Hi, I have a query with my auto wipers in my Mazda6, I find that the wipers will often sweep once when the ignition is first put on even when dry. Is this normal?
Also, even with max sensitivity I find the wipers leave it too late and I have to make a manual sweep, clicking the auto back on gives a few more wipes and then it can "stall" again. Sometimes it does wipe enough.
I did have my windscreen replaced a few months ago and made sure it was an OEM screen (part numbers matched up). The sensor looks ok and the auto headlights work 100% no problem. Is it the cold weather or something? Should I take it to RAC Windscreen to be checked before I visit the dealer?
Not found anyone else with my car on other forums (6 Sport 2005).
Cheers,
James

On a Passat I owned the auto wipers had to be re calibrated by a VW dealer after the screen had been replaced. This was done by connecting the car to their computer system. Don't know whether this applies to Mazda but apparently all auto wipe sensors are made by the same company.

Sorry, not Mazda again, but on Peugeot's I've had with auto wipers, they specifically *don't* work when the ignition is switched on, even if they've been left in Auto. You have to turn them off and on again. Rumour has it this is to prevent them operating if frozen to the screen.

Ditto on Citroen C3, and yes you've identified why, last thing you want is to start up and the wipers screech their way across the iced up windscreen.

Afraid not the case with Mazda, it has a thermal cut out if the screen is frozen!
Will check on the calibration thing.

Another piece of technology that answers a question that nobody asked and causes grief and aggravation. A 'latent need' according to marketing wonks....
