are fine BUT they don't suit all people.
Nearly all their stock is either "nearly new" ex-rental or pre-registered or ex-lease high(ish) mileage 2 to 3 year old stuff.
The vast majority of the ex-lease models all have full service history and often a print out from the lease company detailing all the work which has been carried out.
The thing is with the GTC is that it is up to you to check the car over thoroughly - they will not hold your hand. You need to make your own judgement on its condition, check the service history, check if it has all the keys etc. Most of their cars are fine but there are some dogs in there.
The upside is that you will find it quite difficult to beat their prices unless you go directly to auction and even then you might not save a significant amount extra. Their margins vary and of course it depends if you add finance, waranty etc. but I've seen a glimps of their computer system which lists the margins. The last car I bought there they had a £500 margin on but some thay make up to £1500.
As far as test drives are concerned they will now give a brief test drive as long as they think you're serious about the car. Initially, you swap your keys for theirs and you can crawl over the car in the compound on your own for as long as you like (an approach I'm very much in favour of).
One bit of advice is to use their website (www.gtccar.co.uk) to narrow down models before you go. Presented with 5000 cars on one lot it's very easy to get sidetracked and go looking for a 1.0 Yaris only to come back with a S430.
Maybe it's because my car is "doing my head in" but I am just interested as to how many people are actually happy about their VW's. My 2001 1.9TDi Passat has gave me nothing but grief since I took ownership of it approx 13 months ago. I have just been told today that it now needs a new Turbo. OK, so it's under Warranty but it has been in and out of the dealership about 13 times in just over a year. I simply wouldn't buy another VW never mind a Passat and can't see why they cost more compared to other makes.It certainly can't be for reliabilty. My list of faults consists of;
New back window (3 elements failed)
New indicator switch (indicators failed)
New alarm sensors
New boot struts
New dashboard (couldn't resolve the "creaking" after 7 attempts)
Now a new Turbo unit.
Not bad for a 17 month old car!!!!. You pays your money........ Read more
I have a Ford Galaxy basically built by VW in Portugal on same production lines as their Sharan, with VW 1.9TDI engine. Bought used at 2 years old. Several rattles that come and go, major failure of several bits of the airconditioning system, fortunately covered by the warranty, some flimsy bits of trim and others that don't fit properly. Trim marks easily. I'm not impressed with the VW quality of this vehicle and doubt that I'd ever buy a VW based on my experiences so far. If only Honda made a good MPV with a diesel engine! My 1985 Honda, owned from new, that I traded in for the Galaxy in May2003 was better built and gave less trouble over 18 years that the VW-built Galaxy has given in 4 months. That must say something for Honda and VW quality!
The hinges on the tailgate of my '98 Rover 200 seem to be developing rust where they are joined to the car.
I seem to remember seeing a thread on this subject before but can not fing it anywhere.
Can anyone direct me to this thread, or give advice on this problem?
Any advice would be appreciated.
Cheers! Read more
I had the same problem on a 95N 214 SEi mk2. I bought the car in 1999 from a Rover main dealer in Bristol (Also the original supplying dealer when the car was sold). The car had full Rover service history and 42k miles on the clock. Rover refused to do the work claiming that the rust had to come from the inside to outside to qualify under the anti perforation warranty!!
I took my car to independent bodyshops, they all told me that even if they fix it it will come back again at some time. I had quotes of £400 inc VAT down to £60 (this place looked like they were doing a good job as they were working on MB's BMW's that were fairly new!
My advice to you is to forget persuing the Rover dealer or Rover, as they don't want to know. Get it fixed as soon as possible. As it will get worse. I found out the hard way as i just put some rust remover on it and then put undercoat on it.It didn't help. As I was ignorant of the problem, I just left it alone. When the time came to sell I had to fill a hole which was 15mm in diameter! so lots of filler and sprayed over the area. Did a good job as the guy who bought the car didn't even notice it :)

i totally understand what you are saying but i own a 406 and in honesty its hasn't been too bad, the clutch feels like its going but thats at 132K
i really have set my heart on it now, surely under warrenty it shouldn't cost me anything problem wise?
Yes that's right, and Isuzu Rodeo. A mate of mine bought one a couple of weeks ago from a dealer in surrey who specialises in US spec left hand drive vehicles. It is a 4x4, and looks just like a Vauxhall Frontera. It must be the same platform , and the result of some kind of joint venture. however, the engine and transmission is not Vauxhall. It has a 3 litre V6. It is about 10 years old (and a bit of a dog).
Mate bought it as he was emigrating to France. It got him to his new home, but the next day the exhaust expired and the clutch gave up. His local french garage says that it is not possible to get parts for the car in Europe, and parts would need to be shipped (at vast expense) from the US. I may be asked to try and get him his money back (under the new consumer regulations) but if that does not happen, does anyone have any bright ideas as to where parts may be had? Read more
They are probably destined to target a new generation of speed cameras!
