406 discs 1 Apr 2003 (Forum)
My friend owns a pug 406glx 2.0 auto and is getting through a set of front discs every 10,000mls. His wife uses the car most and does short journeys but she is a typical woman driver and never brakes hard ( unless in an emergency ). He is getting a little fed up with having to have the front discs changed so often and would like to know if this is a common problem or has he just got a dodgy car. -
Schizo Alternator? 1 Aug 2002 (Forum)
At 2500 RPM the terminals read about 13.5V The tachometer jumps around a lot while driving. Sometimes when I hit the brakes, the radio goes off, but not always. Anyone have a diagnosis? -
FAO Owners of the New Mondeo 29 Apr 2002 (Forum)
As I haven't received any correspondence yet I will be calling in to see him on my way home from work tomorrow and I will post another message once I have more info. The problem is related to the rear brakes and requires a valve to be fitted. -
Lifting the bonnet 13 Mar 2002 (Forum)
I have asked for genuine parts and they have always been honest and said they are just 'pattern' parts. The only problem I have had was with some Golf door handles which only last ~6 months, brake components have always been well known brands. Andrew www.hispecgolfs.co.uk -

Rover 400, appetite for light bulbs 19 Dec 2001 (Forum)
A colleague with the same model (S Reg) has changed bulbs about 6 times. I see these cars running around in twilight with very often, one of the brake lights or side lights not working. Is this typical of this car or am I becoming paranoid ? -
Yesterday's is the price right? 15 Dec 2001 (Forum)
Surely, though it means that the interior will be almost new, bearings and running gear will not be worn, brakes will be okey dokey etc? Or not? What are the main things which might go soon - the whole engine? -
perpetual motion car. 5 Sep 2001 (Forum)
i am working on a car that is driven by perpetual motion, the only problem is that the does a top speed of 37 mph, i cant get the car to go any slower (37 - mph in a 30 zone means alot of speed tickets), i also cant get it to brake (the engine is always doing 37mph), the good thing is that it costs nothing to run the car. the other thing is a car run by air power. what do people think??? -

An Open Letter To Car Drivers 6 Jan 2008 (Forum)
If this is the case, WHY do you then see me in a queue of slow moving traffic and trust me completely to jam on my brakes and stop as you slot into the queue, braking hard on my front bumper? Have I suddenly become a very good driver, who can be depended upon to expect you to do that and be braking accordingly before it happens? -
Vauxhall Astra 1.7 D - Worth Spending Money Servicing ? 6 Nov 2024 (Forum)
Local independent garage ( with good reviews ) say online it’s £270 for a major service. Sister in law said it needs an oil change and has never changed the anti freeze or brake fluid in three years. The levels look ok to me though. I do a 58 mile trip to work each day to work. Shall I get a service or just get the oil changed? Is it worth changing the anti freeze and brake fluid too? -
Vauxhall Combo van 2010 1.7 Z17 DTH - Bought van. First drive. Problem list, help? 22 Dec 2022 (Forum)
After a 6 mile drive: 1) Scuffing noise on starting only (with clutch pedal depressed), sounds like near LHS of engine, same sort of sound as rusty brake drum when brake briefly touched. 2) Chonk chonk chonk sound from NSF wheel area when driving, changes with vehicle speed. 3) Under acceleration there is a rather rough vibration from somewhere (drivetrain?) -
MOT query 29 Feb 2020 (Forum)
Just been looking on the DVLA site at the MOT history of a car a friend is considering, what a dog, just over 5 years old, 57,000 miles, passed 1st, failed 2nd MOT (wipers and bulbs) with advisories (tyres and brakes), failed 3rd MOT on the advisories from 2nd MOT (tyres now illegal and brakes metal to metal). Considering the car is described as one careful owner with a full service history it shows what a joke some independent dealers are and how some owners simply do no maintenance. -
Fiesta Ghia 1.4 Durashift - Strange one - radiator blocked??? 10 Sep 2015 (Forum)
I want to sell the car and whilst it runs fine I can't sell it with a bubbling steaming expansion tank. Any bright ideas, please? On another note, the rear n/side brake bulb does not work. I've had the fitting out, checked everything is fine, which it is, put the bulb in outside the car and it works in the fitting when plugged into the loom, but as soon as I put it all back together it stops working. The other two brake lights work fine. -

BMW 316I SE - Stick or Change 3 Jun 2013 (Forum)
It is due an MOT in March and will require the following work: I think it has a hole in the Exhaust back box, not sure if this is an issue or not, does not appear to create that much noise? Requires the back brake pipes replacing. Cost £200 to replace the front at the last MOT. Advisory on previous MOT Front suspension bushes have had it and need replacement. Hand brake does not hold very well, not sure of cause. -
Hyunndai i10 - My i10 20 Sep 2012 (Forum)
I've had my i10 for 2 1/2 years now and it's been good. The back brakes have an annoying squeak but the dealer says they are aware of the problem, the pad material is too hard apparently. They have been checked on service and the brakes still work well though. -
Honda CR-V - Major problems after used car purchase 7 Apr 2012 (Forum)
I've also found out today that the car is not mot'd. How do I stand legally with this? I'm forking out over £200 today to get my brakes sorted and I intend on recouping this from the dealers. What chance do I have? -
Citroen C5 (2001 - 2008) - 05 2.0HDi Lumpy Idle, Stutter and a few other bits 15 Jan 2011 (Forum)
Are the brakes run from the same pump as the suspension hydraulics on this particular Citroen? Any ideas? Secondly, and these may be related - the idle is occasionally slightly lumpy, nothing huge, just a minor erratic vibration I can feel through the controls. -
FIAT Panda - Fiat Panda 1.1 Review - "faster than a cockroach" 17 May 2010 (Forum)
Driving wise I love the high up driving position and all the switch gear feels very well made. The doors shut with a nice clunk The brakes still need bedding a bit but hopefully they will get sharper with use. The seats are very comfortable and offer a lot of support. There is no squeeks or rattles from the car yet and everything works as it should.
