Having owned my car from new and expect to change when 4 years old having done 180 000 miles, will I get a better trade in or resale price from having a main dealer service history, or am I just wasting money? Read more

Hi chaps,
I'm need someone who has a Focus Mk2 TDdi with a heated front screen to have a look in their under bonnet fuse box for me please as I need to clarify an ambiguity.
I need you to look & see if your car if fitted with relay K84. For some reason Ford have chosen to label this as R13 in the fuse box lid - it has an engine symbol on it.
If you open the lid of the fuse box then its in the 2nd column from the RH side. The first column has 2 large relays, the 2nd from right has space for 4 smaller relays. I'm looking to see if the 2nd one from the top of the 2nd column is fitted or not.
This is actually called the engine run relay.
Its important that its a TDdi/Endura engine NOT a TDci - and it MUST have a heated front screen.
Thanks in anticipation.

I'm sitting waiting to be made redundant (end of August) so just playing on the internet all day. I can rack up a few dozen hits a day no problem...
Can any one help i have a 01 mondeo tddi which ocasionally miss fires,If you try to hold the revs at a steady 1750 to 1800 RPM you get a surging and if you listen to the exhaust you can hear the occasional miss, and the engine seems to run very roughly at this rpm.My ford dealer says there is nothing he can do but it does spoil what i consider to be a good car.I need a cure!

Does anyone know how to get information as to how the Vehicle Mileage Check offices have reached a mileage discrepency on my car, but will not tell me how?
A second-hand car was bought from a Car Dealer who said he had done a HPI check. The car was bought as it was low mileage but I suspected otherwise: but the MOT\'s showed a low mileage. I have now traced a point, prior to the first MOT when there was a very high mileage noted, but VMC will not disclose where this info comes from. They use Data Protection as a reason not to disclose to anyone other than the Motor Trade. (Data Protection only relates to people not cars!.)
I do not want to fgo the long route of Trading Standards.
I need this exact information so, please, can any one help?
In hope, thanks,

VB - One last point. Please don't think I'm being smug, and I know it's easy to be wise after the event, but why did you buy a car with low mileage that seemed well worn for the miles?
Low mileage cars usually go for a premium that is rarely justified - there is loads of discussion about this - but the consensus here is that you buy first on condition, then on price, and only then on mileage.
Just thought it might be useful to some of you to know that my father\'s 52 plate Mondeo has just been recalled due to a fault with the handbrake assembly. Apparently, in some conditions, the handbrake will just not hold the car, he hasn\'t had any problems yet though.
Also, the car is booked in for the work to be done without any hassle from Ford. Read more
This seems overdue as the recall was June 02
Personally I would always leave a car in gear to be safe
Leesten very carefully, as I shall say zis only once...
Towing a trailer?
Then stay out of the blinking 3rd lane on the motorway - YOU'RE NOT ALLOWED TO USE IT!
I thankyou.

Can someone please tell me why I mind cranes on the motorway less than caravans?
Also, as an aside - if they did classify them as mopeds, I could almost imagine some 16 year old muppet buying one to drive to school... :-)
I bought a Ford Focus at auction in Feb. All seems ok and I'm happy with the car.
Unfortunately there is no record of the radio's security code.
The radio is working fine, but i guess i'll have a problem some time in the future.
It is a factory fitted radio. Can i get the code from a central database somewhere ?
If not, is the problem easier to deal with now while working than it would be after a flat battery ?
Thanks in advance Read more

Hi,
I have a peugeot 306 1.9 xldt the problem I am having is when I don't use the car for 1 day but use it the next day it will only start after several turns of the key, it won't start straight away. But once its started it runs well and starts ok. The battery has plenty of power and doesn't go flat whilst trying to start it.
Please can you tell me what could be wrong?

All of the fuel delivery and return pipes including the leak-off pipes on the fuel injectors.
Replace the fuel filter - it could have a damaged seal (which is integral with the filter btw)
Assuming you've passed the first 15 months/60k of warranty, and you don't have a Skoda with an unlimited mileage warranty, I would find a trusted independent.
IIRC you drive a Passat? A four year old, 180k Passat will not be worth much anyway, except possibly to a clocker who would bin the history. If there is a lot of history, evidence of bills, and so on, it'll probably go for about £3000. Without main dealer history, you could lose £300. However, with between 6 and 12 out of warranty services, you don't need to save much per service to be better off with an independent.
I would just insist that the mechanic has a good reputation, and uses original manufacturer's parts.
