I have just had my 306 serviced but the garage can't reset the service indicator. I wondered whether anyone knows how to correct this easily and cheaply. Thanks in advance. Read more
Have you retried resetting the service indicator after removing the shunt?
Never had a problem with these.....
Could someone please tell me the likely cost of cambelt change on 98 Vauxhall Omega Elite 3.0 (88k miles) in the hands of a local Vauxhall dealer ?
Many thanks in anticipation . . . . Read more
My little man charged me £325.49 for cambelt and a full service (except oil, thanks Kwik Fit) about 18 months ago on an Omega MV6.

The problem with most manufacturers seems to be that they only allow about 2 to 3 years before redesigning their models.
Does this mean that all of us poor consumers who have the countless faults that occur are mere guinea pigs?
No! When the Manufacturers find they have the faults, they bang out the new facelift and redesigned models and allow all of the faulty cars to run their course with the disgruntled owners.
These owners are usually the unfortunates that have the pleasure of owning ex-fleet cars that have had NO TLC at all.
Take one fleet driver, add inherent manufacturer faults plus quite a few thousand miles and hey presto!!!

There are lot of late reg MK1 Vectras around, they were good value for money in the last 12 months and according this site were not as bad as painted (why am i defending them ?!)
There has been much discussion on this forum over recent weeks of road rage and inconsiderate drivers, I was wondering how many members of the B.R. are actually members of the I.A.M., and whether they feel their membership has improved their driving techniques and anticipation of potential accidents and bad driving by other road users.???? KB,
I will ask some questions of older members - in the meantime - thinking of MILLSTONES - I remembered a task my wife gave me which I had forgotten - Thanks.

Has any one tried a Hyundai Getz ? The base model car gets a good review in what car, and it now comes with 5 year warranty, 3 years three servicing and 3 years RAC cover, all for £6995, before haggle. Guess you could get a few hundred £'s off that.
It looks OK, not a bread van by any means, and has the basic kit.. often missing from most budget cars from Ford and Vauxhall..
including...
PAS, Steering height adjust, central locking, Dual airbags, ABS with EBD, electric windows, CD player and split fold rear seats.
Compared to a base 1.0 corsa or VW lupo, this appears to be a bargain. And if anything goes wrong it appears covered.
Could this be a good buy?

There is a great TV ad for the Getz, involving kung-fu fights, motorbikes, FBI etc. It was filmed about a block from my office, and was obviously for the international market as well as for SA. Is it flighted in Britain?
I've read some of the stuff on here re "simmering" turbocharged engines. I presume it also applies to the HDi. As the performance of the engine oil is involved, can anyone recommend an oil that is less likely to cause problems in the HDi - for example, a low-viscocity synthetic? And what about such products as Slick, which supposedly coats bearing surfaces with teflon or whatever which cannot be removed except by grinding? Does this help? Read more
Follow the oil change advice in the current BMW thread, I personally use Total Quartz 9000 (£20 ish for 5 litres) and genuine filters.
With regards the simmering, try and keep the revs low for the last mile or so, and you won't need to idle the engine for longer than it takes to remove your seatbelt, pick up the mobile and find the crooklock.
If you have just stopped at a motorway service station, a full minute or two idling the engine will allow the turbo bearings to cool enough.
Some people recommend oil additives, but I think the majority say that replacing quality oil at 5 to 6,000 miles think that is sufficient.
Fuel additives are recommended, see HJ's FAQ.
On my 3rd Citroen. Saxo, Xsara, C5.
I've said this many times here but I'm going to remind everyone to drive responsibly and safely. I'm not alone here in having a child with special needs and quite serious medical problems. Out of the blue, my little lad nearly left us on Monday and it once again brought home just how special he is and how much we would miss him if anything were to happen to him.
We can't control fate but whatever the reason for it, when you're driving aggressively, carelessly or just plain dangerously you're putting lives at risk, friends, family and/or strangers. Imagine how devastated you'd be if your child was the victim of a speeding motorist late for a business meeting and then take a look at your speed on the way to your next appointment. Drivers usually make choices which cause accidents. Some people have no choice in the matter and their fate is in the hands of others. Think on everyone. Drive safely, love your families/children and be considerate to others at all times. Read more
Lets try to keep to motoring so that I don't have to go and make myself all unpopular, please.
aahh! we just found out today that the mondeo we bought a year ago from a dealer (large second-hand car chain) was clocked before we bought it. It was sold to us as only having 8k on the clock (original May01 Y reg) but we have just found out the odometer should have read 25k !
We have yet to find any original documentation with the (incorrect) reading so I have called the first (and only previous) owner - a hire car company - if they have any record of mileage when they sold it.
Thinking back - it seems a bit strange that we didn\'t get any log books with the car - the dealer told us there wasn\'t one and that it hadn\'t been serviced because it was brand new. We were lulled into a false sense of security because we thought we were dealing with a reputable dealer.
We haven\'t approached the dealer yet as I suspect they were the ones to clock it - I doubt the hire car company would do it would they ?
Anyone have ideas as to what we can do ? Read more
Just caught this thread. A similar thing happened to me quite a few years back. I bought a 2nd hand Honda from a very reputable localish garage (in fact they have a bit of a snobby air about 'em). After realising that i had made a mistake in my choice of model i traded it in after three months for a Prelude at another garage in the same town. The salesman there must have had a photographic memory because when looking at the car he immediately recognised it and KNEW that the mileage wasn't right. After a bit of digging he produced a work sheet, from their workshop, detailing the fact that this car had had a new odometer fitted at 16,000 miles!
Thing was....this fact was noted in the service log and i hadn't spotted it (it was handwritten though and took some deciphering)
To cut a long story short, the snobby garage initially ignored me, trading standards did 'em for not putting stickers on their odometers and i eventually got a £500 'shut up'.

Easy. It won't be the turbocharger seals at fault.
