Happy New Year! At this time of year thoughts turn to summer holidays, and one idea my wife and I have for a few weeks away in the summer, probably early September, is driving the North Coast 500 in our Mini convertible. We’ve seen a few packages offered by various firms, which seem reasonable value, but does anyone have any experience or ideas about the best way to do this trip? Read more

just be aware that the ferry servce to several of the islands has been having serious issues in the last year or so with unreliable vessels. Also, several of the piers are/have been having work done one them.

Which Islands, other than admittedly South Uist, have had really serious problems? Which ports are having work done? ...

Hi All

The menu shows replace foot brakes in 2000 miles I was just wondering how accurate it is. I have a quote from a local garage at £105 and dealer wants £226 lol ... Read more

Probably got at least 4k before they really need replacement. You pays your money and take your choice., good quality pads from an Indy garage shouldn’t be a problem.

My parking bay has a bit of slope as the overall housing development was made by cut and fill. Does parking a car on slightly inclined ground overnight has any long term impact? I hope this should not be an issue, England and the rest of Europe has a lot of areas like that so I believe cars sold here are designed with that consideration. Read more

Owners of automatics were recommended to apply the handbrake before engaging park to avoid stressing the pawl, I believe.

I've stupidly reversed into a large plastic barrel and smashed the nearside light cluster on the rear of my 2019 (69) Vauxhall Combo Life. Bulbs still work, just the smoky plastic casing that's shattered.

I had the timing and aux belt done last year. I took the car in for service just under 12 moths later and the aux belt is perishing and the crankshaft seal is leaking.

Is the seal replaced when the belts are done?

Is it common for the aux belt to fail within 12 months?... Read more

Well the 3 renewals are in. All with DL.

GB - Do you really need (or want!) a i10 or similar courtesy car when you have 3 cars and two drivers?

I don't bother with the courtesy car as we have two cars and two drivers and it wouldn't be a hardship. I also feel with my wife's Panda, a crunched wing and headlamp would write it off and the payout may arrive quicker than the courtesy car....

Need to pick brains on insurance for my grandson who will soon have a Fiesta worth maybe £5k. They’ve been told around £2500 for a 17 year lad with a provisional licence, is this the norm or is there any cheaper way? I fear they may have to bite the bullet. Read more

Hello, last evening the engine check light started flashing and a vibrating noise started (both when driving & when idling). The car was serviced just 12 days ago, arranged through one of the websites where you book online & they find a garage (in this case one I had no prior experience of). Any thoughts on whether to go back to the website & say why wasn’t this problem picked up in the service, or does it sound like a new problem? Thank you for any advice for a non-car-knowledgeable person. Read more

I think you need a good local independent garage to listen to the noise. Should be fairly obvious as the noise/vibration is present when idling.
