Need an 8 seater 18 Apr 2008 (Forum)
I'm looking to buy an 8 seater now that my old galaxy is dying so that I will finally be able to fit all my family into one car. I have up to £8,000 to spend max, and would really like something to last me as long as possible. It will probably end up doing a lot of motorway miles unfortunately. I have heard that I should avoid an estima from a few people who've owned them and have had the head gasket go. -
Honda Civic UK (2006 - ) - 06 1.8 EX - How to soften the ride? 8 Jan 2008 (Forum)
Obviously I could change the wheels to something like a 15", what effect would this have on handling, etc? would it soften the ride to make it worthwhile? I'm no Max Hardcore, and never really have been. Should I just pop down to Halfords and see what's on offer, and get some wheels until my wife is ready for the original wheels again? thanks for all replies & suggestions -
Volkswagen Passat (1988 - 1997) - 1997 'R' 1.9tdi 115BHP boost issue 30 Dec 2007 (Forum)
The current issue: The car starts fine and runs okay.........but it appears to have little to no 'boost', further more, when the car hits about 3000rpm you here a click and she drops into limp home mode (max speed 45/50 mph) The garage had replaced the N75 valve, I'm going to check it is piped up correctly for him first, but I'm not too sure that is the issue..........does anyone have any thoughts...the garage seems to think the waste gate is stuck....hummmmmmm Regards Hayden Murray -

3% Cash Back From Shell 22 Jun 2007 (Forum)
---------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------- Not read thriough all the info yet, but just had long awaited literature from Citi, who will be operating the Shell Credit Card from July. Briefly... 3% cashback on Shell fuel purchases (max £5000 per year) so not as good as it might be for business use, but fair for ordinarry customers. 1% on other purchases extended warranty on DOMESTIC appliances - not sure if it's just washing machines etc, or tv's & cameras, sat nav & stuff) price drop refund - if what you buy gets cheaper, for short period after purchase. -
Suggestions for 'sports' car? 10 May 2007 (Forum)
At first I thought about a Honda S2000, but a quick look at Autotrader showed only a few imports from Japan and 2000 registered models (I'd prefer the new car to be 4 years old max.) Never been keen on BMW's, a Lotus Elise and MX-5 are too small, so I'm struggling really. Does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks in advance for any thoughts. S6 1SW -
Refuelling mishap Pug307 - advice sought 19 Jan 2007 (Forum)
He was thinking of keeping the car for some time, so should he have any concerns? Reading the recent thread about the c-max would suggest this could be the case. Mods- wasnt sure if should link this to this thread http://www.honestjohn.co.uk/forum/post/index.htm?f=4&t=48165. If not hijacking it please move over if appropriate. -

drove 15 miles with oil cap off !!! help 14 Jun 2006 (Forum)
It seemed like oil was everywhere. Left it a few hours and topped it back up again right to the top of the 'max' level on the dipstick, drove home with no apparent ill effects. I have tried to wipe off as much oil as I can. Anyone got any sensible advice for a numpty ?? Will the engine be ok, should I get the engine bay steam cleaned?? -
Query - auto wipers on Mazda 23 Feb 2006 (Forum)
Hi, I have a query with my auto wipers in my Mazda6, I find that the wipers will often sweep once when the ignition is first put on even when dry. Is this normal? Also, even with max sensitivity I find the wipers leave it too late and I have to make a manual sweep, clicking the auto back on gives a few more wipes and then it can "stall" again. Sometimes it does wipe enough. I did have my windscreen replaced a few months ago and made sure it was an OEM screen (part numbers matched up). -
Ticking noise from 406 HDI 9 Jan 2006 (Forum)
It's going in for a cam(timing) belt change shortly, would it be worth getting a replacement crankshaft pully for the mechanic to fit while he is doing the other belt? Thanks Max -
1999 Polo ABS Light 31 Oct 2005 (Forum)
I did notice that the garage didn't re-check the brake fluid level and when they squeezed the calipers to put in the new pads they left the level in the reservoir way above max and I had to syringe some out. (Not sure if this is relevant). Also, when the ABS light stayed on a bit longer after the brakes were first changed she commented there was a burning smell. No burning smell since and the brakes do work fine. -
Best price performance reliability??? 13 Sep 2005 (Forum)
So I am looking to replace the worthy, reliable but dull Primera and was wondering what to get. It will be on private lease and I am looking at an absolute max of £400 a month. It must perform but also carry the family in comfort (three boys who will all be teens by the time the lease 2 or 3 years runs out). I had sort of half looked at a Scooby or Evo 8 but maybe those are flights of fancy. -
Cheap, reliable new diesel car 16 Mar 2005 (Forum)
Good fuel economy and reasonably priced main dealer servicing is important and it will quite likely be used to tow a ligh trailer at some stage. Tricky bit is the money, an absolute max of £15k but ideally something around £13-£14k would be easier to swallow. -
mondeo mk3 tddi high fuel consumption 2 Mar 2005 (Forum)
i have just purchased a 2001 mondeo tddi 2.0l zetec(60,000miles) and am getting really bad fuel consumption, ie, 26 mpg around town, this has been consistant for 4 weeks and i have been driving like a sunday driver (im not a boy racer) the garage have done a diognostic test which did not show any engine faults, but the oil level was 1/2l above max, the mechanic said this could be the problem so he drained it out, also the air flow sensor was unplugged (i noticed this about three weeks ago) so i plugged it back in but there was no noticable difference to the engine running when i did so, have i bought a pig in a sack??? -
Laguna II Brakes 27 Nov 2004 (Forum)
I have recently had new front brake disks and pads allround fitted to my 53 plate laguna 1.9dci, as the pads warped after 40k and less than 50% max wear. (Renault UK wouldn't replace them under warranty, but thats a different story...) Anyway, when I drove the car away from the dealers, the brakes just didn't seem to have the bite that they had before. -
928vBMW840vXK8vSL 3 Oct 2004 (Forum)
I'll keep it either for a year for the fun of it or three years. I'm already driving a grp 18 car so the added insurance won't kill me. I'll do 12k pa max, much of it commuting. I need to to put my nippers in the back once or twice a week (both under 10). 928 - I can get an outstanding example but fuel is a bit scary, irresponsible even. But in my eyes a true beauty. -

Cheaper insurance ? 1 Mar 2003 (Forum)
BTW, I live in outer London. Some of you may know that the company offers a 'protected for life' Max. (65%) NCB, the real value of which I was highly suspicious of. However, in the blurb it states that they: - will not reduce the NCB if claims are made, - will not increase premiums as a result of any claims & - will not cancel the policy due to any claims made. -
Car for £350. 28 Dec 2001 (Forum)
Here's one for you that's taxing my brain. Car wanted, max purchase budget £350! Must have some remnants of street cred, diesel or smaller petrol engine, estate or useful hatchback for carrying dog etc, rugged rather than flimsy if possible, not a potential rotbox, owner has very good DIY skills so repairs/maintenance no problem, insurance group not a problem either.
